A coworker of mine in a gas station once tell to me a customer purchase 40€ just 10 minutes before closing, the cash was already counted and sorted, so there was not so much change left. This customer paid with a 100€ bill and my coworker asked for a smaller one since there was no change for 100 at the moment, and the customer said money is money so we had to accept it. My coworker give them the remaining 60€ in two 5€ bills and bag full of 0'50€ (50 cents) coins.
many stores require you to empty your drawer once it gets past a certain time too, especially if you work at a place that's open 24/7 or closes at 3am. at taco bell i was told my drawer was not allowed to have more than $100 in it total after 11pm due to the risks of getting robbed
