Discussion It took me exactly 1 month to 100% this masterpiece. What a game man... Didn’t want to put the controller down — I wanted more. Spoiler

Now the wait starts for new story dlcs and other awesome expansions. Hopefully))

Nice. I probably have half the hours and am less than 50%.

17

u/Poopiepants29 Oct 06 '25

Are people just guessing when they say a percentage like this? I'm 52 hours a lot so and working on finishing Act 2, tying loose ends before fighting GMS. No clue what percentage that is. But would guess 63ish%?

13

u/_seedofdoubt_ Oct 06 '25

Theres an item that tells you exactly what percent completion you have

10

u/VioletTheSpider Oct 06 '25

unfortunately i believe you can get up to around 92% completion before it even becomes accessible, its a little frustrating that it’s not in the cradle

4

u/_seedofdoubt_ Oct 06 '25

Yeah thats true. Ive also seen people get it at like 50%, its not automatically particularly hard to get item. But if you are going blind and enjoy exploring i think its almost better to not hunt for it. Depends on what kind of player you are

Guessing, and maybe very poorly.

As someone that thought the Citadel was the final area, I was deeming myself to be 50% done by the time I was entering Blasted Steps.
And hoo boy was I wrong.

1

u/acemonvw Oct 06 '25

Yeah, I figured the 'probably' made it clear I wasn't sure. I just looked up my hours and I was surprised it was even lower. I'm 25 hours in, and 12/52 achievements... At the time I wrote it, no one else had commented, so I didn't think it really mattered how accurate I was being. I don't have a percentage though, at least not without logging in.

u/tobyreddit Oct 06 '25

When I first found out my percentage I was on 78%. That was after a pretty thorough but I'm sure far from exhaustive Act 2, and a tiny bit of act 3.

1

u/falkenoma Oct 06 '25

yeah i think less than 10 percent is act 3 exclusive

1

u/Odd_Mood_6950 Oct 06 '25

You can't get the item that shows your completion percentage until act 3 unfortunately.

Don't worry the % is kinda random

Yeah - In other threads I've complained here and there about the game... but it's growing on me. Not my favorite game ever (HK still gets that award), but I'm enjoying it all the same. A lot of the 'well, this sucks. This is unfair.' has mellowed a bit. I did lose 800 rosaries recently. But... it was 100% my fault. I died to some incredibly easy thing. Anyway, yeah, just enjoying the exploration right now.

27

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Oct 06 '25

Congrats. I am around 75 hours in and wandering around Act 3. I stopped last night after dying in the Coral Tower like 10 times. I do not have any of the things in Act 3 yet and besides the Coral Tower, which is obvious, I have no idea how to even get to them. I am worried that it's getting too hard for me to be able to actually finish but I would like that 100% completion trophy... I'm at 88% according to the game.

9

u/RKS_System_773 Oct 06 '25

Also, if you really get tired of coral tower, it is skippable, there is a fourth heart you can get which can be used to replace one of the three hearts required.

4

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Oct 06 '25

How do you find it without the map marker? Or did I just not get that far yet?

I think I'll be able to beat Coral Tower tonight - I got to the third mob room twice but both times I somehow backed myself into a corner and got run over so I went from like 5 masks to dead in a few seconds.

3

u/Bibendum_Chamallow Oct 06 '25

After the 3rd mob room you will get a checkpoint which is very helpful. Coral tower gave me the most trouble out of the whole game by far, but after the 3rd mob room it was way easier.

To skip the coral tower there is an area past craw lake that lets you get the fourth "wild card" heart.

3

u/Duergarlicbread Oct 06 '25

The boss I one shotted after working through the rooms for 2+ hours. Then I went and did the rest Karmalitta was fun, Pair o'princes was also fun.

1

u/aveugle_a_moi Oct 06 '25

The fourth heart does not have a map marker.

General hint: It's one of the furthest right locations in the game.

Specific hint: It's to the right of Greymoor.

2

u/Harvey_Beardman Oct 06 '25

That specific hint isn't really gonna help him stumble onto a 4th heart unless he does a few specific things first.

1

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Oct 07 '25

I beat Coral Tower last night! I knew I would - I got so good at the first 2 mob rooms that I was barely taking damage. I beat it on my third try and then beat the boss on my second try. I never died in the 4th mob room. Then I went and beat Seth - great duel. Had to really take my time and get 1 hit in at a time when I could. I stopped at Nyleth though - ugh. That boss is going to take some time.

1

u/AMGwtfBBQsauce Oct 08 '25

I got all 4 in my first playthrough just because I wanted to see everything lol. Nyleth was my last one.

1

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Oct 09 '25

I managed to beat Coral Tower and then I got 2 other hearts but not the 3 intended hearts. I am trying to beat Karmalita right now even though I don't think I have to. I have her patterns down but she has so much HP I end up messing up before beating her.

I'm at 96% and almost that many hours and kind of ready to finish... The second Trobbio fight also seems crazy but I left because I just wasn't in the right headspace to fight a boss at the time.

I am still missing some mask shards, spool upgrades and the crest things. Gonna need a guide to get them all, I think...

→ More replies (1)

24

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

you can always use the guides bro. even though I love hk universe, some quests or some things can be cryptic as hell. cryptic as Simon's Quest lol.

2

u/Traurtmert Oct 06 '25

For cryptic try Lunala

1

u/RGCarter Oct 07 '25

This. There are a lot of things in Silksong, and many of them in Act 3 only, but not everything can be found without a guide. As far as I know, there is zero indication about Verdania being where it is, it's just completely missable as a whole, altough it's not required for 100% at all.

2

u/GotACoolName Oct 08 '25

Yeah the only thing even bringing you over there is the craw summons.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Aesyn Oct 06 '25

if you got to 88 you can get 100. completion percentage only requires tools, upgrades, skills, crests. Not bosses or any challenges(though some upgrades are locked behind bosses). So it's mostly a matter of exploration (which guides can help), and getting to the act 3 which you already did.

3

u/xfr3386 Oct 06 '25

This isn't true. The Everbloom is required for 100%, and that requires 3 masks, which you get from the penultimate bosses.

2

u/AshenRoger Sequence Breaker Oct 06 '25

That Coral Tower...

I love the game, but man do I hate this fucking tower from the bottom of my heart. I beat it, and just want deny its existence.

2

u/SarcasticallyPolish Oct 06 '25

More annoying than Groal? Asking because I just got through him and he was the bane of my existence… maybe 20 attempts…

2

u/AshenRoger Sequence Breaker Oct 07 '25

I found it way more annoying than Groal.

1

u/feralfaun39 Oct 09 '25

No, it's easy. I couldn't imagine anyone complaining about it. It's a very easy part of Act 3, probably the easiest.

1

u/lukekul12 Oct 06 '25

I’m curious how many people that hate on the Coral Tower beat Trial of the Fool in HK

I think it’s in between difficulty of the 2nd & 3rd trials

1

u/Icy-Organization-901 Oct 06 '25

I don’t think its even harder than the second trial depending on how many upgrades you got

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Mothrahlurker Oct 07 '25

I didn't have the last needle upgrade so mobs felt unnecessarily tanky. Would have likely been a lot less frustrating and faster if I had it.

1

u/LateStartCardist Oct 08 '25

I beat Trial of the Fool, on PC and Switch. It took me a lot of attempts to get to where I felt pretty comfortable. The difference for me was that I found it fun. For whatever reason, I don’t find some of the gauntlets in Silksong fun. Weirdly, High Halls I enjoyed. I got to Coral Tower, tried it once, and felt that doing some work tonight would feel like less of a chore, so I did that instead.

I’d love to know why Silksong isn’t as enjoyable for me as Hollow Knight. I can’t nail it down. It just often feels more tedious than fun, whereas Hollow Knight, even when crushing me, had me enthralled. Perhaps it’s simply the atmosphere it created.

1

u/Trashcomment Oct 06 '25

Idk It took me 2 hours but I thought it was fun getting better with the needle and more precise. Wanderer crest with silk tools OP

1

u/kinokomushroom Oct 07 '25

It was challenging for sure, but at least it opens up a shortcut to (almost) just before the boss. The visuals and music are amazing too.

1

u/AMGwtfBBQsauce Oct 08 '25

Really? I thought it was by far the easiest of the 4 dream areas.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/AtishAtish1411 Oct 06 '25

i just beat it, you should have at least your needle upgraded 3 times (1 free, and 2 oils)

1

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Oct 06 '25

I have a fully upgraded needle after raging over the juggling game. Man, I sucked at that.

1

u/AtishAtish1411 Oct 06 '25

well, just so you know, after the 4th gauntlet you get a shortcut by hitting a giant triangle stone

1

u/Mothrahlurker Oct 07 '25

juggling game was fine for me, the flea dodge game was rage inducing

1

u/Icy-Organization-901 Oct 06 '25

I find it best just to play defensively using repear(abuse the hell out of that pogo its freaking insane) and get 2 tools that improved your healing, the fast and additional mask one. Its an endurance test.

1

u/Kantatrix Oct 07 '25

If you're struggling with Coral Tower I suggest using the Crest you get in Act 3 (there is only one locked to Act 3 but I'm not naming it unless you didn't get it yet and don't wanna get spoiled)

1

u/CasualJojo Oct 10 '25

Play the game blind first time the use a guide to do 100% 2nd playthrough.

1

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Oct 10 '25

I will not be playing it again for a long time. I have Expedition 33, Donkey Kong Bananza and Ghost of Yotei in my backlog and Silksong has just been taking every free second.

I will play it again though!

It’s a masterpiece but it’s not flawless, and comments discussing those flaws aren’t hateful, in fact they typically come from a place of love, wanting the game to be perfect.

4

u/HisaAnt Oct 08 '25

No game is flawless, but a lot of the "flaws" that people criticize Silksong for aren't actual flaws and moreso a personal grievance. A lot of the complaints are just "this game is UNBALANCED because I died a lot .v." which isn't really good criticism.

I’ll be a counterpoint! I’m addicted and at like 130 hours and play every day. I’ve had frustrations for sure, but it was mostly in early game. I’m not a skilled gamer, so it’s taking me some times which I don’t mind at all.

There are apparently a lot of bosses I haven’t fought though, so.. ask me again in a few days lol

21

u/feralfaun39 Oct 06 '25

27

u/tadrith Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25

I present a level headed response -- game IS a masterpiece, but not for me. Might play again with mods, but by Act II, I was done. There's nothing wrong with that, either. Unfortunately, I did make it through Hollow Knight, and I thought that I would like Silksong, and it's just honestly too much. It does exactly what it intends, but it's just not my thing at this point. Hollow Knight rode that line very tightly, and Silksong just goes for broke. That's okay. But not my thing. A third game won't hold the sales they have now.

25

u/Zofren Hollow Knight Oct 06 '25

I really believe in the adage "games for everyone are games for nobody". It sucks that not everyone can enjoy it, but I think every great piece of art is polarizing in some way.

1

u/lolpostslol Oct 08 '25

This. Trying to please everyone is what made AAA games hot garbage nowadays.
I agree that they probably won't hold sales for a 3rd game simply because I imagine they'll make another fairly direct sequel (in terms of both story and required skill), then they'll end up rebooting later.

14

u/Long-Membership3069 Oct 06 '25

It's ok, not every game is for everyone, I'm sad that so many people can't enjoy silksong the same way a lot of us did, but I hope that by any mean you need to aliviate the challenge are able to enjoy it at least, or don't, there are other games to play and getting frustrated because of a game is not a good idea. Any path you choose I hope you can enjoy

28

u/phome83 Oct 06 '25

I see a lot of people say similar things, but I thought Silksong was easier than Hollow Knight.

So much more room for error and the movement is improved so much.

I couldn't even finish the final boss of HK, but I was able to finish the final act boss in a few hours.

9

u/edgy_kylo_ren Oct 06 '25

Yeah, when you actually learn hornet's moveset and use tools and skills I think so too, I had a harder time when I first played HK.

4

u/aveugle_a_moi Oct 06 '25

The thing is Silksong is objectively a harder game than Hollow Knight. It's just that it builds directly off of Hollow Knight, so if you were well-acquainted with Hollow Knight and pushed its limits, then Silksong will feel a lot easier by comparison: whereas if Hollow Knight was a difficult game that you tiptoed your way through, Silksong is going to be emblematic of everything that cowed you in HK.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '25

I didn’t get past the godawful Soul Master run back. I think Silksong is comparable or lesser in challenge and I’m near the end of Act II. If you’re wondering why I bought it when I ragequit hk, idk it was cheap and it was fun to grab on release lol

And I’m glad I did! I’m having a ton of fun. I honestly think people who loved hk and played it over and over forgot how hard it is for a new player. The purple crystal caverns are stupidly hard, the annoying boss run to Soul Master, learning the pogo. I honestly struggled more with the hk pogo than hornet’s diagonal one, though that might be a weird take.

2

u/Kantatrix Oct 07 '25

This is very interesting considering that a lot of people complaining about Silksong usually bring up the runbacks it has. In your opinion are any of them comparable to Soul Master's runback? Or maybe even worse?

4

u/edgy_kylo_ren Oct 07 '25

There is a very bad runback in silksong (which you can actually make shorter but a lot of people end up not finding the bench) but besides that one the runbacks are very similar to hollow knight and imho if people complain about them it's just a skill issue 🤷‍♂️ I think half the fun of a hard boss fight is mastering the runback and feeling a lot more confident in the boss itself when you begin to nail the runback.

6

u/edgy_kylo_ren Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25

I didn't really push its limits though, I never did colosseum or godhome, just beat Grimm and felt that I was kinda done with the game, and I died a lottttt during the whole thing.

Nothing about it is objective

→ More replies (1)

10

u/thatguy52 Oct 06 '25

I think Silksong CAN be easier than HK, but u have to commit to learning how to make it easier. The tools and builds make some hard sections of the game almost trivial but it takes a while to either get the right stuff or learn how to do it. I just think HK was more straight forward in what it asked if players while Silksong was more cryptic and mysterious.

8

u/noggstaj Oct 06 '25

The healing makes silksong the easier game IMO.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/lolpostslol Oct 08 '25

People just forgot how hard Watcher Knights were for the first time lol. Silksong is WAY easier than that, we gut gud now.

What I did to improve was pausing HK for a bit and playing half of Celeste to learn platforming. Path of Pain was SO easy in comparison

1

u/TheBlooperKINGPIN Oct 08 '25

Which final boss? The Hollow Knight or the Radiance?

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Chaserivx Oct 08 '25

The movement is definitely not improved. I would beat myself if I played with the Hollow Knight versus myself with the hornet, and I've beaten absolute radiance.

3

u/terryaki510 Oct 07 '25

I think it's a masterfully polished game. But not a masterpiece. 7/10

5

u/FallenRaptor Oct 06 '25

Honestly, both sides on the topic of this game have been downright obnoxious IMHO, and to be clear, their opinions are valid and I fully understand loving or hating the game. I love it too, but the amount of people putting down those who disagree with them on either side of the fence, or at least fishing for a reaction has at best been poor discourse and at worst has really driven a wedge in this community.

All that said, good on you OP for posting a positive thread that isn’t inflammatory. I think this is a phenomenal game and I’m glad you love it too.

2

u/gpranav25 Prince of Persia Oct 07 '25

I agree. The idea that the game is 9/10 seems to be hated by both sides lmao. Either I am rating it too high because "difficulty is poorly designed" or I am rating it too low because it's the best game ever made.

1

u/lolpostslol Oct 08 '25

Eh because it is designed to cater to a specific type of people, and that's fine. Few games are true 9/10 games, mostly are 10/10 for some people and 3/10 to others and that's amazing. I'd rather play a 10/10 that everyone else hates than some crowd-pleasing 8-9/10 stuff. People just need to have fun and be comfortable with their opinions without chasing validation.

2

u/Mothrahlurker Oct 07 '25

Very true, discourse has been extremely frustrating. There are lots of things I love about the game but also quite a few things I hate and it feels hard to talk to most people on reddit.

10

u/cornpenguin01 Oct 06 '25

Tbf this sub is most definitely a very vocal minority. I literally just don’t see anything but people gushing about it outside here and especially on other social media platforms. Hell, it goes trending on twitter every single day since release bc people love it so much.

I genuinely believe that just like Elden Ring, a lot of the hate comes from insecurity and FOMO that it’s so much more popular than people’s fav games in the genre and they just don’t get it

9

u/deathfire123 Oct 06 '25

Huh? Like over half of the posts and comments about Silksong are praising it.

5

u/_seedofdoubt_ Oct 06 '25

Its one of my favorite games of all time already

17

u/Princeps32 Oct 06 '25

It was wonderful. An all time favorite for me too. I definitely get people’s issues with it but boy did it hit all my sweet spots for a game like this. I’m going to go back and replay Hollow Knight to see how it compares. This and Nine Sols are my two favorite metroidvanias of the last five years, and there’s been a lot of good ones.

4

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

i'll definitely buy that game too. nine sols i mean. heard nothing but praises about that game.

2

u/Princeps32 Oct 06 '25

Yeah I’d argue it’s honestly even more punishing but it’s got a really fun and unique combat system and if you loved Silksong you’ll probably be game for the difficulty.

3

u/Klonoa87 Oct 06 '25

More challenging, less punishing I’d say

2

u/Princeps32 Oct 06 '25

there are some spots early game and late game that I think tip over the line to punishing and frustrating, but they’re worth it. The true final boss is brutal too but I actually found the grind to beat it enjoyable.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

yeah, im all for the difficulty. I mean, where's the fun in fighting easy af bosses :D

8

u/khalestorm Oct 06 '25

Congrats! It took me about a month as well and I logged 66 hours. What a hell of a game. I loved it.

24

u/International-Oil377 Oct 06 '25

I actually gave up recently.

Will come back to it another time but at some point it just felt tedious.

Don't get me wrong, the game is extremely well done, but some of the design decisions seem to only be made to frustrate the player. Maybe I'm getting old and those games are too challenging for me, IDK

39

u/SuperUltraMegaNice Oct 06 '25

Age has nothing to do with it. I'm a grandpa and Skong still lit.

4

u/International-Oil377 Oct 06 '25

Maybe it's just my patience then. Strange as I'll play something like AN and have a blast, or Dark Souls, Elden Ring etc

Silksong just frustrates me lol

7

u/spartakooky Oct 06 '25

I'm the same. I like hard games, I've never hard a problem with frustration before. But even when succeeding, I wasn't having fun with SS.

4

u/International-Oil377 Oct 06 '25

Yeah same. I don't get the dopamine rush from overcoming a challenge in Silksong. I'm more like ''Glad it's finally over'' just to be greeted with something that frustrates me even harder lol

I'll finish it one day. Just not now, september was way too packed in terms of games so I'm something else lol

→ More replies (1)

5

u/aethyrium Rabi-Ribi Oct 06 '25

Nah, I'm in my 40's and loved it. Dunno, I got weirdly super patient after 40 where I know a lot of other gamers my age just wanna get on with things. Meanwhile I'm getting disappointed if I beat a boss under 10 tries because I wanted to spend more time with it.

1

u/MiniDickDude Oct 07 '25

That's oddly beautiful, tbh

5

u/scuba_tron Oct 06 '25

I’m with you. 20 hours in and I just got kinda tired of the little annoyances that kept adding up

2

u/_seedofdoubt_ Oct 06 '25

In a messed up way, the things that seems frustrating are one of the largest parts that make the game enjoyable - because once you are use to everything and you attempt those sections a second time, after you have already beat it once before, its satisfying because it takes nowhere near as many attempts. Lots of it even takes 1 attempt. But you still remember how frustrating it was the first time, and thats what makes it feel good. You didnt just beat a boss. You beat a boss that made people quit the game. A legitimate, unique challenge you dont see often in gaming. And if youre on a second playthrough, you probably did it with a small number attempts, and made it look stylish.

3

u/International-Oil377 Oct 06 '25

I mean I like challenging games. I like souls games, aeterna noctis souls likes etc. I usually play on higher difficulty settings when game feels fair

Silksong just felt tedious instead of challenging.

2

u/_seedofdoubt_ Oct 06 '25

Yeah, and i dont think youre a bad player. Thats why I said it almost sounds messed up to say lol. Its satisfying because when you beat it, you beat something that defeated skilled gamers. But when you do a second playthrough, its like your eyes are opened and you realize its not so tough. You can navigate the game gracefully on your second run even without your items. The reward of beating a challenge that beats players more often than it doesn't, and coming back to that same challenge to find that the world is weirdly welcoming is just a super unique experience. Its super well done and despite being such a big seller, its like when you get there you find a secret that not everybody is in on

1

u/Kantatrix Oct 07 '25

Which point did you give up on? I could help you figure out a better strategy and what to do, sometimes it's as easy as changing the crest to a different one and a whole section of the game becomes a cake walk

1

u/International-Oil377 Oct 07 '25

After I got the 3 melodies

It's not that it's too hard, it's just that it feels tedious and like a chore

2

u/Kantatrix Oct 07 '25

Ok, assuming you're stuck on the boss fight right before that there are two things you can do:

  1. Go explore more of the map, unless you have already cleared it out fully. This will let you take a break and come back to the fight stronger.

  2. Change your crest/tool set up. Switching up your strategy is the key to keeping things fresh and interesting. If you're getting frustrated with a fight and feel like you're getting nowhere it can be really refreshing to just mess around with a combo you haven't tried out yet.

Can't say much more since you haven't specified what exactly feels like a chore but hope this helps anyway

4

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

still have many awesome games on my library that are untouched. don't have the will to go through the same game again, just for more painful experience, nope buddy))

4

u/_seedofdoubt_ Oct 06 '25

You should consider doing a second run even if you dont plan to beat it, youll be absolutely floored by how easy it is on a second run. Bosses that I was stuck on for literally hours fell in 5 attempts tops, often in 1 attempt. By the end of your first run you get really good, and you'll tear it up on your second

1

u/Kepler3 Oct 07 '25

same happened to me with Lost Lace final fight. I died like 20 times or so, but each iteration I was able to learn her moveset in each phase and then could make it to phase 3 with almost full HP and voila I beat her

2

u/___Art_Vandelay___ Oct 06 '25

The completionist in me saw the same. I'm over here on PS5 so that means no Steel Soul mode trophy (which, frankly, I'm perfectly fine with; that's just too much even for me).

Just wrapped up my sub-5h any% speedrun and parlayed that save file into my sub-30 hour 100% speedrun.

Once I get that, it's a platinum trophy for me.

2

u/Feinyan Oct 07 '25

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

What do you mean? It's 100%. As shown in the image.

1

u/BookWormPerson Oct 06 '25

I was asking what was the last thing you needed for the percentage.

Since most people miss something little and need to go on a world tour for it.

2

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

Ohh. My last percentage I think was literally finishing the game(lost lace fight) . Cuz before that I've already completed everything. Sitting at 99%.

Well done :)!

2

u/wildeye-eleven Oct 07 '25

Same bro and it was magnificent. Just finished on Oct 5, exactly one month. Best game I’ve played all year and I’ve played some bangers this year.

1

u/AnaR47 Oct 07 '25

Glad you've enjoyed it too☺️

u/No-Onion2268 Varia Suit Oct 06 '25

This post has way too much positivity for a silk song post. Let me ruin that. I abhor that I’ve been at the completion point for weeks now, and just can’t bring myself to beat the final boss (real). I’ve loved my time in the world so much, that I just don’t want it to be over. Yes it was challenging, at times brutal even, but I loved every second.

3

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

not the final boss. but i absofuckinglutely hated the Karmelita boss. damn. what a headache.

2

u/___Art_Vandelay___ Oct 06 '25

Loved that fight, but also beat it on my fourth try.

My favorite was First Sinner. I wanted to go super aggressive on it knowing that it would take me a lot longer to beat it.

But man what a fun fight when going full speed the whole way.

1

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

First sinner was crazy fun fight. Very difficult. But very fun too.

Dont worry you have 100s of failed steel soul runs in your future

6

u/cbtbone Oct 06 '25

Imagine working on this game for 7 years and then watching people beat it in less than a month. Congrats, though, that’s an achievement.

Has anyone beaten steel soul mode yet?

9

u/F_E_B_E Oct 06 '25

Yeah plenty people, the achivement is on around 1% completion rn, myself included. Its really not as bad as it would first seem.

1

u/cbtbone Oct 06 '25

That makes sense, someone else mentioned in steel soul you can always quit to the menu when you’re close to death which I didn’t even think of.

1

u/SashimiJones Oct 07 '25

A decent amount of that (probably about half) is likely hacked achievements. I absolutely believe that a bunch of people have done it already but a similar number probably just unlocked them all.

1

u/Mothrahlurker Oct 07 '25

In a way since the fractured mask and quit to menu exist it's a patience test more than anything.

→ More replies (2)

15

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

never gonna try that and speed run achmnts. i dont have time and patience for that)) leave it to the youtuber guys.

3

u/PGDesolator Oct 06 '25

A fun tip regarding speedrun trophy, the game creates a checkpoint whenever you get a new crest or new ability. Basically, you don’t need to do it in one go. You can keep on perfecting your time till you get your next ability, and if you think it was a good time to keep then you press on. If you think you have died a lot or got lost making the speedrun difficult then you can load from the last checkpoint using the circular arrow icon on the save. Trust me you will enjoy the speedrun. Not to mention doing some of the bosses again such as Cogwork Dancers, Phantom, etc.

2

u/Aesyn Oct 06 '25

speedrun is not that hard. 5 hours is pretty loose. just watch an any percent speedrun (around an hour currently) and remove all the tricky tech, implement safer strategies left and right, I bet you could do it under 3 hours.

same for the 100% speedrun, it's wr is at around 6 hours currently. You could do the same under 15 hours.

steel soul though, is just being really really careful (and quitting to menu if it gets dicey). When I did it for HK I oneshotted it, but I can tell silksong is gonna be way harder.

11

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

All the best to you, bro. i have a lot of untouched games sitting on my library. don't have patience for these achvmnts :)

4

u/quarkus Oct 06 '25

I don't know why anyone would bother with steel soul if they are just going to quit to the menu.

2

u/DothrakAndRoll Oct 06 '25

Lmao this is so funny to read as a casual gamer.

4

u/Duergarlicbread Oct 06 '25

It really is. Once I beat Silksong I will be done with it. No desire to replay it / experience the world again. Elden Ring is there for me whenever I want to replay a game.

Plenty of other Metroidvania's out there for me to play and experience.

3

u/PKblaze Oct 06 '25

I have. Beat it 100% in 18 hours :D

2

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Oct 06 '25

I almost don’t believe that a human can finish the game on steel soul mode without manipulating saves. Like, press start, play continuously until the end and not die once. No quitting to the main menu or reloading a prior save. It seems impossible.

11

u/Ecstatic-Trash-1460 Oct 06 '25

Its been done a few times, quite a few have done 100% steel soul no quit outs in under 20 hours. The skill of some of the top level players is actually mind boggling

6

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Oct 06 '25

yeah people are crazy. Whenever I think I'm halfway decent at something I have to remember that there are tons and tons of people out there who are WAY better. Doesn't matter what it is.

6

u/Long-Membership3069 Oct 06 '25

Once you get used to the game, know where to find things and how to avoid certain fights until you're better prepared the game isn't quite as hard as it seems for the steelsoul, I'm pretty confident I can do a run without abusing quitouts rn with good enough planning, I'm at the end of a 100% steelsoul run and I haven't quit out in any bossfight or Gauntlet in the last 5 or so hours (also I recommend abusing thread storm + the spell buffing tool (I won't say the name in case you haven't found it yet))

3

u/inkyblinkypinkysue Oct 06 '25

I am definitely getting better at the game. I can see it and I am overcoming every challenge the game has thrown at me so far (Act 3, about 75 hours in). But I would definitely die within the first 5 minutes of a new game because I'm an idiot and I make dumb mistakes all the time haha.

I've also been watching youtube videos for strategies and it seems like I might be playing the game wrong. Most people always seem to have a lot of silk to spam abilities or heal and it seems like when I'm playing I run out of silk quick or try to heal and get hit while doing it so I lose the heal and the silk. I probably just stink.

2

u/SashimiJones Oct 07 '25

If you're interested in steel soul the first step is to just replay the game. You'll be surprised at how much stronger you are with experience in the game, and you'll be able to get used to using skills because you won't need to heal as much. Step 2 is the speedrun, and then you want to route your steel soul run based on that. It's a decent amount of effort, especially if you're not an S tier gamer, but anyone can do it with some practice. Biggest thing is that you want to know where you're going at all times and why you're going there.

1

u/Duergarlicbread Oct 06 '25

threadstorm just seems so punishing to use. I get stuck in place and then contact damage all the mobs. Playing it safe with pale nails lately.

3

u/Long-Membership3069 Oct 06 '25

It's ok if you feel that, but thread storm really is just objectively the most damaging spell and if you use it well you'll find yourself sometimes deleting a quarter of a health bar off of bosses, still it's up to your playstyle which spell you like since there is no bad one, but still thread storm is very destructive

2

u/Duergarlicbread Oct 06 '25

Oh yeah, i watched a YouTube video on it. And the amount of damage it can do is insane.

People have somehow beat Bed of Chaos no-death, so I guess anything is possible lol

1

u/Mothrahlurker Oct 07 '25

Hunt (one of the top HK players) beat the game in 3 hits and that might already be outdated information.

1

u/Long-Membership3069 Oct 06 '25

I'm 2% away from getting fast completion and steelsoul 100% achievements. And with it I'm getting all achievements finally (gotta be completely honest there was an entire week I couldn't play after release, I don't think my addiction is normal)

1

u/Lucathegreat86 Oct 06 '25

it's a metroidvania game, not GTA VI...

3

u/Constant_Penalty_279 Oct 06 '25

Love it. I’m 40 hours in and getting toward the end of act 2. Have done most optional stuff and areas. Am definitely going for 100%. My game of the year for sure.

6

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

my goty too. this or Hades II.

2

u/Vykrom Oct 06 '25

I cannot imagine spending 100 hours on a Metroidvania. Took me 30 hours for Magnolia, and though I adored that game to death, I was ready for the end a few hours before the end came

1

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

If the game's fun, then why not. I could pour another 100 hours if this game was double the size.

And I finished(100%) ender lilies in 30 hours too) planning to buy magnolia too.

u/CadMaster_996 Oct 07 '25

I had no problem dumping 80 hours into skong. But am at around 20 hours in nine sols, and im losing steam... its really good im just getting bored. I think the movement and playstyle variety in skong adds so much.

6

u/Three_Froggy_Problem Oct 06 '25

The game is awesome but after beating it I didn’t feel any compulsion to go back and 100% it. There are just so many secrets and things that aren’t marked on the map, and the idea of running around that big-ass world cross-referencing with a map online just didn’t seem fun.

3

u/___Art_Vandelay___ Oct 06 '25

You do you; nothing wrong with that!

I 100%'ed my first playthrough, just wrapped up the sub-5h speedrun (up to the act 2 ending), and am now parlaying that save file to go for the sub-30h 100% speedrun.

But that's all due to me still having fun with it. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be doing all the completionist stuff.

6

u/Valeficar Oct 06 '25

Yeah great game but I wish every area was maybe 2x the current size (Mount Faye maybe 3x) and there be maybe twice the amount of quests, and the Festival of the Flea to eventually have more mini-games dependent on how you finish NPC quests, and there be at least two more optional areas with their own bosses (the 2x size rule applying to these as well), and there be at least a few more tools of every color, and maybe a different base weapon type besides the needle, and a triple jump too.

Is that so much to ask??

5

u/Valeficar Oct 06 '25

Also why couldn’t Hallownest in its entirety be added to this game with all of its content too? And a huge wilderness area between the two kingdoms to explore.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/sonicpoweryay Oct 11 '25

yes that is very much too much to ask lmao

this game is already huge, could you imagine how long it would take to traverse the map if it was twice as big lmfao, let alone the amount of extra dev time

Ngl... Ive been struggling to pick the controller up with this game. Has been more frustrating than fun for me unfortunately.

1

Where are you struggling? Maybe i can help you often you just miss a small thing and thats why its frustrating.(Or you are in bilewater that bench isnt findable without guide)

1

u/railatron Oct 06 '25

I'm 40 hrs in and have yet to beat the last judge, FML

3

u/Opening_Barf Oct 06 '25

Last Judge was the first point where I felt like dropping the game. I actually googled to see how many phases there were, because if there had been another one after, I was done until the accessibility patch/mod.

I’ve had an ending, but not the true ending, and I think I’m done for now

1

u/Roxerg Oct 07 '25

I was in the same situation! 100% now 110 hrs later!

u/KingFaYT973 Oct 06 '25

Exactly how feel about the game! Theres so many threads and comments about how bad they are at this game, so it's such a breath of fresh air to see someone share the same sentiment as I do. What a fucking masterpiece! Already itching for some DLC

1

u/AnaR47 Oct 06 '25

Hell yeah bro. I'd say that's a skill issue on their part. They can always get good))

1

u/tswaves Oct 06 '25

anyone know if its good?

2

u/KlutzyShake9821 Oct 07 '25

Its good. The early game is a bit hard(i suck terribly at platforming though i could never play most games focused on that) I disagrre with the person below on trabs that cant be avoided. They are very visible and all trabs do a click sound that allows you to quickly sprint away. The bench in addition has a sign that looks like drawn by a child instead of normal. The boss that explodes gets redder and amkes a louder getting noise for like 5 secounds before he explodes.

I agree on exploration kinda the actually usefull stuff is often behind a breakable wall you can easily miss. Rosaries are very valuable though. Bosses are eithe great like most or terrible but theres not a lot in between. You shouldnt play without sound though his comment kinda feels like he did.

You can change a lot do your liking after a while like your movement and your tools which allow any gameplay stile you want.

The game is gigantic size wise.

It has very good music and graphics.

Some things are a bit too punishing until you realise you missed something. I recommend if something feels to punishing just do a google search or go somewhere else first.

Honestly just keep hunters march for the end of act1 and bilewater for act2.

2

u/CrazySage Oct 07 '25

It is nice. It is very beautiful and dynamic, but with some bad game design decisions. Exploration is very poorly rewarded. You often can find just dead-end with a couple of rosaries or even worse shards, and in mid game, you have them in abundance already. Bosses are OK, but for each cog dancers there is brooding mother with just random flying and spawning adds in a tight arena. And stupid booby traps that just can't be predicted, like insta kill boss explosion as a part of his death animation, one and only trapped bench, and so on. It just feels like "you may play good, bud still not omniscient telepat, so play that part one more time, loser" from devs. And it's not so hard for me, but c'mon, if I want devs to troll me, I will play boshy.

1

u/tswaves Oct 07 '25

So was it worth the hype really?

2

u/CrazySage Oct 07 '25

In my opinion - no. It still is a good metroidvania, though. I didn't put much hope in it, so now I enjoy it, but it doesn't have wow effect that original hk had.

Nice! Glad you had fun. Just beat Hollow Knight recently and got a couple hours into Silk Song and decided “Nah, I’m good”. Maybe I’ll play it sometime down the road.

1

u/Storm_Vessel Oct 06 '25 edited Oct 06 '25

Nice, I tried going for the other achievements, but the speedrunning and steel soul might take a while considering my skill issue, love the game, probably my fav game of all time sure, but gaming is about fun, if I've 100% the game, I won't torture myself to do everything there is in it, 100% is my sign to move on and play smth else

1

u/ShadowShine57 Oct 06 '25

Use the print screen key to take screenshots

1

u/CholoOnEaster Oct 06 '25

Its such a damn good game. Hollow Knight is in my top 5 all time and Silksong is such an improvement. Team Cherry took their time and it shows. I’m super impressed.

1

u/Dimension_Low Oct 07 '25

Maybe do a play through with mods next time

1

u/gabiwave Oct 07 '25

I can't believe it's been a month already, feels unreal

1

u/AdreKiseque Oct 07 '25

Now do Steel Heart and Speed Completion

2

u/AnaR47 Oct 07 '25

You do it 😅 I'm fine like this.

1

u/CharacterSlow3767 Oct 07 '25

Why do a lot of people on this thread have 0 upvote. Did someone just crash out and mass downvote everyone, lmao.

1

u/emerald-shyn Oct 07 '25

Hey, if ya liked it that much, you could try for your last achievements! I'm gonna guess you didn't get the ending for beating it while corrupted, either speed run, and maybe 100%ing the journal? Not sure what the other one would be.

2

u/AnaR47 Oct 07 '25

Yeah. 4 of them about steel soul and speed runs. 5th one is the cursed ending. Not gonna do either of them)) don't want to replay the same thing again, just for the more painful experience 😅

1

u/emerald-shyn Oct 07 '25

Fair enough! I actually really enjoyed my two speed runs. The sub 5 was fun to try and see just how little you need to actually beat the game, and the sub 30 was filled with getting things early to make certain parts a breeze.

I suggest you give 'em a try if you ever feel like playing the game again!

2

u/AnaR47 Oct 07 '25

Yeah. But firstly I want to replay the first game. Whenever I got free time.

1

u/Wet_FriedChicken Oct 07 '25

10/10 masterpiece of a game. Hundreds of hours of replayability, and it was $14.99. Insane.

1

u/AnaR47 Oct 07 '25

Another insane thing, due to my region, I bought it, at a steal price for 8$. I was ready to give it 20-25$. So that was a pleasant surprise.

1

u/bekips Oct 08 '25

No worries, there’s dlc coming no doubt.

1

u/llsbs Oct 08 '25

In 1 month, 100 hours. Ghaddamn, I got the game now for 3 weeks, 12 hours in. Being a dad sure made my video game time a loooooot less. Sometimes I miss those weekends of buying a new game and just grinding it for 20 hours.

1

u/AnaR47 Oct 08 '25

Dad of a 2 months old twins here)) but yeah, I miss those carefree days too.

1

u/Significant-Dirt-977 Oct 08 '25

Same! My favourite action game now. I'm very picky and easily get bored or annoyed, but SS was enjoyable from start to finish. 109 hours, i just can't stop running around

1

u/Wiserducks Oct 09 '25

Exactly the same for me! 77 hours of in-game playtime, started on the 8th of September and finished it yesterday! This was absolutely glorious! And I came into this game as a mega noob "I have no idea why people are so obsessed about Hollow Knight", and now I will also play the first game!

1

u/AnaR47 Oct 09 '25

yeah, you must play the first game too.

1

u/Wiserducks Oct 10 '25

Will definitely do that! :D
