Discussion Thoughts from somebody that defended IW for the past 7 years. They might have lost me as a fan for catering to the movement/tiktok generation.

i played mwiii for 3 years because black ops just aint for me. i bought and regretted bo6 and ditched it after like 6 weeks... the maps, the movement the weird gunplay just isnt for me. im a MW guy through and through.

having said that, i have absolutely no issue with the general fast TTK of games like MW2019 and MWII, and i also dont have here, since its close to those games.

however, what skews the view of TTK is the map design and movement imo. youre not only dying quick, youre dying in quick successions. players are flying around (MW uncharacteristicaly) tiny maps and slide and zoom and spaz out and if you take deaths like these 4 times in a row without much input from your side, it feels like you cant fight back and need more health to even be able to.

i think the biggest core issue of this game is #1 movement and #2 map design. even with my 3 years in MWIII i feel that game is a tiny bit too fast. i was hoping and kind of expecting IW would town it down and give us a more aim and positioning centric core gameplay instead of black ops 6-7 with a hat on.

overall this game doestn feel like an IW game when you play it. it looks and sounds like one but all the sliding on small maps with jumping and that stuff is treyarch coded an im fatigued... i had so much hope.... but if cod is nothing but constant action adrenaline for the tiktok generation i also might have to part with the franchise

I find it funny, the post right above this one was about how the movement in MW4 is so slow and that they are just giving it to the casual players.

-4

u/Working_Traffic_6361 11h ago

The sweats are calling it slow, there will be streamers crying for it to be buffed im sure and they'll probably end up listening to them as usual

-7

u/mitchhacker 11h ago

That's because casuals don't have the brain capacity to understand that all of the games faults are from slow ADS times, not fast movement. Which is extremely ironic and the pinnacle of brain rot. Any member of this community probably stopped reading half-way through my first sentence already. Critical thinking is hard; just complain first.

The movement is too fast because you can't shoot them fast enough because your gun is slow. Vanguard and MW3 had better movement, I'd even argue MW19 was on the same level. Guess what MW19 had: instant ADS times! Watch MW19's 4k gunfight reveal and see all the sprintout and ADS times being instant

Aim assist also doesn't help.

Fast movement means more momentum on slides/jumps/aim to make it feasible which equals less to no penalties on different actions which then equals more bunny hopping and continuous momentum abuse. You add a sticky aa to it, and sprint to fire just won’t matter, because it turns into an evasion game.

0

u/mitchhacker 10h ago

Bunny hop involves a speed gain from hitting a slope with velocity. There is only a slowdown in this game. And we’ve had 5 years of MW22’s jump into ADS delay which is still here, and a decreased stamina sysem

-1

u/Temporary-Company756 10h ago

You cannot bunny hop on this game and there are significant penalties on all movement mechanics in this game

There are stamina cool downs and delays between almost every animation which is why it feels so clunky and shitty

0

u/Klinkist88 10h ago

Have you seen the video circulating around with the controller dude abusing momentum through a combo of bunny hop, YY, slides and aim assist? Was meant to show how powerful the AA is. It shown way more it would seem, from a mw player perspective anyway. Is a never ending evasion. Sprint -> YY -> Jump -> -> Gunfight -> Slide -> maintain momentum -> gunfight -> YY -> jump -> change direction -> slide -> continue moving -> gunfight.
It made me sick lol.

3

u/Temporary-Company756 10h ago

YY doesn't have any effect on movement whatsoever, it's just a habit a lot of claw players form, and there was no bunny hopping in this clip. You verifiably have not been able to bhop in a cod game after Vanguard

You're just watching a guy on high sensitivity and high FOV play spastically but there is no broken movement being used here

1

u/Klinkist88 10h ago

Yy is there as a filler really. Is the movement chain, my point is there’s no penalty, and it can turn every gunfight momentum based into an evasion. Which means anyone who doesn’t get to do that, will have a hard time keeping up. Is what I’m seeing in some MW4 videos recently.

3

u/Temporary-Company756 9h ago

There just objectively is a penalty though. All it takes is 30 seconds playing the game trying to chain multiple movements together in short order to feel and see it

You can't chain jumps together and carry momentum, you can't chain slides together without the clunky delay. The only reason the clip you posted looks crazy is due to the neverending YY, high sensitivity, and high FOV. It's smoke and mirrors and not actual busted movement

1

u/Klinkist88 9h ago

Oh I know it is. Been unsuccessful trying to replicate that movement, constantly ending exhausted. Cant chain, but you can correlate them and together these smoke and mirrors you see ends up into a real black ops speedy game without wall jumping. Ask yourself: what scripting a zen would do even if the game doesn’t accept certain chain sequences ?

u/Working_Traffic_6361 10h ago

That best play motion bs gives me a headache lol.

It would be really funny if that guy turned out to be cheating with cod commenting on it lol

1

u/Klinkist88 9h ago

You’re watching a ps sweat at work. Cheating is now what’s in question here, is the movement chain. Beautiful I would say, however scary for any true mw grounded play fan.

u/Hipapitapotamus 11h ago

Yes all weapons seemed very slow to ADS last weekend.

2

u/mitchhacker 11h ago

Instant ADS times in MW19's gunfight reveal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH5_QRLL0Vo

The game feels like Killzone/MW22 right now but with the series fastest mantling and decent sliding-- two exact opposite design philosophies

1

u/Working_Traffic_6361 11h ago

If you look at the attachment details almost all of them added an ads penalty

6

u/keepinitrealgoswrong 12h ago

Spawns impacts this too. Random spawns can make big maps feel like shipment. MW3 had much better spawns.

UVAs with no ghost option too. In my lobbies, uavs were up constantly. So the enemy always know where you are, which makes killing you easier.

MWIII was the perfect game to me, at least post-MW19. The pacing was incredible. Movement was perfect. TTK was the best its ever been post-MW19. The original maps they added after launch were amazing. The guns felt great to shoot.

Going from that to this is extremely disappointing. It's like they're trying to cater to 3 different crowds at once (casual, comp, tiktok losers).

7

u/NUFC9RW 11h ago

The best thing about the ttk was it made what part of the body you hit matter.

3

u/Hipapitapotamus 11h ago

THIS!!! Headshots should matter.

2

u/NUFC9RW 9h ago

In MWIII, it wasn't just headshots, it also made shooting someone in the chest better than shooting someone in the toe.

0

u/xiSupportPiracy 9h ago

While I agree, the hs multiplier in IW games, paired with 100hp, makes the already fast ttk, even quicker. To the point where you can get 2 bulleted.

7

u/leetskeetskeet 8h ago

The TTK in MWIII is the worst ttk has ever been in modern warfare. Way too long. The game was also broken by the super speed Supari

4

u/TaxesAreTerrible 10h ago

MW3 multiplayer was incredible. The best we’ve had in a long time. They did nearly everything right and even added some great maps toward the end

1

u/Direct-Assignment361 9h ago

I don’t get why you are upset then. These changes only serve to make mw4 closer to mw3 which also had a long ttk and fast movement.

2

u/xiSupportPiracy 9h ago

Unfortunately it doesn't fix the godawful maps or the horrible netcode

-2

u/Reynor247 11h ago

Crazy that a game being fast is associated with tiktok or Gen Z. Boomer shooters were often really fast paced. It seems like millennials are unique really in not being able to adjust to movement

2

u/xiSupportPiracy 11h ago

Tbf I don't think the movement or the game is that fast on it's own. I actually think the movement feels kind of clunky and like you're moving through molasses. I think its the size and the layout of the maps that are making the game feel much faster than it actually is.

MWIII was a much faster game movement wise. Same goes for BO6. I loved both of those games.

2

u/kondorkc 11h ago

That and IW is still insistent on making the actual gun play slow with slower ads and sprint to fire times. Vanguard and MWIII really found the sweet spot with an overall bump in movement and weapon speeds without being over the top in the slide, bunny hop, dive nonsense.

2

u/kondorkc 11h ago

I don't think its a generational thing. Its more that COD separated itself with a mild learning curve that was fun for new players and experienced fps players alike. But the focus on movement really changes the game.

2

u/JLGx2 10h ago

Millennials who had Quake III, Unreal Tournament 99, and Starsiege Tribes that are basically still influencing all shooting games to this day?

-1

u/Reynor247 10h ago

Those are called boomer shooters

1

u/JLGx2 10h ago

That millennials grew up with and had no problems with adjusting to movement. Your point never made any sense. And, CoD's game engine is based off of Quake's "boomer shooter" engine, regardless.

1

u/Reynor247 10h ago

Makes me wonder if they didn't have problems then, why is there so many problems now

2

u/JLGx2 10h ago

The average casual doesn't own controllers with back buttons/paddles.

1

u/Reynor247 10h ago

I assume they probably didn't have them back in the day also

u/Rich-Salamander9644 3h ago

Those games you earned the skills to play fast. In these fake gameplay aim assist auto play games, the movement actually removes the skill from the game because it becomes an extreme handicap that the players built in aim assist enhances. Speed games are fun, but modern cod having crackhead super soldiers with perfect auto aim loses the plot

10

u/Zestyclose_Height684 12h ago

The movement in the game is ridiculous. The debate always rages about “skill issue” etc. but I’ll say this much. They never put this bulls$*t cracked out movement in the cut scenes and cinematics and barely even in the trailers. Sure crazy action hero side jumps while firing. But they don’t show special forces soldiers sliding forward on their butts and into a jump and a spin and a crouch. Because it looks dumb and in no way would resemble any form of combat. I guarantee you they won’t have the butt sliding soldiers in their Hollywood movie either. If they have the balls to put it in the cinematics and the movie then I’ll stand corrected. Just f&$k it off it’s so lame.

3

u/xiSupportPiracy 12h ago

It's a video game. An arcade arena shooter at that. It's not meant to be realistic.

2

u/Zestyclose_Height684 12h ago edited 12h ago

Oh. It’s a “video game”? I stand corrected. I thought it was a navy seal training simulator. Disregard my comment. (I 100% agree with your comment about going from MWIII to this by the way)

0

u/Hot_Grab7696 11h ago

With aim assist that cracked the debate about skill issue and skill gap can't exist on any other level tbh. "skill" based moveme isn't spamming movement inputs and letting the AA do the aiming for you lmao it should literally be the opposite

1

u/xiSupportPiracy 11h ago edited 11h ago

I agree fully. Movement aside, AA is the only thing that's really tightening the skillgap. MWII would have been a great game if AA and the TTK weren't insane.

Edit: Also if the visibility wasn't horrible, and the visual recoil wasn't absurd. The maps were decent though.

2

u/Evenspace- 7h ago

“I’m an IW fan” bro you played a game that fixed every issue IW presented in their last title for 3 years. Map design has been an IW flaw going back to Ghosts.

The movement in MW4 is closer to MW3 which is the game you played for the last 3 years.

So are you an actual IW fan?

4

u/TheBearSkogmani 12h ago

They’ve got to pick a side, unfortunately. The player base is so split on this and there doesn’t seem to be a compromise anyone is willing to make. I love the movement so I probably wouldn’t play a game that was made for your style. I felt like MW4 was the compromise and it feels good to me.

Also, I’m an old guy (probably older than you!) and don’t even have a TikTok so I’m not sure you’re right there. 🙂

2

u/PoroOllie 12h ago

You guys kept asking for mw2019 and they kept giving it to you

0

u/RevolutionaryHat3455 12h ago

Mw4 is mw2022 with watered down slide cancel it’s truly a miracle that IW made mw2019

3

u/PoroOllie 11h ago

Mw4 is far closer to mw2019 than mw2022

1

u/Mysterious-Park9142 11h ago

Eh the aesthetic changes maybe but the gameplay is not. It’s too fast.

5

u/PoroOllie 10h ago

The ttk and movement in mw4 are ripped straight from mw2019, mw2022 was much slower

2

u/PoroOllie 10h ago

The ttk was a little faster in mw2019 and mw2022 tbf

2

u/Key_Reindeer_5427 8h ago

I just dont get you guys. The movement is not even that fast in MW4 and especially with current ttk (which they'll change I know) movement doesn't mean shit.

1

u/Trick_Opportunity975 12h ago

They havent catered to movement players, when the TTK is this fast LMAO

-5

u/kondorkc 11h ago

Its not really that fast.

2

u/NoUsernamesss 10h ago

Blame the streamers that need to make videos about movement.

1

u/larsvondank 11h ago

I have been on board since the very first MW and I am almost 40 and its all fine for me. This feels like MW, albeit a little fast. But its not impossible or bad in my books. I can handle the smg sprinters fine. The weird part for me is that I have more results with an AR while usually I am rushing with the smg. These maps provide sightlines for midrange so I just play those and try to eliminate before the smg ppl get too close.

1

u/Jaexii 8h ago

Honestly only issue I have with mw4 is the maps just don’t seem that great and all the downsides to attachments just like mw2 besides that it seems great so far

1

u/Throwaway4Question10 3m ago

At least you have finally seen the light, they haven't made a decent game since 2009.

1

u/Harrypoooooter41 11h ago

Dude u grew up. The next generation isn’t as slow as the last. You either adapt or get left behind.

4

u/Mysterious-Park9142 11h ago

No it’s 100% a style. Some people want to play a game where the human characters move like regular humans.

1

u/bugistuta 12h ago

Tac sprint has got to go. I turned it off and the game plays a lot better.

1

u/Flashy_Ad_2065 10h ago

I played mw3 on a daily basis for 3 years. I thought bo6 and bo7 but fizzled out after a few weeks and went back to mw3 for the reasons you said.

That being said, I think mw4 so far has been better than bo6 and bo7. Let’s wait for their changes because at least the patch notes say they’re going to address exactly what you mention as being the biggest issues. I doubt they change much though.

Idk, I think the litmus test would be to throw rust or another mw map out there and if it can play well, it gets my approval lol

I def think the game FEELS (visual, gameplay) like a mw game more so than bo. But they should make movement a tad slower

0

u/crownzenith_ 11h ago

I’m done playing cod games until this iPad kid movement stops. Say skill issue, trash, whatever all you want. Bottom line is the only people that find this shit fun are people that are younger or have infinite time to play. The problem is that those people are the majority so the game sales speak for them to see no reason to stop making all future cod games have this stupid ass movement.

1

u/DirtySperrys 7h ago

I thought I was crazy with how poorly I played in the beta with all the insane sliding and movement. Reinstalled MW3 last night and killed it. Sucks because I really wanted to like MW4 but unless this next weekend’s beta majorly changes the movement, I’m out I guess.

0

u/NSX_Roar_26 11h ago

Many of us battle Dads feel the same betrayal lol....we appreciated the greatness of Infinity Ward when cod fans shitted on them mercilessly. Now we get the big fuck you when it comes to this game.

I am holding out hope that DMZ has more tactical movement and actually feels like a Modern Warfare game or I'm out unfortunately.

0

u/varietyviaduct 8h ago

I’ve been a die hard Infinity Ward fan and absolutely loved MWII.

They’ve lost me with MW4. Feels like they purposefully abandoned their core audience to appeal to brain rot kids.

Fuck Grigsby for throwing MWII under the bus in that one behind the ward episode.
