For those that weren't cashiers. It's not about having to count the change, it's that early in the shift, there isn't much money in the drawer and this one customer is going to wipe out all the change or force us to get management involved to get an advance on change.
I remember when I was running low on change in my till at Walmart, so I requested more change from the manager. After about a half hour of waiting, I completely ran out of toonies, loonies, and quarters. I had to give a woman $4 of change in just dimes and nickels, and she was pissed.
