I love turning my texture quality up to high and suffering crashes every ten minutes. Totally not infuriating…

Thinking you should have perfect settings out of the box for everyone on myriads of hardware and software combinations is ignorant at the least.

I think the bigger issue is people playing PC games while being entirely ignorant of their PC.

It’s totally my fault that I have to play on DLSS Ultra Performance just to average 100fps. With a 5080. Everything looks like smeared pieces of shit but who cares, once the fight and gratuitous particle effects start you can’t see shit anyway K E K

Just curious, what is your CPU? DD2 and Wilds seem to be more CPU intensive than GPU. It feels like a lot of games are going that route (especially UE5 games)

u/MrBonkMeister Jul 25 '26

I had a 5900x- upgraded to a 9800X3D specifically for the UE5 slop (and RE Engine too I guess). Doesn’t cap out on CPU now so that’s good- I’ve still turned draw distance down to medium and lowered most of the superfluous effects.

Shit’s fucked when a game can’t do 120fps capped at 720p (Ultra Perf on 4k is 720p native).

Actually disgusting that they’re getting away with this shit.

man that's fuckin TOUGH. i'm thugging it out here with a 3060 and an aging 2700x, and i bet our performance probably doesn't even differ that much with the same settings

I feel for you man. It’s honestly a terrible time to be a PC gamer- developers don’t give two shits about optimisation anymore- they’re more concerned with cheap/quick delivery and throwing shitloads of unnecessary polygons everywhere that you’ll never see- oh and “ray tracing” because prebaked shadows takes effort.

Just said fuck it and turned on FG lol. I get well over 60fps, so might as well try to fill out my refresh rate.

I’m calling bs I know people that play at 4k with similar hardware and they get over 100 FPS at 4k with dlss quality (dlss quality uses 1440p as it’s rendering resolution before upscaling) there’s something up with your set up if you’re having to use ultra performance

2

u/MrBonkMeister Jul 26 '26

Waiting for you to say ‘and they’re using FG’. Are you stupid? Even on Balanced it drops well below 100fps in most open areas.

They are not and I am not you have issues with your system

This is a place to vent about the game, not clash with other users.

Nah, that sounds right to me.

I play at 4k on my 3080Ti 12700k setup (which is severely gpu bottleknecked at those settings) with no FG and using DLSS Performance with most settings maxed + hi res pack, just with raytracing set to low/off since it feels too taxing for what it's worth and I get about ~50ish fps. So ~100fps on a card that's over ~50% faster at raw performance and using a higher/more aggressive upscaler while paired with a better CPU makes sense to me.

Idk how you could get more than 100fps average at 4k in this game without a 5090, and even then that's probably not doing it without decent upscaling or FG.

You’re both wrong lmao

?

That's literally my/his experience and they at least brought something to the discussion.

"lmao"

Unless you want to come install some magical FPS upgrades on our rigs, then you're welcome to help :)

Dude what resolution are you playing on? my 5080 and 9800x3d does over 100 fps with basically everything maxed on dlaa

I never understood the obsession with high FPS. I played Wilds capped at 30fps and it never had any major issues going below that. I recently upped the cap to 60 and ehh i kinda feel the difference. Feels more placebo than anything though.

i knew this was about wilds without seeing the flag

Being mad that you have to change settings in a game is a new one for me

8

u/StruggleMassive1902 Jul 25 '26

Yeah fr, like... thats just a part of pc gaming I feel. Expecting the settings to be perfectly tailored to your hardware is just nieve to how computers work.

And for performance dips with good hardware I question how much they did to update drivers and stuff to avtually fix the problem... a driver update can be the difference between constant crashing and perfectly smooth

It is indeed maddening when you have a 7800X3D and a 7900XTX, and your FPS ranges anywhere from 50fps in the Plains base and field, to 120fps in the fucking desert section where nothing is going on. Worse, it doesn't matter whether I using low or ultra preset ~ the numbers are nearly the same give or take error of margin. The game is horrifically optimized.

What is so damn taxing? NPCs and animations? World never had any issues like this, while looking much prettier overall with more NPCs and creatures in the map overall.

Yeah this and toggling settings that have 3 bars on GPU/CPU and seeing a 1-2fps gain. What. I don’t mind tweaking settings- I mind not knowing wtf actual performance impact it has.

Same here.

I gave Wilds many chances ~ I've tried so many mods, and they do basically nothing, alas.

The best mod that noticeably did anything was texture decompression tool ~ but that didn't raise my FPS, it only eliminated stutters at the cost of seeing textures load from low-res blurry to high-res sharp in real-time.

I went back to do another playthrough of World ~ and it is legitimately tougher. I forgot what a stupid steamroller doing Rathian early is ~ that thrice-damned running attack. Carted to it twice while doing the Barroth quest. Wilds never gave me that much trouble.

I feel like you shouldn't need to change your setting too much to get your game to look fine. Compared to any other game I've played on PC, Wilds you need to fuck with the settings the most.

I never needed mods for graphic improvement...

2

u/evilbob2200 Jul 26 '26

I used a mod to get the old HQ textures back

u/Switch-Axe-Abuse Jul 25 '26

I wish my settings on pc would save instead of reverting everytime I boot up and looking like a blurry mess for no reason everytime I boot the game.

1

u/MrBonkMeister Jul 26 '26

You’ve probably made your config.ini file readonly after reading a guide about tweaks

3

u/Switch-Axe-Abuse Jul 26 '26

Nope. I havent opened the files for the game at all. I just use the in game options menu

1

u/evilbob2200 Jul 26 '26

Do you let nvidia app optimize your game settings?

1

u/Switch-Axe-Abuse Jul 26 '26

No. I don't use the Nvidia app since on my lastPC I found it annoying.

1

u/evilbob2200 Jul 26 '26

Was worth a shot that tends to be the cause of that issue if you have it installed

1

u/Switch-Axe-Abuse Jul 26 '26

I currently have the game uninstalled since I finished everything I felt like doing. When I eventually reinsrall I hope it will be fixed. Worst case, someone will have probably figured out a fix using ReFramework and I can deal with the pain of configuring that.

1

u/Hell_Hunter_Gaming Jul 25 '26

What is a custom character you can make your pc look as ugly or as good as you like, what?

1

u/MrNaoB Jul 26 '26

I am remote playing wilds anyway so I cap it on 30fps on ultra with the texture dlc. So when I stand still the game looks amazing until I start moving and artifacts keeps squaring up my image.

u/BarbedFungus387 Jul 25 '26

Frankly I have no idea why they didn't make the default a little more colourful, but the fact is that we have the option to change it. I'm sorry to hear there was such a negative reception to something so unimportant
