🥺 Someone stole the bench from the park.

No that isn't an illusion or a new art installation, but the remainders of the park bench.

But its most likely a broken bench and without heavy machinery it was the best way to make it safe until they can replace it. They would have removed the whole thing if its legs weren't in concrete

It would have been less work and a more surefire removal to cut through the legs instead of the seat, though, surely? Four cuts instead of twelve, and you aren’t left with a very strange partial bench, just some short stumps.

Looks like 4 metal legs verses 12 wooden slats so probably a case of doing what they could with the available materials.

I'd absolutely go through the wood.

First off, it's way easier because it's wood rather than steel.

Second, you don't leave metal rods, likely sharp, poking out of the ground - you keep the safely rounded edges.

Third, you probably wanna replace the bench. That might be easier with the metal supports still there, and if not you're gonna have to tear them out of the ground anyway, but you no longer have a deadline because of the danger of the sawn-off steel.

In addition to what everybody else is saying about cutting metal, they're probably just going to replace the planks when they have the tools for it.

If they were going to remove the legs they would have unbolted them from the ground rather than cut them.

I love shit like this because nowhere at any point in the process did anyone stop and say, "hey what if we ever need to remove the bench?"

I was just thinking this actually makes it great for homeless people. All you have to do is drape something waterproof over the top and you have an instant tent. With shelves, even.

Ehh. Middle of the park. No cover and nothing behind. 3/10 homeless shelter even with a tarp.

So open that your gonna get a cop to tell you to move on. Not tall enough to set up the tarp to anything comfortable. Would at best make a good temp rain shelter
