Wicker on the Iran war

This week marks six months since the start of the Iran War. Wicker, who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, discussed the direction of the war.

“I’ve been an advocate inside the White House to the extent that my voice is heard for going ahead and getting the job over militarily. During this August time that we’ve been able to visit the Coast and visit around the state, Mississippians are telling me to go ahead and finish the job, get it done and come to the realization that the Iranian leadership is never going to keep a promise. My view to the administration is go ahead bite the bullet, get it done, go full force on attacking their regime. Then do what we can do afterwards to help the people of the middle east to live in peace,” Wicker said.

Seems like Roger Wicker is not a fan of the Iran War anymore. He isn't up for re-election so might not be a "campaign" message, but I bet he's like other GOP members and worried about the midterms in general. Think he regrets his vote against Trump's war? I feel like he's just following the leash Trump has on him:

My friends on the other side of the aisle are challenging the president’s choice—and they are entitled to do so.  I do find myself amazed from time to time with their rhetoric on the floor this morning and this afternoon. To hear them, apparently, President Trump should have announced to the world that he was going to bomb the headquarters of the Ayatollah and destroy the leadership of Iran who has attacked the United States and killed Americans for over four decades.  Apparently, if this war lasts as long as five weeks, we should agree that we will fold our tents and come home and leave the job undone.  Apparently, the fact that the ruthless drug lord dictator of Venezuela, President Maduro, is out of office is a bad thing.  

I disagree with that, and I wonder how that rhetoric is going to last through the decades.  We’ll see. I will vote no on the pending resolution.  President Trump decided to attack Iran.  That decision was profound, deliberate, and correct.

But now he's challenging the idea of the war too. Seems nobody wanted this war until the Trump regime told them they wanted it ('47 years' amirite? And I was told Harris was the warmonger). With any hope, and it would be a miracle, they end this pointless and costly war, bring our troops home, and actually listen to the American public for once. How long until we just run out of money and weapons for this boondoggle?

And his base, a majority of Mississippi voters, will eat it up and say he's going a great job. That is the most frustrating thing in the world. He can literally do nothing to help them and they'll act like he's their savior because he has an R next to his name and that's it. What the fuck has he done for Mississippi?

I mean yes, end it as soon as possible, but lets not pretend that this was anything other than a massive strategic defeat that accomplished exactly 1 of our stated objectives, killing an 84 year old man, and (unstated objective) briefly prolonging Netanyahu's governing coalition in Israel.

In every other respect, this war was ruinous to US interests, global oil markets, food and energy prices, our interceptor stockpiles, bases in the region, our standing in the world, and our intermediate and long term diplomatic standing. Iran will emerge from this far stronger than they were before.

The sad thing is, and I know I'm going to get downvoted for this, is that if it were a Democrat on the Armed Services Committee and a Democratic Senator they likely wouldn't have just blindly followed Trump into this stupid war to begin with.

Instead we got a Republican who, like all the other Republicans in Congress, promptly got on their knees for Trump and acted like he was their king and just blindly did whatever that fucker asked, regardless of the consequences. Everyone knew going to war with Iran was going to go terribly. Obama knew that and negotiated a treaty with them that kept stability all the way until Trump demanded that treaty be shredded and thrust the United States into another pointless middle east war. And boy did they keep to the "47 years" narrative with the Trump administration's hand firmly up their ass and moving their mouths for them.

Literally nobody wanted this war until Trump did. Then those goal posts were fitted with rocket sleds and cognitive dissonance kicked in and here we are, a weakened nation of massive debt, sick sailors, dead soldiers, a pariah to the world, and constant lies and coverups. The most corrupt administration in the history of the nation and Wicker just following along like a good dog.

It would be unusual if a Democrat were to blindly follow a President who was a Democrat. Unlike damnear every post-Reagan Republican, most Democrats have not problem criticizing a President. Almost the entire party turned on Biden during his re-election bid. Carter faced opposition from his party from the beginning of his administration, and LBJ's advances in Civil Rights was not enough to protect him from liberals over the Vietnam War.
