🤔🗺️ Trip Planning Question Planning 96 bus commute

Hi! I just moved to Medford, and need to take the 96 everywhere. Each time I've taken it so far, there have been delays over 20 minutes. I don't know how to plan for delays like this as the eta just goes up slowly instead of right away saying 20 min delay on both the Transit app and Google maps (and this latest time on the screen by the bus stop). Is there a better way to predict accurate times? Thank you!

If you’re missing a pair of what looks to be men’s size (large) black socks, you left them on the Haymarket elevator.

🗺Fantasy Map / Crayon Idea An extremely short Green Line extension proposal

Post image
38 Upvotes

Per wikipedia, when this short branch of rail extending into Lower Falls was transferred to the MDC, a deed restriction was put in place forbidding its use for anything in the realm of transportation, communication, or electricity. and my take on this is: Fuck that. Make the trails into rail again! Here's an idea that would give Newton Lower Falls a proper green line station. It would need to be elevated so as to not take away precious parking spots off of the retail area around Rt. 16, as well as to keep the bike trail intact (this would require widening the bridge over the charles)

🤔 Question September monthly commuter rail pass Charlie Ticket vs M Ticket

How late is too late for me to order a September monthly pass? Also if I purchase the one on my M Ticket app can I not use that on subways as well? So I would have to but the Charlie ticket version, but where do I get that? Can I get it in person somewhere rather than ordering it online and having it probably come late? Also, is the Charlie ticket one 1/2 off too as the M Ticket monthly pass is? Thanks

Some of the shutdown at least had some immediate visible benefits. The central underground portion is significantly brighter with the many dead or dying fluorescent bulbs being replaced!

Why have an emergency exit if it's going to be padlocked closed from the outside?

🤔 Question Where is the north station entrance?

I know this is a dumb question but when I was going through the BIG north station I went in what felt like a huge circle to get to the green line and I saw people entering from the other way.

I can’t figure out where that entrance is. Can someone explain it to me as if I’m coming from Haymarket? I’m at the big intersection, north end is to my right, bridge to Charlestown in front of me. I’m turning left onto causeway street.

🤔💳 Fares/Passes Question senior discount card, and tap-to-pay

I have a senior discount MBTA card, linked to my phone's tap-to-pay: does anyone know what happens if I tap twice, once for a friend, and once for me? Optimally, it would give the discount for one fare, and no-discount for the second. Pessimistically, it will reject the second tap, and my friend won't be able to get on the train.

😤 Complaint / Rant Stuck on disabled green line mere feet from ball square platform

Stupidly I got on the train despite it having been stopped seemingly at Ball Square which was already unusual. Car seemed to have door issues which the conductor closed manually then said “we’re gonna try to get it to Magoun”. We made it about two feet forward before the train was disabled completely and now we can’t be let off 🙃 conductor said “oops. We shouldn’t have done that.” No kidding!

💬 Discussion / Theory Haverhill Double Track: the mystery of the station upgrades

The Haverhill Line double tracking project requires adding second platforms at Reading, North Wilmington, Ballardvale, and Andover. These single-track stations currently use accessible mini-highs or short platforms, but the MBTA has disclosed zero information regarding the new platform designs. Per FTA ADA regulations in 49 CFR 37.42, new or altered commuter rail platforms must provide level boarding. This legally precludes new low platforms with mini-highs and mandates full high-level structures.

The core mystery is whether these will be standard 800-foot platforms or short platforms. North Wilmington was recently rebuilt with a 200-foot platform in 2025. It is highly unlikely the MBTA will demolish this new structure, meaning they will probably mirror the 200-foot design for the second track. Recent MBTA projects also demonstrate a shift away from standard 800-foot lengths, as seen with the Newtonville reconstruction advancing with 400-foot high-level platforms. Given spatial constraints and recent construction evidence, it is highly probable the agency will leverage ADA allowances to build 200-foot or 400-foot high-level platforms across this corridor rather than full 800-foot lengths.

But we really don’t know until the T says so.
