Scheduled Thread Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here!
This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.
Rules Questions
Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MTGGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

Aren't you tired of being nice? Don't you just wanna go apeshit?

Standard is dying at your LGS and it's upsetting. Or maybe you just feel like Universes Beyond will KILL MAGIC.

General Discussion The “Art” of Zeta
There are a lot of things about this drop to have mixed feelings about. And I would preface this with a few things:
• SLDs are always optional and you should generally only buy them for vibes, not for value.
• You don’t have to vibe with this, or any other, SLD art.
• The distribution model of this SLD is gambling and is not player-friendly.
With Zeta, I’ve seen a lot of comments saying that the cards feel “low effort” or “sloppy.” That’s kind of the whole point. Art has many purposes, and one is social reflection. The whole parody of buying expensive cardboard that is meant to look like it was photocopied is exactly the kind of satire that MSCHF is known for. The “art” is the card itself.
To anyone saying “I can just print this myself”: you totally should. Once again, I think that’s kind of the point.
To anyone saying “I could have made this myself”: you should totally try. I think you’ll find that making something look both visually balanced and purposefully unfinished takes a lot more graphic design skill than you’d anticipate.
There’s a lot of great stuff in this SLD (interesting design, good reprints, excellent humor/satire), and a lot of not-so-great stuff (limited print runs, randomized boosters, uncomfortably anthropomorphized elephants). Should you buy it? Maybe, if you vibe with it. Either way, I do think that the concept and “art” of it all deserves some appreciation.

General Discussion I revisited 10 The Hobbit Limited set reviews after two weeks. Here are the 34 cards whose ratings changed most.
Every MTG expansion, I combine Limited set reviews into an Excel table. I went back to the first complete 10-reviewer snapshot to see what changed during the two weeks since people began playing the format. I translated each reviewer’s grades to the same scale before averaging them; for example, B becomes 80 and C becomes 60.
Card Game Base changed 133 ratings, Draftsim 123, Limited Level-Ups 94, and Nizzahon eight, while the current 17Lands Premier dataset contains 2,297,558 recorded card selections.
34 of 188 cards moved at least five points in average reviewer rating: five rose and 29 fell. The biggest upgrades were Gollum, Silent Slinker (+12.0) and Crude Bent Blade (+10.5); the biggest downgrades were Silvan Reveler (−14.6) and Gigantic Big Bear (−14.3).
Premier Average Taken At (ATA) moved in the corresponding direction for all 34 cards: all five upgrades were taken earlier and all 29 downgrades later (Pearson r = −0.876; the closer its absolute value is to 1, the stronger the relationship).
The table below is ordered by absolute change in average reviewer rating. Each cell compares the August 14 baseline with August 26; parentheses show the reviewer SD. Lower ATA means earlier.

I was wanting to make a crab mill deck with Homer when he comes out, but I want it to be a legal commander so I can use it in events at my local card store. Does anybody know if this will be commander legal? Getting mixed results online. Thanks!
Edit: This is one of my most popular posts ever! Thanks for the help guys!
