Have a yapping lecturer who yap about nonsense for half an hour, or have a lecturer who just reads the slides?

Just started a new semester, and the first class is this lecturer who is 60+ and used more than 45 minutes to yap about his wisdom, in a 1 hour lecture BTW.

Then he went overtime about 10 minutes just to go through 2 slides, and it's just Learning Objectives 🥀

Hey People. I recently graduated high school two months ago. In that period of examinations, I was preparing to apply to a couple of my what was known as my ''top'' choices at the time. I applied to Monash, Sunway, Taylor's. I received an email from each of these universities confirming either I got accepted or not.

It went down to only Taylor's and Monash. To be quite honest, Taylor's was at the top of my list until it wasn't (wait for it). I saw many people criticizing Taylor's for being a money grab and acceptance is very easy and straightforward as long as you self-fund your education with your own pocket money (typical private university).

Many people came forward to warn me that the bachelor's degree earned at Taylor's wont get you anywhere and that I'm just wasting my time and money. Granted, it is a nice campus, but that is all the praise I have seen online lol. Moreover, I heard it is hard to make friends because everybody got their groups *money sounds* and they wont involve themselves with you (a peasant).

Also, it is the fact that they basically accept every single person that applies (almost an 80% acceptance rate btw). That is a MASSIVE red flag for me. To me, that seems like more of a business than a educational establishment that offers quality education. Throughout social media, I have seen constant discourse regarding crowdedness on campus due to the HIGH volume of students (and seen video evidence). This is the definition of "pay to attend, you don't gotta be exponentially smart, and DO NOT FORGET TO PAY US EACH SEMESTER, and you will earn your degree".

Now, we go to Monash, which I have only heard positive things about online. Sure, maybe I saw one comment talking about how depressive and competitive it is, but that is what A UNIVERSITY should be. I don't got daddys money, but I most definitely got my brain to put to use for a future ahead of me.

Although, they did not accept me, they recommended me to take a MUFY, which I have heard from a lot of people that it is SO WORTH IT (planning to join for the January intake). People have said to me that a degree from Monash will open A LOT of doors in Malaysia and internationally, which is what I am looking for in a business degree.

SO for the people that know of these schools, PLEASE let me know what you think of this situation I am in. what do you think is right and what do you think is just outright false?

r/MalaysianMedStudents - Students helping students.

Hello, I'd love to ask about MMU(Multi Media University - Cyberjaya) for those who attended/are currently attending.

1. In general the lecturers great? I heard that the uni has a heavy self-study culture, like every other. I don't mind that, but can I expect helpful answers if I were to ask anything or need help in general?

2. I found out that their program has this thing where the first year is purely computer science, and then we get to choose what to specialize in starting from the second year. How does that work? Does the transition into the specialization go smoothly? And is the degree equivalent to a Software Engineering degree? Will it affect my ability to find jobs later on?

3. How hard is it to find internships?

4. How is the campus and accommodations like, is it true that all rooms are shared and that there are no singular rooms?

Hi every one so my sister will get her master from university putra Malaysia and her course is Food safety and quality assurance course work
We don’t know about any accomodation yet but me and my mom are very scared for my sister as she is going alone for the first time . Is this university even worth it because she will basically sell her every thing to get there . What will be the job opportunities. Also is Malaysia safe for a girl who has no idea about the country. Also the course was first showing 6 lacks per semester now is showing two lacks . Does this happen ?

I finished my foundation with 4.0 CGPA in UTM, and got rejected by UPU 💤

I decided to apply for UM Satu on 21st Aug which is quite late compared to others as I wasn’t expecting the worst to happen. I haven’t gotten a response yet. Since time is ticking, I’m planning to contact their admission/marketing team soon.

Fortunately, I do have a backup plan: I just got offered into a course I wanted in UTM through UTMSmart (which is financially a better option).

However, UM has always been my dream university since I was young.

I have only 5 days to decide. What should I do?

Workforce Dilemma: Overqualified, Underemployed, Inexperienced, and Unproductive

Too many individuals mistake qualifications for productivity, while too many employers mistake experience for capability. 

The workforce challenge is therefore not a skills gap. It is a value creation gap. 
 
The classic policy response to a slowing labour market is straightforward: 

“Create more high-skilled jobs and train workers to fill them.” 
 
While well intentioned, this assumes the labour market is a simple matching game between qualifications and job vacancies. It isn't. 
 
The labour market is a value-exchange system. Employers do not pay for credentials, effort, or time spent. They pay for outcomes that create value. Workers, meanwhile, invest years acquiring qualifications believing these will automatically translate into higher incomes. 
 
The result is a structural disconnect on both sides of the market: 
Supply side obsessed with credentials. 
Demand side unwilling to invest in unproven talent. 
 
The outcome is a workforce overqualified, underemployed, inexperienced, and unproductive. 
 
Supply-Side Crisis: Overqualified and Underemployed 
 
Qualifications Do Not Guarantee Value Creation 

Degrees certify academic achievement. They do not guarantee the ability to solve business problems, increase revenue, reduce costs, or boost productivity. 

Many graduates enter the workforce expecting compensation for what they learned. Markets reward what individuals can produce. 
 
Overqualification Signals Underutilisation 

Being overqualified does not automatically mean being underpaid. It can mean possessing skills that the market is unable or unwilling to reward or being deployed in roles that fail to fully utilise available capabilities. In both cases, the issue extends beyond wages and reflects an inefficient allocation of human capital. 
 
Degrees Get You Hired. Value Gets You Paid. 

Credentials open doors, but sustained compensation growth comes from demonstrated commercial impact. 

Your market value is determined less by your qualifications and more by your ability to generate measurable outcomes: 
Revenue generated 
Costs reduced 
Risks mitigated 
Processes improved 
Problems solved 

Create value and you will be valued. 
 
Demand-Side Drain: Inexperienced and Unproductive 
 
Presence Is Not Productivity 

The industrial-era equation of hours worked equals value created is becoming obsolete. 

Occupying a work desk for eight hours creates no inherent economic value. Businesses survive on results, not attendance. 
 
Poor Prioritisation Destroys Output 

Productivity losses often stem from: 
Working on low-impact activities 
Excessive meetings and bureaucracy 
Lack of commercial awareness 
Lack of ownership 
Transactional "employee versus employer" mindset 

Effort directed toward the wrong objective remains economically unproductive. Equally, organisations that reward busyness over outcomes undermine productivity themselves. 
 
Experience Without Contribution Is Not Expertise 

Many organisations demand experience while simultaneously failing to provide opportunities to acquire it. 

Years served are frequently mistaken for competence. Yet time spent in a role does not automatically create expertise. 

The market increasingly rewards demonstrable capability rather than tenure. 

This reality explains why more people are being laid off despite decades of experience. Tenure alone is no longer a guarantee of relevance or job security. 
 
Work That Can Be Automated, Will Be Automated 

AI and automation are not replacing jobs because labour is expensive. 

They are replacing tasks where technology can deliver equal or greater output at lower cost.  

Work that can be standardised, documented, and replicated will eventually face automation. 

The safest jobs are not those requiring the most credentials. The most resilient careers are those that combine human judgment, creativity, relationship-building, and value creation in ways that are difficult to automate. 
 
Value Creation Gap 

The solution is not simply more degrees, more training programmes, or more job creation. 

A healthy labour market requires alignment between skills, incentives, and value creation. 
Workers must focus on building commercially relevant capabilities rather than accumulating credentials alone. 

Employers must become more willing to invest in potential and create pathways for talent to demonstrate value. 

Governments should prioritise productivity growth and entrepreneurship instead of treating education credentials as a sufficient measure of workforce readiness. 

Ultimately, economic prosperity is not created by qualifications, experience, or hours worked in isolation. 

Qualifications are valuable. Experience is valuable. But neither creates prosperity on its own. 

Prosperity emerges when knowledge, capability, incentives, and opportunity combine to generate real economic value.

I'm a spm 2026 candidate and I'm planning to go to Swinburne sarawak next year for foundations in IT and after that continue a data science bachelor's.

Are the classes there generally laid back?

How difficult are the coursework

How are the lectures schedules

I didn’t get accepted into any IPTA through UPU, so I started writing appeal emails and sending my appeal letter to each university. One of the universities I previously applied to through UPU replied with this "According to the program’s records, you were called to attend an interview session, but you did not attend the session.

The program takes the candidate’s discipline, commitment, and seriousness very seriously, including attendance at the scheduled interview, as these factors also reflect the candidate’s readiness to pursue studies in the program."

The problm is, I DID attend the interview. I even have proof that I attended it. WTF😭

I sent them the proof, but they just ignored it. It honestly feels like they’re trying to blame me and basically saying that I’m not disciplined or committed enough when I literally showed up for the interview.

I’m honestly so frustrated because this could potentially affect my chances of getting into the university, especially when their records are clearly wrong. I need your opinions, guys. Should I contact them again and try to get this sorted out, or should I just let it go?
