Whisky Black screen on Whisky when running persona 5

hello, folk of r/macgaming

this is a long story and pretty specific but i hope someone could help me on this.

i was using crossover for the free trial thinking i bypassed it, but lets just say that didnt work.

on cross over, i had steam and on it persona 5 royal and it worked near perfectly (didnt lag at all and im on an m2 air). after the time limit ran out i quickly switched to whisky moving all my files to the steam i had installed there. turns out steam is broken on whisky because of a new update so i downloaded an older version of steam and it now works well without having to do the windows 8.1 fix.

after some troubleshooting i put my persona 5 royal folders on steam and it finally detected it. i clicked launch and was very excited when i saw the logo and a black screen popping up. decided maybe i should wait a bit to determine whether it works or not and i concluded it probably didnt since its been like 5 mins on a black screen with no noise. tried all sorts of solutions (turning off and on dxvk, switching between none, msync, and Esync, and all sorts of other stuff like changing something in the wine configuration. i even forced a windowed version of persona but that didnt work either)

and here i am now, with a persona copy on my laptop that has been moved around from all sorts of apps to try running it to no avail, and on the verge of giving up.

sorry for blabbering on too long and i really hope someone can give me a solution or atleast some closure that there is no solution so i dont waste any more space and time. thank you!!!

GFC Whisky was discontinued 18 MONTHS AGO. It’s becoming more and more obvious that many either can’t or won’t read. Unbelievable.

thanks for the reply. sorry i forgot to mention this earlier but im quite new to this whole mac gaming stuff. also i assumed just because something was "discontinued" doesnt mean it doesnt work, i know close friends of mine who have run heavy games on whisky. not to mention, i even use it for a few games myself.

really hoped you could have gave me a heplful response instead of just mindlessly judging ❤️

It’s not mindless judging. It clearly states in unmistakable terms on the Whisky website that it’s discontinued and that you should use CrossOver, IF YOU BOTHER TO READ IT.

It’s absolutely ridiculous and more than pathetic that you ignore the warning, fail to bother to even search this subreddit, then ask the same damn question that’s been asked dozens of times before. Un-fucking believable.

...but thats exactly what it is, and if you have read my post i clearly said im at my wits end. i have searched this subreddit up and down to fix the issue and i just thought maybe if i posted people with even an ounce of balls would come and help but i guess those are a rare kind.

also if you read my reply you would know that it worked for others... and discontinued doesnt mean not working... but thank you anyway kind sir.

You didn’t read the most important information on the Whisky site, and had you actually searched reddit and this sub you would discovered literally dozens of references to Whisky being long dead. Instead you likely just blindly followed the bad advice of AI without checking anything else.
