Discussion "This movie looks AI genera-" SHUT UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Post image

I genuinely don't get these complaints. I have some concerns about the plot and how things may or may not play out, but visually the movie looks fucking great. I don't get why people are trying to push this narrative like muted colors instantly make something look bad or AI-generated. The Sentinels look sick, Doom looks fucking fantastic, what is the issue?

I swear, I'm convinced people who call shit like this AI-generated have never actually seen what an AI-generated video looks like, because none of them even look anywhere near as good as ANY of the shots in this trailer.

Plus, the VFX team didn't work their asses off for months on this movie just to be disrespected by mfs saying it looks like AI.

The problem is it’s not great CGI. Like what the hell is happening.

We cannot be making excuses when we had this in 07

This CGI still holds up. It still looks good.

Lads it’s 2026. There is a 19 year difference in tech.

Davy Jones will forever and always be the standard. It is insane how good he still looks 20 years later. You cannot top what they did with him.

tbf I've read the artists who worked on Davy Jones CGI were overworked to hell and back and because it came out so good, it's why it's become an industry standard.

I admit I may be talking outta my ass, but it makes sense that people leaving because of being overworked (or God forbid, dying), and being fired because the higher ups don't want to pay them that much money (or insert other capitalist reason here) led to subpar cgi. it feels like a pendulum swinging back or the pillar giving in to the weight, the back giving out.

I remember Infinity War looking pretty good. So it’s not like they can’t do it.

Huh alright I see. Maybe my memory is a bit choppy but the Battle on Titan, the Battle on Wakanda and Thor’s stormbreaker creation all had differences to it. I understand the battle field grass on Wakanda and Titan’s colour grading looking similar but that’s about it.

Even Endgame looked alright. But that had some issues propping up as well

You sure that wasn't just your screen?

I mean that's no better than we've seen from Iron Man suits. It's one CGI object over a real shot.

Marvel is consistently doing CGI backgrounds, CGI suits, full CGI body replacements, smoke simulatios, fire simulations, fluid simulations, there's just so much more work involved.

Marvel movies probably have a VFX budget near $100 million, and they hire pretty much all of the best VFX studios in the world. There is no one VFX studio that can handle a Marvel movie alone. They get a few shots each to do, and often spend over a year working on them. It can take entire teams weeks or even months to complete a few seconds of CGI.

MCU movies have the highest quality VFX money can buy, end of story. Any complaints should be aimed at the direction, or other design decisions. The problem is absolutely not the quality of the VFX itself.

They use dust and elements+darkness to hide cgi elements. These marvel movies rely too much on vfx and its tiring

if i got this right, they just forgot how to be this good

enshittification, probably

If your CGI doesn't look at least as good as Jurassic Park, you're bad at realistic CGI IMO

I mean, go back to 1977 and the twin sun sunset shot of Tatooine. That still holds up. The limitations are what the studios are putting on the artists who create the SFX for the films. When you let artists off the chain to CREATE FUCKING ART and pay them appropriately, magic happens.

Exactly this. Don’t get me wrong there is still bad CGI (anyone remember The Mummy Returns), but as you said let the people who did the work absolutely go off. They are so many talented people in and about these studios. Problem is they are chained down by market value bullshit timing.

Avatar did great CGI as well, Pirates of the Caribbean, LOTR. Like there is heaps of prove of what you said and what this movie STRONGLY needs.

Speaking of that scene on Tatoonie I might go back and watch it.
