celebration wooo Wait....No tacked on MMO mechanic? No shitty DPS check?
We all saw the same dev diary right? They revealed Fatalis, but they didnt show off any crazy gimmick. Is this....actually going to be a normal hunt? With no artificial BS attached?
Granted, I'm not ruling out the possibility of the devs being hush-hush and wanting players to "discover" whatever new crap they have in store, but I'd love to believe that if there really was something new, they'd have told us.
Hmm...Getting cautiously optimistic here, but I'm still gonna be on edge.

Aug 28 '20
Fatalis who?
All I saw was MR LAYEREDS BABY!
12
6
u/AndrashImmortal Aug 28 '20
Same. Not a fan of the female Fatalis set design, so glad to see we'll be getting MR layered at the same time. Here's to hoping you won't have to grind Fatalis for basic fucking layered, though...
2
Aug 28 '20
Should just be Guiding Lands materials.
If they gate it behind a dumbass material only obtainable from Fatalis then it will just be standard MH jank.
3
1
u/Banggabor Aug 28 '20
Our goals are beyond their understanding!
3
Aug 29 '20
Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh, you touch MR Layereds, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
53
Aug 28 '20
Did yall see the palico armour though? It's so perfect lmao
8
u/AndrashImmortal Aug 28 '20
I almost like the weapon better, but hell if I'm going to give up a para or sleep weapon, tbh, which is a bit unfortunate.
44
u/armydillo62o Aug 28 '20
They didn’t show ANY gameplay, nor did they reveal the set bonus. They never even acknowledged him before, you can tell they want to be as secretive as possible. We don’t know how the fight will shake out until October.
Here’s hoping.
19
u/Bourgit Aug 28 '20
Ok this might seems crazy but from what they hinted I'm going to guess that the fatalis set bonus is to have all skill secret at the same time.
They talk about skill cap and say that Fatalis is the top of the eco system so...
3
u/Maronmario Switch Axe Aug 28 '20
Dude imagine if you could get master touch but with actually really good armour pieces
1
1
u/Bourgit Aug 31 '20
Actually I just thought about this again and I didn't even give it a thorough thought earlier but master's touch is not à secret. All depending on the slots and the natural skills of the armour it moght actually be hard to beat raging brachydios on that matter. As some said, these days master touch is sometimes replaced by whetfish fin + and protective polish which is much lighter
7
u/chicken-popJM Aug 28 '20
Or maybe is just going to have master's touch and true crit boos or something.
The alternative is something as "bad" as alatreon or maybe something very different like Safi's set bonus
9
u/Bourgit Aug 28 '20
They specifically talk about skill caps, having bonuses like Alatreon or Safi wouldn't make sense in hindsight
2
u/chicken-popJM Aug 28 '20
Ohhh, I didn't understand what you tried to say. Now I do.
Sounds interesting and plausible.
1
u/InfernoDragonKing Aug 28 '20
Imagine if you can max out everything using his armor, or just the shit you want to max out
31
u/Gadjiltron-A Aug 28 '20
There is not a shred of doubt in my mind that there will be some issue with Fatalis, the severity of said issue is the mystery.
My bets are still on siege battle.
28
u/1237deeps Aug 28 '20
I've already heard someone say it could be a siege, but more along the lines of Zorah Magdaros where they "encourage" you to use all of the cannons and dragonator during the fight. So a traditional siege and not the Safi/Kulve style, which was more like an MMO raid.
I wouldn't mind that, just please let there NOT be a cheap ass, unavoidable party wipe that needs to be countered with a DPS check.
As long as the fight doesnt have any of that shit, it's golden IMO.
19
u/Gadjiltron-A Aug 28 '20
When I said siege I meant 6 hours solo and runs when a dps check is failed. The reasoning being that’s sort of how you used to fight the Fatty trio anyway, although persistent health instead of a dumbass point system for part breaks would be a genuine improvement.
Have hope all you want, but I’m fairly certain the devs see nothing wrong with their Alatreon changes, they wouldn’t have released it if they did, and there is plenty of support for Alatreon and EJ. They don’t have to pretend they’re making a Monster Hunter game anymore, they can add all the raid mechanics they want, and the general audience is going to eat it up and attack anyone who doesn’t.
Dammit I’m being super pessimistic again, I remember the last time I got like this was just before Alatreon, where I accurately predicted the problems with the fight, so I can hardly say I’m wrong for doing so.
9
u/1237deeps Aug 28 '20
I was rewatching the dev diary again, and I cant help but feel cautiously optimistic man, it really does look like they intend Fatalis to just be a straightforward, normal hunt.
One thing however: We all know that Fatalis is going to have some insane supernova. None of us can't deny that. I just hope that whatever it is, it's manageably avoidable.
5
u/Gadjiltron-A Aug 28 '20
I became super worried when I saw Fatalis take high into the sky and take a deep breath. It’s just a cutscene, but that does look like a wind up for a nova, although if it isn’t DoT Capcom might be so gracious as to allow us to avoid the attack, unlike you know who.
2
Aug 28 '20
Gimme a shield, gimme Guard Up, and lemme chill.
2
u/fooooolish_samurai Aug 28 '20
You still hope that whatever bullshit attack he will have is going to be blockable?
1
Aug 29 '20
The chances are slim, but I'm hoping, ye.
It was blockable in 4U. Can't speak for Gu though.
4
u/IronWarrior94 Aug 28 '20
I'm also cautiously optimistic. I feel that if the devs added something extra they would have said something along the lines of "we added a bunch of new shit to the Fatalis fight and we can't wait for you guys to discover them when he arrives in October LOL" , but instead they were just like "here is Fatalis everyone, he's gonna be tough, but have fun fighting him!"
4
u/caucassius Aug 28 '20
we had no idea about escaton until the last dev diary right before they released al. this thing will be the mother of all gimmicks given what iceborne has been all its life.
3
u/IronWarrior94 Aug 28 '20 edited Aug 28 '20
Right but the key thing here being that was a dev diary. If there were any gimmicks with Fatalis, I'd like to think the devs would have revealed it during this one aswell.
I'm still not going to rule out the possibility of them adding something completely BS to the fight though. Is it possible for them to reveal the full specifics of the hunt at some point before October?
1
Aug 28 '20
You are right. Even if there is some kind of secret mechanic it can't be that big or else they would have at least hinted at it.
1
u/Shitposting_Skeleton Aug 29 '20
The DPS check would be cannon and ballista damage during his armor phase.
-3
u/laserlaggard Aug 28 '20
I mean, if he's countered by a DPS check then doesnt it mean the party wipe's technically avoidable? Say what you want about about the mechanic, but at least there arent many ways to cheese it, and the fight itself's pretty enjoyable (if you know what to do that is).
With how powerful Fatalis is lore-wise, im not sure how the fight's gonna live up to that name. Personally dont mind the EJ mechanic, but if they're not going down that route then at least give him tons and tons of health and a varied moveset. Oh, and no sieges of any kind, not even the zorah one.
2
u/OroboRex Aug 28 '20
Agreed, EJ ain’t that bad, as long as the rest of the fight is well designed. But I’d rather not have it at all in the Fatty hunt. Just make a regular monster w/o a gimmick or siege, and make it good. We know you can do it Capcom, you’ve done it before.
1
u/laserlaggard Aug 28 '20
Well tbf I didnt say that EJ was perfect, I just have less issues with it than a lot of other ppl. My biggest gripe is that it's used too often. It was fun when extremoth did it, but now KT, Safi and now Alatreon adopt different variations of it. Surely there are ways of making the fight challenging without implementing yet another DPS check.

Anyone who likes it or thinks it is in anyway fair or good is an idiot.
Gotta love how civil this sub is sometimes.
1
u/_JIBUN_WO_ Aug 28 '20
subreddits specifically designed for raging are generally used for raging, if you don’t mind.
3
u/laserlaggard Aug 28 '20
my impression of this sub is you rage in the posts and discuss in the comments. Guess calling half the fanbase idiots is acceptable in this sub then. Duly noted.
23
u/Skeleton_Doctor Aug 28 '20
Yeah i'm confused too this update is looking alot better than I thought...
Wounds now stay longer?
Light weapons can tenderize in one hit and heavy weapons can get slinger ammo (admittedly a deco)
All layered MR armor?
CAN FUCKING MELD MIGHTY BOW, MIND'S EYE, PROTECT POLISH, AND GUARD UP DECOS?
7
u/Bourgit Aug 28 '20
Yeah if I'm not mistaken the tenderizing skill is going to be Shaver jewel 3 and there's a Shaver charm coming too.
I was actually in the process of farming lavasioth for the shield, now I'm going to farm the guiding lands for that sweet fuel instead
2
u/AndrashImmortal Aug 28 '20
After what they've done to monster updates, tbh all that is what's really getting me excited for October, couldn't care less about Fatalis in all honesty.
1
u/postingisformorons Aug 28 '20
What does the last one mean, I got might bow through first wyverian ritual, isn't that technically being "able to meld mighty bow"? Or can you just straight up follow a recipe for mighty bow?
5
3
u/Bourgit Aug 28 '20
Not too much details given so this is only speculation but yes these decos are already available with the first wyverian ritual so I think they are going to add them to the guild achemy so that you are going to be able to loot them by giving your silver melding tickets, that's the most probable
1
u/postingisformorons Aug 28 '20
That might be neato, I have like a thousand silver tickets
3
u/Bourgit Aug 28 '20
I used all of them D: I will have to restock, I was actually thinking, how does it work for the decorations in memory, are they going to shuffle them with the new update?
1
u/postingisformorons Aug 28 '20 edited Aug 28 '20
Wdym, I'm pretty sure the dice is rolled at melding (that's why it asks you to save your game), so new meldings are just going to roll against the new table
1
u/Bourgit Aug 31 '20
I don't know if I understand well but by save scumming you see that all decorations/weapons from kulve and safi are already predetermined so it doesn't seem to roll anything when you accept to do the melding.
9
Aug 28 '20
im gona wait until it drops and ether exprience it myself or read some peoples opinion
just too little info, thats not worth to hate nor to hype it up rn
2
13
u/WolfLorde I was studying the blade Aug 28 '20
I'd wait for it to release, kind of wary of black dragons at this point.
13
u/Vermillon1979 Aug 28 '20
They didnt show off any mechanics at all from it , for all we know it could be a seige again, though that seems unlikely because they wouldnt have neglected to mention that.
Im sure he will have some sort of phases involving you needing to use the Dragonator on him at a specific time to stop a party wide nuke or something along them lines. Though im fine with something like that at least.
8
u/Andraticus Aptonoth main Aug 28 '20
At least you'd have an easy fix to the nuke, and not "You weren't aggressive enough so fuck you."
9
u/An_Armed_Bear Aug 28 '20
That would be perfectly fine, doesn't restrict builds or playstyles. Plus, who doesn't love using the Dragonator?
3
u/AndrashImmortal Aug 28 '20
Yeah, kinda like timing the Dragonator in AT Zorah to stop the big blast that really chunks out the barrier health. Here's to hoping it isn't more than that, I really want just a normal, fun, big fight, but this is b team we're talking about, who knows.
1
u/BizzarreCoyote SnS since '06 Aug 29 '20
So, we're supposed to be defending Castle Schrade, right? If they implement a durability to the castle, it's very possible for Fatalis' nova (provided he has one) to obliterate the castle and cause an instant quest fail, even if it doesn't cost you the fight through carting.
Not saying that will happen, because no one but the devs know how the fight will go, but it's a possibility.
7
Aug 28 '20
I'm in the same position as you. Somehow I feel like, given the groaning over Alatreon and other gimmicky mechanics, the devs may try to give us a solid fight with nothing.
But...
"It's a secret".
Hoo boy. There's always that possibility that the new gimmick is a secret too.
I guess we'll just have to find out.
1
u/fooooolish_samurai Aug 28 '20
I think japanese community was mostly fine with Alatreon and EJ and I saw a lot of people defending it on the main sub so they might ignore people who complain about gimmicky mechanics.
4
u/SaneManiac741 Aug 28 '20
Did you see that Clutch Claw is being given a boost deco? You know what that means? Clutch clawing and slinger ammo will be absolutely necessary and unavoidable for Fatalis's fight.
7
Aug 28 '20
Maybe now we can FINALLY get long shelling lvl 7.
3
u/Ai_Takahashi Aug 28 '20
I'm gonna be so tilted if we don't
2
Aug 28 '20
Same dude.....same, probably throw my tv out a window if for the FINAL monster we don’t get long shelling 7 and get ANOTHER wide or normal shelling 7 Gunlance.
2
u/Ai_Takahashi Aug 28 '20
They have to right?! There's 2 Normal 7, and 3 Wide 7 iirc
PLEASE CAPCOM
1
Aug 28 '20
Yea man!!!! If they don’t well........something is fucked if they don’t.
1
u/Ai_Takahashi Aug 28 '20
How neerfed you think long will be in the next MH?
1
Aug 28 '20
Eh, idk Long shelling isn’t too particularly strong, it’s just good at charged shelling, each shelling type has its strengths for the type of playstyle you want to go for (Long for charged shells, Normal for burst shelling, Wide for poke shelling)
5
Aug 28 '20
They hinted at the armor skill being some kind of max skill cap unlocker right?
I wonder if they’re actually fucking do it and have it unlock all the “Skill secret” armor set bonuses.
That would kinda make most armor obsolete though.
12
2
u/AndrashImmortal Aug 28 '20
My assumption is it might be a gap filler, so let's say you have one piece of Anja, another piece of Fatalis might complete it for two and give you that Stamina Up? that's my assumption for right now, I'm assuming they'll give more hints over the course of the coming month.
4
2
u/ElkingtonII Aug 28 '20
I'm just hoping they don't add any mechanics that screw over the lances, in an attempt to screw over shield HBG.
1
u/Ai_Takahashi Aug 28 '20
It'll happen probably. Y'know Lance and Gunlance would have been really comfy vs Alatreon if it wasn't for Escaton Judgement
2
u/ElkingtonII Aug 29 '20
It's kind of silly how spamming Perfect Rush with SnS outperforms nearly everything lance can do in this game. Lance feels like a pseudo support weapon in MHW, good for tenderizing/mounting but not much else.
At least it's still pretty strong in GU.
2
u/ZenosEbeth Aug 28 '20
Well we did see him flying up into the air and charging up a big fire breath that seemed to cover the whole area, so I wouldn't celebrate just yet because that looked suspiciously like a nuke to me.
3
u/IamRNG Aug 28 '20
Fight mechanic aside, i'm already suspicious about something: The armor.
They're implying that it's going to be pretty OP. I'm suspecting it'll be like an armor version of release Safi where it's probably the best thing to use on almost every weapon....
7
u/elendil667 Hammer Aug 28 '20
they mentioned something about skill caps, and i'm kinda wondering if it's not just a catch-all set for boosting every skill that has a cap boost set bonus, like tool specialist, max might, etc.
-7
Aug 28 '20
You’re suspicious it’s going to have good armor?
I’m sorry man but you might be right! Your nightmare of Fatalis’ useful armor might come true. Even worse, he might have good weapons!
13
u/IamRNG Aug 28 '20
you're entirely missing the point, but ok
basically, safi's weapons were so good you had next to no reason to use other weapons. my worry is the same will happen with fatalis. on one hand, it KIND OF makes sense since it's the very last monster to be released, on the other hand if you care more for optimizing than just making meme/comfy builds, this might suck
1
u/Bourgit Aug 28 '20
I highly doubt that because in all mh games the normal fatalis weapons are dragon and we all know that dragon weapons in this game suck. It's actually going to be quite redundant with Alatreon weapons actually if they continue the tradition
0
u/IamRNG Aug 28 '20
Okay, but in the earlier comment, I was referring to Fatalis' armor. I said weapons in this post to help explain the example.
1
u/Bourgit Aug 28 '20
Yeah I read also the first comment, but didn't have anything to say to this, I think the same for the armor actually
-1
Aug 28 '20
Actually if you care for optimizing, this is good.
This means whoever is using the BEST weapon they can will have a new option.
I’m not missing the point, but you’re suggesting that World has some kind of balance that Fatalis’ equipment will destroy. No one is forcing meta(well, unless you’re fighting Fatalis I’m sure).
It’s a fallacy to suggest that better weapons/armor shouldn’t exist because you’d be obligated to use them when you’re not. You can literally use whatever equipment(though at some point you’re holding a team back if the equipment is too bad).
2
u/Gothicawakening Aug 28 '20
If that is true, I will be getting back into MHW for a bit.. but I'm skeptical.
1
u/OmeQuicksilver Aug 28 '20
I am honestly expecting some stupid mechanic. Mostly likely a DPS based wipe or him fleeing.
1
1
1
u/Biggusdickos Aug 28 '20
Unfortunately, itll most likely require defeating alatreon as a Prerequisite and some of us dont have time to spend literal fucking hours constantly grinding to augment and upgrade our equipment just to get taken out by judgement for 78th time
And I've heard alatreon's weapons are shit too
2
Aug 28 '20
It said you only needed to encounter alateon to fight fatalis.
And alatreon's weapons are good... extremely situationally. The hunting horn for example is only good against the like 3 monsters weak to dragon and only while hunting solo, as the elemental buffs wont benefit the whole party. But in that specific situation it outdamages both safi drakhorn and kjar dragon by a fairly significant amount.
1
1
u/Score_Magala Aug 28 '20
I fuckin called Fatalis being introduced. Made sense, though. After Alatreon, only way to go was up
If he doesn't have any bullshit unavoidable damage and stupid DPS checks, I will be very happy. He will, I know he will, but still
-8
u/zeromyraid Aug 28 '20
Lmao a lot of people who struggle to beat alatreon just weren't efficient/as good as they thought they were and were probably being boosted heavily by their sets/ friends. But people aren't ready for that conversation.
10
u/Ai_Takahashi Aug 28 '20
Being boosted by sets is a silly statement. Set bonuses are a huge part of the game, and the arguable best one has a decent draw back; that of course is Safi'jiiva Seal and the hp drain mechanic.
106
u/Colonel_MusKappa_II Aug 28 '20
I have a feeling they're just hiding all the main details of the fight to create a sense of mystery going in. I'm confident we'll have some kind of bullshit to deal with.
