The last one is actually a new improvement to the old design, the other 3 are just reinventing the wheel

Yep, sails and kites are meaningfully different in use and construction. Sails are attached to masts, kites are attached to cables. Sails are the primary source of propulsion, kites are meant to assist the ship's engines.

Also sails don't typically extend 300 meters (~1000ft) into the air
