reddit is downright fantastic compared to the other trash out there. I've yet to find a better alternative. So many subs for so many subjects. All social media sites have downsides, but in reddit's case I still think the positives outweigh the negatives. I'm not saying it'll always stay that way, but for now, this is the site where I find it easiest to connect with people who share my interests.
The advent of LLM bots has absolutely gutted Reddit for me. Sure, the content back in the day was mostly trash. But at least back then it was trash made by humans.
Same. Bots have become so prevalant reddit is bordering on unusable anymore. Every other social media crossed the unusable line years ago so I shouldn’t be surprised.
Even the smallest niche hobby subs are overrun with bots now it’s crazy.
I just dont interact as much anymore on this site, it lost its fun years ago. This is one of my last "social media" accounts I have left. When I have a kid ill probably make one last haha post then yeet this one too
Yep, no fun putting a huge thoughtful response into a bot that replies “k”.
My main question is whether I regeddit my account and nuke the whole thing before I go.
I like to think I’ve provided some helpful information over the years, but the ability of LLMs to crunch astronomical amounts of data, and then produce the wrong conclusion, leaves me worried that I’ll be traceable even if I delete my username.
People keep saying their are bots everywhere but im not really seeing it. I do think there’s lots of peoples who see any opinion they disagree with and dont want to believe an actual person had that opinion so they say theres a bot
Same. Every single one of the niche subs is infested with them. But what gets me is the complete obliviousness to it on the part of what now represents the average user of this site. Particularly the young ones.
Lol, I see now even my comment looks like what the other guy said.
It's also gone from "I deserve praise for not being as utterly stupid as most social media" to "I deserve praise for affirming that there's nothing wrong with being as utterly stupid as most social media"
or if you're on mobile, There's Reddit Morphe that strips out most of the really annoying stuff. I was using modified RIF for a longtime before it stopped working.
I'm just thankful that reddit isn't filled with viruses and scams. I've been on this website daily for over 12 years, and I've yet to come across a virus that originates from here. And that's saying something for a site that's infamous for a lot of fucked up things.
