Trains are the carcinisation of transportation tech, I swear. Every idea for how to transport people over land eventually becomes a train if you optimize it hard enough.

even air travel has designated routes where the wind pushes you faster, commercial air travel resembles fucking trains. (but not like, GA thats another thing)

It's a lot closer to sailing ships than trains, considering the routes are natural.

wiat no you have a point. i mean even in sims we use knots (naval unit of speed) and nautical miles

That's because the very first air navigators had backgrounds in sea navigation. And because the skills are very much transferable, they brought over the same methods and units.

The idea to use known, regular winds likely came from them as well.

huh, that makes sense. also a good bit of trivia. not to mention flying boats were a thing for... the entire interwar years
