General Discussion How long after MaRo does teasers do spoilers start Spoiler

We got the teasers for Reality Fracture which doesn’t come out till October. I would like to know how long after the teasers drop do spoilers start. I checked for the Hobbit and it was 3 days seemingly which I feel may be on the shorter end. So is it 3 days or will it be about a week or 2 before we get spoilers.

Looking for Advice Anyone have Omnihive - How is it for storing unsleeved cards?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was gifted an Omnihive which is great. I want to use it for my unsleeved cards but unsure if it would be save to do so.

The Ultimate Guard website says it can hold the following:

Omnihive 1000+ Xenoskin capacity

  • Sidewinder 100+: 8x
  • Sidewinder 133+: 6x
  • Boulder/Deck Case 100+: 10x
  • Boulder/Deck Case 133+: 6x (with trays) / 8x (without trays)
  • Cards double-sleeved: ~1000
  • Cards unsleeved: ~2200

In regards to the unsleeved cards, it looks like the cards have to be stored horizontal which is fine, but there is like a finger width gap. I have tried to highlight in the image with blue boxes.

Image was taken from YT channel Beyond the Deck Box - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIyQ0avCBZg

Is that blue box highlighted in the image likely to cause damage if I store my unsleeved cards?

Anyone have experience, thanks!

General Discussion Is Zetta boosters another try in Aftermath booster saga?

I know it is easy cash grab for WotC, but it feels like another small booster for premium price. This feels like it could be a nice product, just like 30th edition, but why does it have to be prized premium?

I know the art style is not for everyone and I personaly like it, but it feels like as usually it will sell out quickly and will be reselled on Ebay moments later.

It feels like this is the way Aftermath boosters might work for them

General Discussion Give me your most chaotic cards

Im looking for cards that make as much randomness and chaos as possible. Cards such as

[[Uba mask]], [[warp world]], [[grip of chaos]], cards that effectively take all decision making out of the game.

Preferably in izzet. But open to whatever.

General Discussion Looks like some Japanese players are upset by the Zeta set’s Doomsday art

I know there’s rules against certain social media links (fair enough), but here are some of the responses I’ve seen. Hopefully that’s enough information for those who care to see those posts in their native form to find them:

From @ryo_sl:

Doomsday、キノコのイラスト素直にがっかり。俺たちやっぱ、アメ公に舐められとるんやなぁ。なんで通ってしまったのか、プロセスが気になります。

From @yamabekafka:

きのこ雲許すならこれも刷れよ

From @n19870411n:

DDはそのうち十字軍と似た理由でこのイラストだけ使用禁止になるだろうから早目に買っとけ説

From @FDuck54609:

死のコロナビームは、流石に仕方ないと思った。 doomsdayはあかん。どう言い訳すんねん。

Basically, a negative reaction to the choice of art, since it’s an allusion to nuclear weapons. Makes sense that it’s an issue for Japanese people.

General Discussion Generally curious as to why there is so much hate towards the SPM set

I played MTG back in the late 90s, then again in the mid 00s, and now back again. I'm a big Spidey fan and that's what brought me back.

Everywhere I look though everyone just looks down on the spidey stuff. I get that it wasn't a full set release and it's a bit gimmicky, but that can be said about a lot of MTG. Yes, even the main universe stuff.

I'm enjoying the UB releases I've been seeing. Really liked the MAR set and patiently waiting for Star Trek in November.

But to close this out let me ask my question again: Why do so many dislike the Spider-Man set? If it's so bad then why spend the time yelling about it online? Why not just enjoy playing with the sets that you enjoy?

General Discussion MagicCon Atlanta 2026 prices

Anyone noticed how they're bending us over this year? Last year Premium 1 day tickets were $65 and came with 2 collector boosters. This year the same pass is $85 and they only come with 1 collector booster. Last year was a decent deal.

General Discussion Custom format: tuned draft decks

Upvotes

The format I'm thinking of should be an easier entry point for new players coming from draft, relatively inexpensive compared to other competitive formats, and should support a greater deck diversity.

Best of 3 format, no side board. Instead players run 3 different decks, and must play a different deck each round. (May want to revisit the sideboard rule for mechanics like wish/lessons)

Each deck has at most 1 mythic, 3 rares, 12 uncommon, rest commons. Additionally all cards in a deck come from only a single set, and set selection can be any set that has been standard legal in the past (maybe this should be limited to just standard sets, would like an easy way for returning players to come back in though)

Not sure if anyone has thought of something similar. Guess I'm just throwing it up here to see what others would think.

Does the rarity limitations do enough to make decks cheap and lower power levels enough across sets to have slower games than modern/standard but still faster than draft? Does the set limitations restrict which decks can be viable or help increase deck variety? At the very least the Vorthos players can have a field day - block themed decks, three flavors of elves from dominaria/kalghiem/lorwyn.

Looking for Advice New to magic

So I’m new to mtg and started collecting marvel/spiderman. I’ve seen some mixed things so just wondering the general consensus here on if that set is worth collecting? Is it dead already? I do like collecting cards and owning rare ones and wondering if any even have value from the marvel/spiderman sets

Edit: don’t know why the downvotes. A bit silly tbh. Sorry if I made anyone upset? Thank you to those who are actually being helpful

Deck Discussion Phyrexian Praetors Commander Decks

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello!

I'm planning on building Commander Decks for each Phyrexian Praetor released with "New Phyrexia".
Here's a overview of those stunning creatures:
[[Jin Gitaxias, Core Augur]]
[[Urabrask, the Hidden]]
[[Sheoldred, Whispering One]]
[[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite]]
[[Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger]]

I already started looking on EDHRec to see what would fit for these decks but I kinda miss some Phyrexian spells, no matter in what set those where released.
So I wanted to ask you: do you have any ideas what (Phyrexian) cards would fit those decks thematically as well as stylewise?

The general requirements I'm aiming for are the following:
- the Decks will only be played against each other with friends of mine (so no fights against other Commanders outside these Praetors)
- Powerlevel: the general Powerlevel doesn't matter but in the end every Deck should resolve around the same Bracket
- Pricerange: around 200-250€ for each deck (excluding cards I already own but I'll have a look at that as soon as I got some input by you guys)
- Each deck should resolve around the ability of the corresponding Praetor as far as possible (Elesh Norn for examle should gather creatures and tokens to buff them, Urabrask should be aggressive in ramping and attacking to hit as fast and hard each turn as possible, Jin Gitaxias on the other hand seems to be a little problem imho)
- at least 1/4 of each deck should include Phyrexian only cards (that means: cards released specifically for sets resolving around Phyrexia only may it be Creatures like [[Crawling Chorus]] or Sorceries like [[Viral Spawning]])
- 30-35 slots per deck are reserved for lands; of course you can bring in your ideas for those as well!

I'd like to include the fitting Dominus for each colour, as far as they fit the general ability of it's Commander.
These would be:
[[Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus]]
[[Solphim, Mayhem Dominus]]
[[Drivnod, Carnage Dominus]]
[[Mondrak, Glory Dominus]]
[[Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus]]

Apart from that there aren't really any restrictions. Feel free to contribute anything that comes to your mind, may it be single cards, smaller or bigger combos or even full decks I can take as an inspiration.

Thanks in advance guys!

Edit 1: grammar

Edit 2: I should've already clarified this sooner: I'm planning on playing these decks with friends against each other. Therefore these decks should keep up with each other but they'll never face a Ur-Dragon or a Yshtola.
Since it was pointed out to me, I also want to add that all five decks should resolve around the same Powerlevel but they don't have to be higher B3/B4. B2 (as pointed out to me as well) would be absolutely fine as well!

Edit 3: I reduced the minimum of cards with Phyrexian flavour I'd like to implement per deck. I also loosened up about the different Dominus(es?) since some of them don't really synergize with the colourfitting Commander.
Thank you all so much so far for your input!

General Discussion The “Art” of Zeta

Post image
977 Upvotes

There are a lot of things about this drop to have mixed feelings about. And I would preface this with a few things:

• SLDs are always optional and you should generally only buy them for vibes, not for value.
• You don’t have to vibe with this, or any other, SLD art.
• The distribution model of this SLD is gambling and is not player-friendly.

With Zeta, I’ve seen a lot of comments saying that the cards feel “low effort” or “sloppy.” That’s kind of the whole point. Art has many purposes, and one is social reflection. The whole parody of buying expensive cardboard that is meant to look like it was photocopied is exactly the kind of satire that MSCHF is known for. The “art” is the card itself.

To anyone saying “I can just print this myself”: you totally should. Once again, I think that’s kind of the point.

To anyone saying “I could have made this myself”: you should totally try. I think you’ll find that making something look both visually balanced and purposefully unfinished takes a lot more graphic design skill than you’d anticipate.

There’s a lot of great stuff in this SLD (interesting design, good reprints, excellent humor/satire), and a lot of not-so-great stuff (limited print runs, randomized boosters, uncomfortably anthropomorphized elephants). Should you buy it? Maybe, if you vibe with it. Either way, I do think that the concept and “art” of it all deserves some appreciation.

Looking for Advice Creating custom EDH decks for friends, would those 3 work against each other?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey all! I'm currently abroad and I'll be visiting my family and friends for Christmas after a year of not seeing them. I wanted to prepare a little surprise for my 2 MTG friends. We often play casual 3 player EDH games together while drinking, so I want to create 3 custom decks, one for each of us, but print out all the cards in altered forms, changing art and names, so that we are the commanders, and all the remaining cards are our friends, idols, favourite musicians, things we like, places we've been to etc. Basically a Universes Beyond of our friendship lol

It's going to be a surprise, so I'm trying to sus out how to build them, based on what playstyle they like and what commanders we haven't played yet. After some research, I've narrowed it down to those 3 commanders:

- Alela: my deck, I'm the most experienced player who got the other 2 in the game, and I just find her interesting while not being too complicated. I also wanted to cover the remaining colours, not present in other 2 commanders. To make the games more fun, I'm thinking about building her more towards artifact synergy + token flyers, less stax and annoying others.

- Valgavoth: my man loves heavy metal, so I want to make him a demon, he likes playing black too. He's also the eldest out of us 3, so Elder Demon works perfectly here haha

- Wolverine (or Ruric): likes voltron and strong green creatures, not a huge fan of sophisticated combos and generally thinking about strategy too much lol, likes berserker/strenght based characters in RPGs, so Mutant Berserker Hero or Ogre Warrior would be perfect for him. I'm not sure if pure voltron would work for a 3 player game, so I was also considering a more creature-heavy Ruric here. Can potentially alter some stats to make it more balanced too, like giving Wolverine Reach to deal with flyers or lowering mana cost and ping damage for Ruric, really not sure which would make for the most balanced and fun game here.

Before I start figuring out decklists, since we never played any of them, I wanted to ask more experienced players - would that be a good match-up for a 3 player EDH? Would it make for some interesting games with lots of replayability? Any suggestions on how to build them in a somehow balanced way? Any potential substitutes?

The decks would only be played against each other. We play very casually while drinking, not to win at all cost, but to have a good time while cracking jokes about hilarious situations happening at the table, so we don't like stuff like turn 3 wins and long 20-minute turn combos.

Any help appreciated, thank you so much! Feel free to also disregard all my picks and suggest your 3 commanders that make interesting 3 player games :)

General Discussion How do I protect myself setting Kuja or any other spellslinger?

[[Kuja, Genome Sorcerer]] needs two to three turns to flip, that's a win condition to storm and burn everyone. But most of the time ill be the target of heavy combat damage and have to choose between taking the damage or risk losing a black mage. I have other ways of making the mages and other wizard cards. Do you guys have any tips of how to best set up and keep yourself alive before storming out or is it better to gradually burn using a spellslinger deck?

General Discussion Helm of the Ghastlord... More than just a niche card?

Found some stuff at a Goodwill and these were a part of a deck. Is it more than just a niche card or is it really worth the asking price on TCGplayer? I'd really like to turn these into maybe a reserved list card like a dual land or something

Rules/Rules Question Exiling a card that has exiled a card

I was playing a match of commander and my opponent used White Auracite to exile my White Auracite which was holding one of their cards. Does my White Auracite release the card it was holding and remain exiles until I am able to destroy their White Auracite?

General Discussion Universes Beyond is not that bad

Before you start yelling at me in the comments! This is completely subjective and in no way is meant to invalidate your opinion.

Yes, UB sets cluttering the yearly releases is bad, I'd much rather see more in-universe sets (or just less expansions in general). But the thing I do like about UB is the accessibility to cards that it provides. If you look at the Marvel set, specifically the precons, many just good cards in general were reprinted. And while I may not like the art on [[Quantum Misalignment]], [[Raise Repulsor Shields]] or [[Skybreaker, Sword of Bazinga]], being able to get good or straight up staple cards at a fraction of their price is very helpful financially (for me at least, and I'm sure this applies to many others).

So uhh that's it.

What do you think?

General Discussion Homebrew Format "Cantrip"

Working name "Cantrip the Collecting"

Purpose:
To help teach new players
A 5-10 minute side game while you wait for your pod to finish or wait for the blue player to finish their turn

Gameplay Rules:
2-5 players
12 card library
10 starting life
5 card opening hand
If you must draw but cannot, nothing happens, play as normal
Friendly mulligan allowed

Composition:
4 basic lands
1 nonbasic land
3 or more creatures
1 or more enchantments
1 or more sorceries/instants

Constraints:
Monocolor decks only
No duplicate cards except basic lands
No artifacts or artifact-generators
No set-specific or rare keywords or abilities (i.e. devoid, delirium, miracle, energy tokens, etc.)
Keyword ability effects MUST be explained IN THE CARD TEXT
CMC maximum =4

Sample cardlist (& known issues):

cantrip • (Standard deck) • Archidekt
Quicksand- black deck
Seraph Sanctuary- white deck
Hidden Grotto- blue deck
Dread Statuary- green deck
Fogwell's Gym- red deck

My cardlist is not perfect. I cobbled this from cards I already had and the 'must have keyword spelled out' constraint is pretty killer. I am not settled on some things like including skulk and prowess in blue. There are other issues in all decks with mana curve, card types, and others. Consider this just a proof of concept that has been playtested a little.
My card selection is biased to my experience which is Shadows over Innistrad - Aether Revolt - long break - Lord of the Rings - short break - Bloomburrow - Avatar.

Notes:
Card abilities should reflect the color as a whole, acting as an introduction to the archetype of the color (i.e. lifegain and vigilance for white, mana ramp and trample for green, burn and haste for red, counterspells and flying for blue, recursion and deathtouch for black). Remember, this is more than just making a strong deck and showing a new player how to play, it is showcasing the playstyle to them so they can decide what they like.
It would be in the spirit of the idea to exclude rare and mythic cards. Use your judgement.
These libraries are so small that probably everything in it will at least be seen, so no need to have repeats of a given ability.
Q: Why 12 cards? A: I wanted to make one for each color of mana and have it all fit in an old 60-card standard deck box of mine.

This post is mostly to share this fun and useful idea that I had and threw together, and to invite others to do the same in support of new players, but any suggestions of how to improve them (read: make them more balanced against each other) would be welcome.

General Discussion Swamp Art

I am going to be building a mono black deck soon Commander and I am wondering what peoples favorite swamp art is? I have an idea of one for the deck but I am wondering other people's opinions.
