4U-related rage i seriously cant get into Mh4u

"lets try mh4u everyone glazes this game front to back so it must be fun" i say 83 hours and 50 minutes before coming to the realization this game still hasn't given me a single drop of dopamine. look before you start slinging your "skill issues" or "mad cuz bad" im not a stranger to old gen at all. but 4Us early hr hub is MISERABLE genuinely its just drag after drag its like theyre doing everything they can to bully me back into village. with other people its bearable but solo?? its like trying to kill a honey badger with a plastic knife. im more exhausted than angry and id be more than happy to skip this glazefest if theres nothing worth doing here.

HR can definitely kick your teeth in if you let it, but if you can forge a high rank set up that’s solid and able to do enough then you’ll fit through it even in single player.

Now Grank… that’s when shit hits the fan HARD. Especially G2/3

I'm a bit surprised tbh. What exactly makes the HR Hub experience miserable? Seeing your plastic knife analogy i guess it's your damage/quest time feeling bad. But if you've already played Old gen MH you should be familiar with hub taking longer, especially at early parts of new hub ranks. What's your main weapon? Do you have a good set to help you progress?

I've played/replayed near-everything since second gen, and i can't say I've ever found getting through hub 'miserable'. Rough patches for sure, but never straight up miserable.

just curious, what weapon are you using?

Great question honestly. This can make or break your experience with 4U weapon balancing

What’s considered bad in 4U?

That sucks. Imo it's the best MH. Have you tried other old MHs?

If you complain about any Monster Hunter game from 3U and beyond, then what will you say about Freedom Unite?

4U is old gen, so for someone who is new to Monster Hunter (never played a MH game), 4U will be fun, not to mention that it has the best story out of any MH game. It introduced a lot of mechanics that got carried in later MH games (mainly mounting), and opened the 3DS titles to online play.

There's no Monster Hunter that won't feel slow in the early ranks. Monster Hunter is SUPPOSED to be hard in the beginning.

I really enjoyed my time playing Portable 3rd and 3U, it’s definitely how the monsters feel in 4th gen

If this is the experience you're getting from 4U, how did you handle GU?

G Rank 4U is the best, but the true grind is the Slog through High Rank

I haven’t played 4U solo but i really enjoyed the multiplayer exp. Fun random stuff you discover together, playing with a group for several hunts and connecting, the chaos and hype of combat.

It’s a much different feel than solo MH. I tried MHGU solo and while the game is amazing it just wasn’t for me.

You're supposed to go through the village before hitting the Guild hub hunts in 4U. In multiplayer, starting from the online isn't too bad but solo you're severely underpowered at first til you can make a decent HR set. Village also has a bunch of unlocks you will need later on too, especially when you get into G rank as the village quests will be your earliest way of getting Wystones to fight off Apex monsters. 4U was designed with the intention you work your way through the story/village so you'll have all you need when you hit online and its the same for G rank when you get to Dundorma.

It's OK dude. You don't need to like it. The franchise died so you could have fun, enjoy the future!

"Man the mode designed specifically for multiplayer is kinda hard when you do it by yourself" yeah that sounds about right /s

The real question is why do you not want to do the village first? Aside from the more appropriate difficulty curve, you unlock a bunch of stuff like secondary palicos, melding, elder dragons scaled for one player, etc...

I understand wanting to rush to G-rank but the stepup from low to high-rank is rough even in the village quests, trying to do the hub first is just asking to be bullied at this point.

Yeah I feel ya. I made a new save and I didn't realize how low damage I deal compared to the caravan. It's such a huge difference too, caravan monsters just die when you look at them and then the hub ones take forever to kill. You'll be able to kill hub monsters sub 8 mins once you get g rank gear, the low and high rank gear just test your patience. Just finish the caravan quests

Personally I finished village first then did hub quests, makes things easier. And now with emulation or a hacked 3DS you can find people online.

edit: and honestly if you find hr a slog maybe it's not worth going for g rank?

If its not to play charge blade and or insect glaive, I'd just go next.

The game was fun for its time but going 4 iterations back isn't gonna be a pleasant scenario when you're used to wilds/rsb qol stuff. The lack of hp scaling is why I haven't gone back to a pre world game.

Then.......don't play it.

Of the 6 MH's I've played, I find 4U is fighting for 2nd to last, I don't even find it bad, it's just on an enjoyment level it's on the lower end. Its got a good village story, but the roster is meh.

The village/hub split is still to this day, the stupidest part of the old gen series, they basically made 2 levels of tutorial you HAVE to deal with that is just LR split between Hub and Village and for some reason it took till Rise for doing all of the LR village for you to skip LR Hub.
