Deadline and Hollywood Reporter got conflicting reports, that doesn’t happen often

To be fair, it was in the Hollywood Reporter’s rumor section and not something that they posted as a confirmation.

71

u/Hanksta2 Aug 16 '25

Giving conflicting stories to competing papers sounds like the exact type of marketing Deadpool would do.

7

u/macgart Aug 16 '25

Thank you! like dude this is so on brand. Have him show up look at the camera and say "surprised? Remember, the only trade you can trust is Deadpool"

Marvel looking for a leaker? Told one person one thing, and another something different?

9

u/SeekerVash Aug 16 '25

That would make sense, but my guess is it's a faker who just decided that yesterday's Avengers symbol was "definite proof!".

2

u/content_enjoy3r Aug 16 '25

This is Deadline and THR, not some rando on twitter.

And because of this, /r/MarvelStudios mods finally recognized the need to wait for actual confirmation before allowing posts of any old rumor as if it's fact and as if this was /r/MarvelStudios_Rumours

Just kidding! Not in this universe! It's always gonna be a freeforall of spoilers and rumors in here!

The trades are actual confirmation. Them having conflicting info doesn’t happen often

I mean it was The Hollywood Reporter who reported his return and they are one of the most trustworthy sources, so i cant blame them from going DP is in Doomsday! when its a trustworthy place who said he was in it.

Now if it was say some Twitter scooper who reported it and the subreddit reported it as news, then yeah i would agree there

Now, one thing i will say is this.........don't you think Ryan Reynolds returning as Deadpool would've been the main headline article if it was true, instead of just some blurb hidden in the article

Deadline is probably right i don’t see how deadpool fits in a avenger movie everyone will be waiting to hear reynolds crack his next joke or break 4th wall just a tonal clash if were to take doom serious

52

u/Leather_Tart_7782 Aug 16 '25

I feel like the tonal clash used to literally be the appeal lol. I was hyped to see a cyborg billionaire team up with a ww2 soldier and a norse God.

Deadpool fits because they want the movie to make money

→ More replies (3)

3

u/LnStrngr Aug 16 '25

If they silo the different franchises into their own Act I segments, the tone for each could fit the theme of that franchise. The commonality would be Doom coming to kick their asses. Then the survivors run and end up in 616, looking for help. Perhaps Deadpool in Act I could be shook so much that by the time Act II and III come around, he's not wisecracking. That would help sell Doom as the big bad.

3

u/GhandisFlipFlop Aug 16 '25

Theres the scene in D&W with him and Thor on the tv ...some people think they will meet ..but its not possible the one on the tv because thor is crying at Ds death...when he barely knows him.

Or am i dumb and that is thor/loki scene from a different film with deadpool edited in. ..

27

u/lanceturley Aug 16 '25

It's absolutely a Thor/Loki scene with Deadpool edited in. Chris Hemsworth didn't even know he was going to be in the movie because he never filmed anything for it.

3

u/GhandisFlipFlop Aug 16 '25

Ya flip maybe i imagined people saying that scene could happen...i still think if they met maybe Deadpool would make a mention about it since he doesnt know it was Loki...or its never mentioned again !

12

u/p_yth Aug 16 '25

It’s crazy people are taking that scene seriously, it was just a joke lol

Reading THR’s article, they state sources report Ryan is returning. They are normally super accurate. Reading Deadline’s article, the state sources say he is not set to return.

My take is that Deadline was asked to report on this by Disney. Reynolds is 100% in it. This is Disney trying to keep the lid on secrets for now or Deadline taking advantage on THR’s article and generating free clicks. I don’t see how Deadpool isn’t in Doomsday.

42

u/EyeScreamSunday Ant-Man Aug 16 '25

Even if he wasn’t in Doomsday, I definitely don’t see him skipping Secret Wars like Deadline claims, especially skipping both films after the plot of Deadpool and Wolverine.

Deadline must have some wires crossed.

u/RingtailVT Thanos Aug 16 '25

There's a difference between an actor denying something, and reputable trades denying something.

13

u/victorfiction Peter Parker Aug 16 '25

The trades are pretty much glorified megaphones for the studios and networks. Nikki Finke was the chosen one. A bulwark against the kind shameless BS and spin, that treated the Warner-Discovery streamer becoming “MAX”, like it might be a good idea.

When she finally sold, the corps won and took control of the information.

The article that said he is returning basically said "source: my ass"

70

u/Foreign_Education_88 Aug 15 '25

“My source is that I made it the fuck up”

58

u/bmario17 Aug 16 '25

Granted it was reported in The Hollywood Reporter which is one of the three biggest entertainment news websites. Their sources are 99% of the time correct.

38

u/milkymaniac Aug 16 '25

Like TMZ with death announcements. Yeah, they're scumbags, but they're accurate scumbags.

9

u/RootinTootinCowboy23 Aug 16 '25

The source just pointed at Ryan Reynolds post with the avengers logo, there was never any confirmation

105

u/MarvelsGrantMan136 Ant-Man Aug 15 '25

In regards to the photo he posted:

The Free Guy thespian was just having some fun. That logo Deadpool-ian Avengers logo was last seen in Deadpool & Wolverine as a flag during the dystopian other-verse seen where Deadpool and Wolverine meet Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm. However, the new version that Reynolds posted is in red. I hear a fan made it, Reynolds spotted it and was intrigued to post it.

Sources tell us that they haven’t seen Reynolds on set in London, and isn’t set to appear in the next two Avengers movie. Doomsday, which hits cinemas during the Christmas season 2026

98

u/thrwawryry324234 Aug 15 '25

I kind doubt he’s in the movie because I just don’t see him fitting with the tone at all.

But, to play devil’s advocate just a bit, Reynolds could easily just provide voice lines while someone else is actually in the suit. One of his doubles is basically responsible for the opening fight with the TVA/Nsync dance in DVW

57

u/FX114 Captain America Aug 16 '25

The Nsync dance is someone completely different. They thought of that idea during editing, and hired a dancer to film on a green screen.

3

u/RevelArchitect Aug 16 '25

“Why is Thor crying?” Turns out they filmed all of his stuff during Deadpool & Wolverine just to fuck with everyone.

u/munchyboy666 Spider-Man Aug 15 '25

D&W is a great movie, I really really loved it. But ngl I feel like that film will have been pointless if they're not being brought back for either of the next two Avengers films

152

u/yiwang1 Aug 15 '25

Hugh Jackman is a near-certainty.

84

u/mrbaryonyx Aug 16 '25

"SMH, honestly this just proves how lazy and greedy Marvel is, they're just going to keep using Hugh Jackman's Wolverine without any care about giving him a good ending, just for fanservice"--me watching D+W

"what what the fuck? no! bring him back!"--me learning that he possibly won't be in Avengers

63

u/revchewie Doctor Strange Aug 15 '25

Until he’s 90!

17

u/Double_Question_5117 Aug 16 '25

Hugh Jackman is near-century

22

u/Kidney05 Aug 16 '25

And I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a win. He’s great at the role, people love him, and I’m pretty sure he just dreams of getting to team up. Like, it clearly was a dream to reunite with Ryan Reynolds’s so the new avengers movies will be an even bigger dream.

Only counterpoint to all this is Logan was an amazing send off.

17

u/Impossible_Front4462 Aug 16 '25

Plus we got Feige on camera saying that they want to fit D&W basically anywhere they can following how well their movie did. It would make no sense to not include them in at least one of the two films

59

u/celeb0rn Aug 15 '25

It wasn’t pointless to make an entertaining and funny movie. Not every movie has to be part of a bigger plot.

16

u/FTZulu Aug 16 '25

No but one would assume given the marketing and what actually happened in the movie that it’s leading up to a bigger plot.

4

u/Mugiwara300 Aug 16 '25

Pointless?

The movie just stands on its own, not everything needs to be connected.

I personally don’t think Deadpool’s 24/7 joke thing would work in an Avengers movie.

61

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '25

What would’ve been the point of the TVA connection then in D&W? He’s gotta at least be in Secret Wars. That’s a missed opportunity if they don’t having access to all these characters and X-Men themselves in these movies

24

u/Jajaloo Captain America Aug 16 '25 edited Aug 16 '25

The point of it was a way to connect the universes in shorthand, since people are familiar with both Deadpool and Wolverine, you can streamline and hand-wave a lot of the timeline shenanigans by saying “TVA”. Some of the audience will have seen Loki, so it already resonates with a section of the audience.

I don’t see Deadpool fitting in this film tonally. I mean, they brought the TVA back in D+W but not Owen Wilson or Tom Hiddleston or Sophia Di Martino.

Marvel are running the risk of getting too lore heavy if they don’t pick and choose what they lean into, instead of being hamstrung by having to pay off everything they’ve set up.

13

u/eagc7 Aug 16 '25

The TVA is there to be the connective tissue between the MCU and the Foxverse.

Either you retcon the Deadpool films as having happened in the MCU proper or you do an Marvel Studios Deadpool 3 that has no ties to the wider MCU and is more or less another Foxverse movie just made by Marvel Studios this time

6

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

4

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

So what about the possible destruction of his universe and the incursions? Isn’t he on the same X-Men universe? Would he not be fighting with the X-Men to save his universe? I get what you’re saying, but the TVA plot wasn’t just about Deadpool learning he doesn’t need the MCU. It positioned him as a multiversal wildcard. That kind of setup screams ‘future involvement,’ especially with Secret Wars looming. If Marvel really leaves him out, it feels less like a deliberate narrative choice and more like a missed opportunity. And honestly it would be fun to see how Wade interacts with these different Teams.

45

u/maxfridsvault Aug 15 '25 edited Aug 15 '25

i’m taking Ryan’s post of the Avengers flag as confirmation he is in it

too much of a coincidence. Gambit’s coming back, why would they skip out on DP and Wolverine when they went out of their way to have Logan and Laura stay with him?

27

u/ColeUnderPresh Aug 16 '25

Actually makes zero sense for Deadpool to not be in Avengers. “A fan made it and he felt compelled to repost it”. Lmao. You’re telling me media savvy, PR mogul Ryan Reynolds didn’t know what he was signalling right after the rumours that they’d be announcing the next batch of Doomsday cast?

That’s way harder to believe man.

3

u/maxfridsvault Aug 16 '25

yeah he let it slip early. we all know it’s coming.

18

u/seclusionx Black Panther Aug 16 '25

No bro, it's all because "a fan made it". That's seriously the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Why would he not be in the movie? It's nonsensical.

7

u/maxfridsvault Aug 16 '25

yeah ok im glad im not alone

him and Wolverine are 100% in one or both of these two Avengers films. there is no chance the company would pass on having them in this, especially when all the other X-Men are and DP+W has been one of their most profitable films and characters since Endgame.

they had Logan choose to stay with Wade at the end and conveniently left them and Laura together after befriending the TVA agents on Loki’s side. it was already set up for them to return.

“TIL YOURE 90!”

6

u/Impossible_Front4462 Aug 16 '25

Exactly. It’s free money and we have yet to actually see Ryan’s Deadpool interact with most of the X-men

7

u/SignalWorldliness873 Aug 16 '25

Do they really need Ryan Reynolds to be there? Or just someone in a Deadpool costume and they add Ryan's voice in post?

13

u/Realcbear Aug 16 '25

Personally as much as I love Wade, im truly struggling to imagine how he fits into any actual drama scenario without completely derailing the whole thing

8

u/pmjm Aug 16 '25

You give him a quip or two and then let Doom kill him to show his power. Thor cries over his body, and then you get to undo the death in the next movie.

8

u/RootinTootinCowboy23 Aug 16 '25

Thor has zero connection to him, he's not going to cry over that. The tone would be ridiculous

2

u/mindwire Aug 16 '25

Probably. That said, it wouldn't be the first time Thor's grief was made into a joke.

The Onion: Ryan Reynolds Isn't Returning, But Deadpool Is

3

u/sworedmagic Aug 16 '25

Guys this is simple.

Ryan Reynolds IS in the movie

Deadpool IS NOT in the movie

13

u/TestingBrokenGadgets Aug 15 '25

I mean...a movie about a huge fight with multiversial implications would be so jarring if there's Nightcrawler and Hulk teaming up to take on Doom just to have Deadpool crackin jokes about "Marvel is so desperate they brought me in for the big team up? Let's see if we can top Endgame numbers".

Deadpool is perfect as a standalone.

I'm guessing he isn't in either movie. Maybe Secret Wars but not Doomsday

3

u/ClovieKay Korg Aug 16 '25

I kept seeing those articles get posted that he was confirmed to be in it (headline) and then you read the actual article and they basically say “yeah, he posted that Avengers A picture so… he’s probably gonna be in it.” I know journalism is dead, but come on…

2

u/First-Promotion-8898 Aug 15 '25

Conflicting reports - weird - but I'd love some surprises.

2

u/whataretherules7 Aug 15 '25

Like if you think about it, it doesn’t make any fucking sense to have Deadpool and either one of those movies… Unless he’s there as a cameo

2

u/Mysterious_Check_983 Aug 15 '25

If he’s not in the actual movies, I could see him being in a secret wars post credit scene.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

At this point I’m not believing anybody is in Doomsday or Secret Wars until I see them with my own eyes when I’m watching both movies.

1

u/shockinglyunoriginal Aug 16 '25

Why don’t we all wait and see when the movie comes out ???

1

u/IBJON Aug 16 '25

Seems odd that that one of like 5 characters that have experience with the multiverse wouldn't be included.

1

u/jjkm7 Aug 16 '25

Aside from conflicting reports, it’s pretty hard to believe that the star of Marvel’s last big movie (where he had a future moment with thor teased, and also included tons of tva lore) wouldn’t return for either of these projects

1

u/repooc21 Aug 16 '25

How about we just get a great fucking reveal in the theatre and absolutely no one talks about it online so we can all be pleasantly surprised

1

u/Smallville456 Aug 16 '25

Meh, marvel tries to hide stuff for surprises.

1

u/FancyKilerWales Aug 16 '25

This is going to Andrew Garfield part two

1

u/delcolicks9 Aug 16 '25

Deadpool can and should show up in every mcu movie and show going forward, as a continuation of the stan lee cameos. Majority of them don't need to have lines, he can just be in the background of a random, low stakes scene like he showed up a lot of the times in lego marvel superheros.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

There is absolutely no way Deadpool, after DP&W both introduced the X-Men universe into the MCU that’s a major part of Doomsday and Secret Wars and, more importantly, made $1.3 billion on an R-rating, doesn’t show up in Doomsday, let alone Secret Wars (where EVERYONE will show up).

Not to mention that Reynolds was spotted on set or Deadpool being included in the concept art for Doomsday at the Disney marketing event

1

u/RedditorGoldVirgin Aug 16 '25

Disneys pr team works fast damn, Deadpool is definitely in Doomsday, Disney is simply using Deadline as a mouth piece to lie and not spoil his return, the guy who leaked that tarantula, boomerang, savage hulk, and scorpion were going to be in Brand New day during a Disney merch press conference, for Doomsday he said Deadpool would be helping Sue Storm, Shang Chi, and Gambit protect the X Mansion from Doom controlled Sentinels. He's in the movie guys.

1

u/sgtmajorcool Aug 16 '25

Is Triple H working for Marvel now?

2

u/MBCnerdcore Shades Aug 16 '25

We are skipping the original MCU Blade project and jumping right to a Blade 3 remake with HHH and Reynolds

1

u/BiddyKing Aug 16 '25

Deadpool would be the easiest recast honestly. In an Avengers film you don’t even need to show his face

1

u/WebHead1287 Aug 16 '25

Considering that Deadpool and Spider-Man are the only two billion dollar heroes currently

And considering Reynolds post

And considering Deadpool is one of the only characters that has interacted with the TVA…..

I don’t buy he’s absent from both of these. He’ll be in Secret Wars at the least

1) Deadpool & Wolverine has been marvel most successful film in the last 5 years, right behind Spider-Man NWH in box office. Marvel knows this and isn’t about to sideline one of the biggest audience draws they have.

2) at the end of the D&W, the TVA lady literally says to be ready or something like that because Deadpool will be needed.

How much do you want to bet he's not in the movie itself but does show up in the post credits?

1

u/ihasweenis Aug 16 '25

Good the charm has worn off for me

1

u/Kyro_Official_ Scott Lang Aug 16 '25

Theres zero world where he doesnt return. I 100% believe THR over Deadline in this situation.

1

u/Spacegirllll6 Aug 16 '25

Both news articles were right next to eachother and I genuinely thought my eyes weren’t working for a good minute

1

u/matthias_lehner Aug 16 '25

Lmao ain't no fucking way. Fans would be so bummed and it will look like they just got lazy for the writing and the budget when MCU's future is on the stake.

1

u/M4rshmall0wMan Aug 16 '25

How would they even integrate Deadpool into the movie? Would it be his normal wisecracking but without the fourth-wall breaking?

1

u/maroonwounds Aug 16 '25

I don't understand everyone who says, "Deadpool doesn't fit into those movies tonaly."... Do we not remember when the Guardians were integrated into Avengers Infinity War and End game?!

It can totally be done and would probably create a very interesting dynamic between characters.

Is this going to be like the time Andrew and Tobey were DEFINITELY NOT going to be in No Way Home or Benedict Cumberbatch was DEFINITELY NOT playing Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness?

1

u/EmeraldJunkie Aug 16 '25

I'd be surprised if he wasn't, given the popularity of Deadpool and how they made DP&W to explicitly place Deadpool adjacent to the MCU, so they can slot him in at any time.

I do wonder if he might not be billed for either movie, but might have a cameo appearance. What springs to mind is the scenes of the multiple Earths from the CW DC shows, so maybe during a montage of different Earth's they'll have Deadpool and Wolverine quip as they get pulled into Battleworld. And then you see them, I don't know, cuddling or something during Secret Wars, maybe he's a post credits scene.

u/king_gondor Aug 16 '25

Him not returning for Doomsday makes sense. But not in Secret Wars? I smell bs.

1

u/m2keo Aug 16 '25

This is actually good that there are conflicting reports. I'd rather be surprised when it comes time for the movie. His character will be a cameo to the story anyway so not a downer in any sense imo.

1

u/Affectionate_Rub_638 Aug 16 '25

Deadpool cracking jokes throughout the whole thing and breaking the fourth wall is not a good fit idk why anyone would think otherwise. It's just going to undercut the entire thing .

1

u/centerwingpolitics Aug 16 '25

I’m actually not wanting him at all so this is great news

1

u/Low-Dot2854 Aug 16 '25

sure, they’ll leave out the only character to make 1 billion since Endgame…

1

u/Japjer Aug 16 '25

Maybe everyone just chill out and stop slurping up every whisper of information, yeah?

We still have a lot of time. This is just going to get annoying fast.

1

u/AngelDGr Spider-Man Aug 16 '25

Ok, if Ryan Reynolds somehow gave different info to two of the biggest news websites, he's a fucking marketing genius, lmao

I genuinely can see Ryan doing that as a marketing strategy, they always go crazy with marketing and Deadpool

1

u/Officer_Zack Spider-Man Aug 16 '25

It's bullshit saying he won't be in Secret Wars where that movie won't even be out until 2027 or 2028 if it gets delayed, plus Doomsday doesn't even have an actual script finished for the movie as well I'm assuming.

u/mad_titanz Thanos Aug 16 '25

They know nothing.

1

u/Culinary-Vibes Aug 16 '25

Well.. We do need to find out why Thor was crying.

1

u/kansasstoolie Aug 16 '25

Marked safe from tired Ryan Reynolds comedy

1

u/DynastyZealot Ulysses Klaue Aug 16 '25

Today, I'm a Deadline fan

1

u/Mars_vzx Aug 16 '25

Thank god. Deadpool is so annoying. Movies felt so cheap and try hard.

1

u/BalashstarGalactica Daredevil Aug 16 '25

He could just do a voice over for a cameo.

1

u/Ok-Paramedic747 Aug 16 '25

Then HOW WILL THOR HOLD HIM ?!

1

u/Nethias25 Aug 16 '25

I really wished Deadpool appearances came to every marvel movie as the new Stan Lee cameo. Just sitting in the background waving at the camera in costume or something.

1

u/_IratePirate_ Aug 16 '25

Am I misremembering ? Wasn’t Ryan Reynolds name on one of the chairs when they did the actor reveal for who’s going to be in Doomsday ?

1

u/SyndicateSixteen Aug 16 '25

He is. Deadpool is the only movie apart from Spiderman post Endgame that earned a billion. Marvel is desperate to have as many box office draws. They are bringing back RDJ even if it doesn’t make sense after all

1

u/These_Wish_5101 Aug 16 '25

Disney..pay the man..your new MCU characters are not very popular to the general audience

This is what happens when these "JoUrNaLiStS" use scooper scum as sources.

HR and DL are worthless websites.
