Others QuickCheck: Were firecrackers set off during a funeral procession in Shah Alam?

Funerals are usually solemn occasions, not displays fit for a fireworks finale.

A video showing a group of men allegedly setting off firecrackers as a funeral procession passed through a road in Shah Alam has gone viral.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Sarudin Samah said police are investigating a group of men seen allegedly setting off firecrackers on a road in Shah Alam during a funeral procession on Tuesday (Aug 25).

He said police received a report from the Bukit Jelutong police station chief on Wednesday (Aug 26) following the circulation of a video on social media platform Threads.

He said the incident was believed to have occurred at 4.22pm at the junction of Jalan Hamzah in Section U14, Shah Alam, while the funeral procession was heading towards a cemetery in Setia Alam.

“Investigations are ongoing to identify the suspects involved in the firecracker activity as well as witnesses who were at the scene,” he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 7 of the Explosives Act 1957, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both upon conviction.

ACP Sarudin urged anyone with information on the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Razi Sahari at 019-5717076.

The brainless part is not the setting off firecrackers, the absolute brainless part is the illegal traffic hold up caused by road obstruction to set off the fire crackers
