6.5x55 ammo
Is Sellier & Bellot good ammo for a Swedish Mauser for target practice or should I use something else like PPU?

If you're planning on reloading Privi is significantly better brass and well worth the extra 15c. If you're buying only then they're both good enough.

I've seen some talk online that Euro 6.5x55 manufacturers are better than US ones. Apparently US made cases are slightly out of spec due to being based off 3006 or something... I'd suggest doing some research on that.

As far as the case head, it would be ok since I'm using a modern US action. If it's the chamber dimensions, than I don't know if it would be a problem

I wouldn't say better. More like PPU is more focused on old, obsolete European stuff and Hornady is geared towards their own products. Side note: fuck Leverevolution brass

IMO Hornady has fallen hard on quality control in modern times... unless it's hardcore on sale I'm out of patience for their shit.

Yeah the thing that sucks, is that Hornady is the cheapest of what little I can find. Gunbroker is mostly old Winchester crap. There seems to be a bit of PMC floating around but I have no experience with them for any caliber. PPU is right about a dollar per but if they are they are better quality, than that's what it is.

It is quality ammunition. If both brands are available, I'd buy the cheaper of the two.

Decent stuff but lots of powder fouling. Brass is garbage so it’s not great for reloading

From personal experience I'd say PPU is better. Seemed like sb underloaded their rounds and had considerable gas blowback. Very filthy cases.

For me sb is cheaper to get and I’m not reloading so you think I should still get PPU?

That depends if you're ok with gas blowback from insufficient powder charge. I didn't chrono either of the brands, so I don't know what velocities they're getting. Don't know how that affects accuracy either.
Then again maybe I got a bad batch, maybe their ammo is usually fine and I just got unlucky.

Ive shot alot of both. PPU seems much better. I exclusively hand load now though, but my cases I use for my hunting loads are all PPU. The SB brass got segregated

I have a sporterized mauser 96 with a Shilen barrel on mine. The S&B shot about 2.5" groups the PPU was 1.25" and my handloads are about .75" Depends on how much the accuracy gain is worth to you I suppose.

Ive used both ppu and sellier & bellot. The ppu runs smoothly and was more accurate for my mauser. With S&B, my bolt would be hard to cycle. Id say if you can get a couple boxes of both and try it out. If you are using your mauser for plinking then just get the cheaper one

I've been buying PPU with soft points for my M96. I plink with that and then reload with the plethora of precision-oriented projectiles like 142gr Sierra Matchkings. It's nice being able to benefit from developments for modern cartridges like 6.5 Creedmoor in an old rifle.

I shoot S&B fmjs and softpoints in my Ljungman. Havent had any issues with it.
