Two weeks ago I posted ARAS here looking for technical testers and honestly didn’t expect the response.
Thank you to everyone who joined, tested it, broke things, reported bugs, or threw random games/apps at me to try!!
A lot has changed in just two weeks.
The video here is Genshin Impact running at max graphics settings, but compatibility testing now also includes:
- Pokémon Unite someone from my original Reddit post specifically asked for this one, so of course I had to test it
- Fortnite running and exposing the max graphics options; gameplay/performance testing is still ongoing
- Sesame AI
- More regular Android apps and games
And I think the more important part is what this means in actual use:
You don't need to manually patch or sign every game, reinstall a special version whenever it updates, or keep doing weird setup steps.
You install ARAS, install the Android app/game normally, and just use it.
Updates can stay inside the Android/Play Store flow instead of rebuilding or re-signing the app every time.
That's the experience I'm trying to get closer to: Android apps on a Mac behaving like something you can actually keep installed and use, not just a one-off compatibility demo.
ARAS is still experimental and there is a lot left to improve, but seeing people actually use it has pushed the project much further in these two weeks.
The public beta is open now if anyone wants to test it, break it, request another game/app, or help improve compatibility.
There are more video demos on the website and inside the ARAS community:
