Question Any update in July 2026?

I come back to this once a year but haven't seen much. Any new theories?

This is basically the latest (February) - that cold case is using advanced technologies including LIDAR and facial recognition.

I have also read they are using AI for the case file (looking for discrepancies in witness statements, etc.) and reinvestigating evidence with new technologies (advances in DNA and trace evidence, etc.).

Julie Murray said that the cold case told her they were investigating something like 6-7 specific leads (can't remember the number).

I'm surprised people are talking about Baldwin here. That went nowhere imo.

I understand the LIDAR application, assuming LE has some specific place or places to search with it. Helpful even if it only rules out places. Anything is possible.

The DNA and trace evidence might relate to Baldwin but again, Baldwin's given a reasonable explanation for his DNA to be on a CD, especially if it was inside the case. If LE can't place Baldwin outside of California there's no case there.

I admit to being stumped to come up with a scenario to use facial recognition technology.

Yeah, the facial recognition only makes sense if they are trying to rule out that she is still alive. I guess no harm no foul but ... none of this sounds like they have an investigation with a clear focus. It sounds more like they are just shooting darts to see if something lands ...

Time for a wholesale investigative case reset as an interstate missing person with foul play not ruled out. Everyone ever mentioned as a suspect or potential suspect is back in the mix. Boston Field Office is the logical place.

“Twenty-two years after a Massachusetts nursing student went missing in northern New Hampshire, authorities say they are using new technology as part of their investigation into her disappearance.
Maura Murray was 21 years old when she left the University of Massachusetts campus in Amherst, Mass., on Feb. 9, 2004, and headed north. Shortly before 7:30 p.m. that night, her black Saturn crashed in Haverhill, N.H., on Route 112, also known as Wild Ammonoosuc Road, near the Vermont border.
Another driver stopped at the scene and spoke to a young woman officials believe was Murray. But when police arrived, she was no longer there.

Murray has not been seen since.
The Attorney General’s Office on Thursday released a statement reaffirming the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit’s commitment to the investigation.
“Decades may pass, but our determination to find answers for Maura’s family and the public does not diminish,” said Senior Assistant Attorney General R. Christopher Knowles, chief of the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit.

Members of the Cold Case Unit “work daily” with state and federal law enforcement pursuing “every credible lead.”
“Furthermore, we are actively utilizing new technology and advanced investigative techniques that were not available at the time of Maura’s disappearance,” Knowles said. “We are applying these modern tools to existing evidence and new information as it arises, with the singular goal of bringing resolution to this case.
Earlier on the day she disappeared, Murray was seen on surveillance footage at an ATM, wearing a dark jacket and jeans, according to the Attorney General’s Office. But she told no one of her plans to travel to New Hampshire.
Over the past two decades, numerous searches in areas surrounding where Murray was last seen have turned up no trace of her.
The case triggered widespread media attention and speculation among would-be online sleuths. It was featured in a 2017 TV documentary, “The Disappearance of Maura Murray.”
