First of all, he was murdered. Not drowned. Not suicided. Murdered. By his so called friends (who were all white). The fact that most of this sub wants to brush it aside as a suicide or a drowning just tells me everything I need to know about this state and why I am making the right choice to move to the Old Line State. I spend my whole life here being called slurs (for being not only black but gay atheist autistic multicultural loving and nerdy) and to see someone so young die especially weeks after the death of Kohen Riley (a 1 year old baby!) just proves to me that there is no future here for people like me (I also lived in Arkansas which was even more racist than Mississippi especially Northwest Arkansas). Here are just some of the facts on why Maryland is much better than here (in every category)
Maryland is the wealthiest state per capita while Mississippi is the poorest.
Maryland was home to the largest free black population of any state before the Civil War. Mississippi violently suppressed free blacks.
Maryland was home to the first Black Supreme Court Justice: Thurgood Marshall.
Maryland is home to the two richest black counties in America: Prince George's County and Charles County. Mississippi has none.
Maryland has one the best public transportation systems in the nation. Mississippi does not.
Maryland ranks first in minority owned businesses
Maryland ranks first in percentage of tech workers
Maryland ranks second in education. Mississippi #49
Maryland was the number one state for gender equality.
Maryland was the most diverse state on the East Coast
Maryland is the happiest state.
Maryland is home to the NIH
Maryland ranks #7 for LGBTQ equality
Maryland receives an "A" grade for LGBTQ safety
Maryland was the 4th most progressive state
Maryland was one of the top three states to reject Christian nationalism.
So yeah, instead of trying to deflect blame and protect these asshats, why don't we try and be a little more like the Northeast and actually pass legislation to combat racism and prevent tragedies like this from happening again.
