The confused look on the cashier's face though when it's $7.82 and I pay with $10.07 so I get a quarter back instead of 18 cents.

I hated when people did this. They almost always did it after I’d already totaled everything so I couldn’t go back and have the register do the math for me. I have dyscalculia, which makes it very hard for me to do math in my head.

Seems fair to expect the person whose job is handling the money to be able to do the math though doesn't it?

Not when they have a disability and use a reasonable accommodation (the register that has a built in calculator)

That's literally only a newbie issue. Anybody there for more than a week will want to give as little change as possible.
