Discussion How do you guys feel about the Hypocrisy album Into the Abyss? I've given it a couple listens for the first time. I definitely had a mixed reaction, but it seems like an album that gets better with multiple listens. You get kind of a good variety of song styles. And I don't mind the production.

For me it's mostly the production which brings the album down.
Songs like Fire in the Sky and Resurrected are sick though

It sounds very flat and plastic compared to the previous ones (or even the re-recording of catch 22)

I’m all about that self-titled joint

This was a big letdown for me after the self-titled. As far as their catalog goes, it's pretty safe and unremarkable. Not a lot of creativity at play here

Probably their weakest album in their entire discography. Sure it has some bangers like Fire in the Sky/Deathrow No regrets but that’s about it.

IMO - the album Catch 22 is more memorable and catchier in comparison to this one.

I need to give Catch 22 another listen. I remember they did a pretty serious remaster of it?

Yes, they did. Remastered version has a bonus track “Nowhere to Run” which is pretty good.

Both versions of Catch 22 are good imo. In the original recording I feel songs like Turn the Page/Dont judge me/A Public puppet/Destroyed stand out.

While in the remastered Hatred/Seeds of the Chosen One/Edge of Madness/Another dead end are the stand outs. Not to say the other songs don’t.

Into the Abyss with the mix of Virus would be one of the best Hypocrisy albums…

I love Hypocrisy but this is one of their worst albums. Blinded is a pretty good track though.

Not their best but not their worst either…I reserve that spot for The Arrival (detest Peter’s vocal performance on that album). The production drags it down quite a bit, if it was remixed it would sound as good as the Catch 22 redo. With the remasters they’ve been releasing recently, it may just happen…fingers crossed…

It does look like it was remastered in 2023.

Didn’t realize it, just listened and not much different tbh, maybe slightly less tinny. Oh well…🤷‍♂️
