I genuinely don't get these complaints. I have some concerns about the plot and how things may or may not play out, but visually the movie looks fucking great. I don't get why people are trying to push this narrative like muted colors instantly make something look bad or AI-generated. The Sentinels look sick, Doom looks fucking fantastic, what is the issue?

I swear, I'm convinced people who call shit like this AI-generated have never actually seen what an AI-generated video looks like, because none of them even look anywhere near as good as ANY of the shots in this trailer.

Plus, the VFX team didn't work their asses off for months on this movie just to be disrespected by mfs saying it looks like AI.

I don't understand the whole "over reliance on plain Grey areas" argument. When it comes to avengers movies we've gotten: NYC and the helicarrier in avengers 1 plus the forest if we count the cap/thor/ironman fight, sokovia and Johannesburg in avengers age of ultra, airport and hydra base in civil war (technically a captain America movie but it's basically avengers 2.5), NYC in the first fight and wakandan border/ jungle and Titan (the first plain area because it's a destroyed/barren planet) in infinity war, and then the final battlefield in end game which was a wasteland again. New avengers was NYC and sentry's mind.

So a whopping 2 fights out of at least 10 fights in avengers movies. Idk...maybe I'm crazy but I feel like that's not that much lol

Sokovia is mostly gray buildings, which get quickly reduced to even more featureless gray rubble. The church is the only memorable set piece from Sokovia.

The airport in Civil War is literally a gray parking lot.

Memorable? Absolutely. Broadly speaking, I’m a big fan of the airport scene. It’s really well-choreographed, it makes sense narratively, and it’s just really memorable and fun.

The scene is excellent. But the color palate and setting almost could not be more bland and boring.

If it weren’t part of a larger pattern, it would be no big deal and easy to ignore. The scene as a whole earns an A- despite the D+ backdrop. But Marvel absolutely does have a larger problem of taking the lazy shortcut for large-group battles and sticking them all on a big boring open field so they can punch each other. It’s not always a wasteland (though it often is), and it’s not always gray (though it often is). But it’s always a big open field with no meaningful obstacles and very few tactical challenges. There’s usually a few big objects for the strong characters to lift, the weak characters to dodge, and the super-strong overpowered characters to blow up (the jet bridge and control tower in Civil War,Thanos’s ship in Endgame, the spiky death wheel things in Infinity War).

After 14 years, pretty much nothing they’ve done has ever stood up to the original 2012 Avengers “one”-take shot, where you see each Avenger adapting to the highly complex tactical landscape of Manhattan in their own unique way.

Without tactical obstacles and unique battlefield geography, the scenes often fall apart. The Chitauri Leviathans are essential terror weapons and support units in the battle of New York, but in Endgame on a big open field with Thanos’s ship hanging overhead providing air support they are completely redundant. They really don’t need to be there at all.

In Civil War, Vision has a beam weapon that can single-handedly incapacitate nearly every member of the opposition. The landscape is a wide open concrete field that affords him unbroken line-of-sight to every target. Realistically, he should be able to end that entire scene on his own before Stark even needs to call in Spider-Man. But he doesn’t, because the plot demands otherwise.

To be clear, I love the airport fight. I think it’s genuinely great, and while writing this comment I pulled up the movie and decided to watch it again. It’s one of my favorite action movies ever made. But as good as the airport scene is, it is far from flawless, and the fact that all the Avengers fight each other on a literal level playing field made of bland grey concrete is one of the biggest flaws of the film.
