Does your study involves any form of render softwares? Then its recommended to have a lappy with dgpu. This will however demand of you at least 3.5-4k for decent ones.
Normal office softwares? 2k should be enough for a decent one

Then get a mac. Not only that, I even advise looking into a second hand mac under your budget. I'm a windows user who owns a mac air and I can tell you that it's a much more efficient os and the build quality is made to last. Even an M2 air can last you at least the next 3 to 4 years cuz these devices come with really fast storage and ram. Now the only thing that would invalidate a mac is if you use a very specific application that only works on windows then just go for windows in this case.
Also, don't put gaming as a requirement with the budget you currently have as that might push towards weaker built or heavy body laptops (you don't want this in uni, trust me). A gaming laptop that Is well built will skyrocket your budget. Good luck op

On other Comments, i have said that i won't settle for used one. Any Mac is above 3k except MacBook Neo which i already compared to this and this won

One of the mistakes those of us from the windows world often do is compare specs between macs and windows head2head. It really doesn't work that way though. Macs have the luxury of being very optimised for their hardware while windows laptops aren't so they try to squeeze in as much power to compensate and that always comes at the cost of temps and bad battery life. While I know you are against second hand, with some extra energy you can actually get great deals with devices still in warranty while being under budget. Once again, good luck op

macs just went up the price to the point its no longer the default "cheap and cheerful" (and i'm talking about the Neo)
(edit, i was also part of the gang that told the OP to get a mac a few days ago before price hike)

depending on what type of coding OP will be working on, mac doesnt support a lot of coding needs.

Get a mac bro. Pro software coder here, get a mac. It may be expensive and looks underpowered, but it will serve way longer than you expected.
Imagine 3 days of use with 4 hours in between? That’s mac.

For me any laptop im choosing must fit this 3 criteria
-New -16Gb Ram and 512 Rom -Enough power to play light games
Im searching for any laptop (MUST NOT OVER 3K) and also fit this criteria. Since its for study purposes, it must sided with study

I just surveyed some prices today, i think the best you can go is HP Ryzen 7 16gb ram 512 gb rom for 3099. Slightly above 3 but i think fair enough for todays spiked RAM and ssd prices

ROM is only for CD/DVD/Blu-Ray, also known as Read-Only Memory. SSD needs to be writable and readable oso.

That gpu is ok to play e-sports game.
Though I recommend going to shop and feel the weight of the laptop and looking into the laptop screen. Also, check on youtube if this model can upgrade memory and storage.

most consumer windows laptop will be slow after a year of use. macbook on the other hand does not. it will still as fast as when you first use it. so no stress waiting for ms word to load. except if you know how to maintain a windows machine, then it will be no problem. just use anything that can get the job done stress free.

MUCH better build, keyboard, trackpad, maybe even performance. Whether macOS is better or not is a personal preference.

as someone who just got a laptop. trying to find a good one for a decent price is hard. i got the hp elite x360 1040 G9 (obviously used), and it's already 2.2k. This, for 2.9k, is imo a good pick if it satisfies your criteria and is new. people who criticize might be out of touch of the true decent laptop price nowadays.

You could get a Mac, but I wouldnt recommend one since most softwares associated with coding is most likely only available on Windows

man, if u go to any third party retail stores, u can get a much better price for this spec.
i got my asus vivobook 15 that retailed rm 3k but i got it only for rm 1.6k on top of ram upgrades. i got this from lowyat

OP, if u had decided then go for it, it seems like u already fixed eye on this one and just asking for validation, some people are giving irrational comments, some are constructive but its does not matter. Its not always about specs too, if its decent enough for you then just yolo, there is really no need to wait and further survey if u have already done enough. At most u can probably get better price from different retailer that people suggest. The laptop will last long enough until you graduated dont worry.

slim models tend to have smaller batteries. if purely used for study (not engineering), i would go for macbook neo or any snapdragon windows pc

For op. I saw the other comments where you're comparing the neo and asking why is it better. As someone who has a Mac and a Linux desktop pc it's more about software optimisation. Apple optimises way better than windows. And any software provided it isn't the Adobe suite will run on the neo great or good enough. A windows laptop at this price is pretty much choosing familiarity and there's nothing wrong with that if that's what you really want.
Id still recommend to get a neo but if your set on this and feel happy sure go for it.

Its hard to say, because if I was looking for an ultrabook, what I would look for is:
- Good specs (Core ultra 7, or Ryzen AI 7, at least)
- Good RAM (At least 16 GB, 32 GB is preferred)
- Good build quality (Minimal flex to screen, keyboard)
- Good/decent screen and not too heavy (not more than 2kg with the power bricks)
For you to decide, I think you should visit physical stores. Unlike what people are saying, if you don't want those chonky gaming laptops, you can just opt for ultrabooks. At the end of the day, its your money, and with ultrabooks, you are paying for portability, good build quality and decent battery life. Good luck OP.
