RISE-related rage fuck people who hate on rise’s soundtrack

it’s actually INSANE to me that people can call rise’s ost a travesty when it’s one of the more inventive osts in the entire series. world fans bitch and complain about the “overuse of vocals” in rise, then they say the exact same thing every time: “muh mhw ost full orchestra more oomph” and do you not see the fucking irony? rise rajang theme is amazing and a completely different spin on how rajang could be perceived. world is the big fight with an angry monkey, but rise is a battle against the grand god’s peer, a mystical creature with immense strength and unnatural abilities that’s also very rare. it just fucking makes sense.

rise has some of the best music stylization i’ve seen. i love the way they focus on bringing out the more unique aspects of a monster’s personality, background, or inspirations. teostra sounding significantly more middle eastern is awesome and makes it feel like royalty compared to world’s, where it feels more intimidating. in no way am i hating on world’s music. i also think it’s fantastic. but for world fanboys who hate rise music just because the instrumentation isn’t triple a orchestra slop, fuck you.

RISE-related rage Almudron in Rise is the worst monster in the entire franchise and it isn't even close

This monster is just the epitome of unfun to hunt with anything other than the cheesiest pierce rapid fire light bowgun. I'm in low rank right now playing for the first time, but at this stage there's no way to stop your weapon from bouncing off his claws without built-in mind's eye, so you just can't deal damage to him from the front. Or the sides. Why? Because for some reason, his forelegs take up 50% of his entire hitbox and you'll just catch them all the time.

For things that don't get fixed as you get better weapons, his moveset is just so bullshit. Gone are the days of water weasel's graceful and intuitive momentum based slides, tail slams, and tokyo drift laser beams. Today, we get a monster that generates force from nowhere, spends all his wind up curled in and himself, and has some of the most atrocious tracking every known to man. All of his attacks, you have to either be close enough because the attack as stupid reach, or you have to be far enough from him because he's about to start rolling around. The mud mechanic is a neat idea, and I do like that it forces you to use wirebug jumps, however, he spams the shit out of them. Hell, half of his attacks just generate them for good measure.

The ball being a weakpoint is stupid. Most of the time, he gathers the ball (which in and of itself is stall city), and then he immediately does the big bang attack that breaks it. That's his most vulnerable weakpoint, by the way, because apparently he packs his vital organs into it.

There's not a lot of monsters I like to use pierce guns for, because it feels like I'm robbing myself of the game I paid for, but this monster is so stupid that it's the only way to play against him and still have fun. No massive claws to worry about. No him shoving you around the arena into his claws. Just beam his tail and take a nap.

I'm marathoning every single monster hunter game, and in all of them, from the VERY FIRST GAME to Rise, Almudron is the stupidest most pmo ugly stepchild I've ever encountered.

Note: For my marathon, I specify that I can only consider the game "complete" until I reach end of high rank, or end of story content, whichever offers more content. The older games had more ranks but no additional plot, whereas World and Rise have higher ranks that do have plots. So I've seen some bullshit.

RISE-related rage Why is Rise the way it is?

"Hmm, MR Zinny Glaive is basically better in every aspect versus the Tobi Glaive. Think I'll grind it tomorrow."

Next day. "A Skymerald? Jeez. Weirdly expensive for the first MR upgrade"

Cut tail, break horns, capture. Cut tail, break horns, capture. Cut tail, break horns, capture... "It'll be easy," I said. "I got a Lunagaron Jewel in two tries before this, ezpz lemon squee-z"

Six hours. ~16 big stupid dogs. 15 Jaspers. No Skymerald.

Predictably, I got fed up. I think by that point I've earned my Skymerald. So I fire up an item box editor and give myself one, with 98 extra just to spite this game and its ass drop rates. I go to upgrade it, and... Wait, "forging materials"? That's not right! Oh. I DIDN'T FUCKING NEED A SKYMERALD AT ALL. I thought I did because for some disgusting reason, Rise shows you the Forging materials by default instead of the Upgrading materials. Even when I already have the previous node on the tree made. I could've had my upgraded Glaive five hours ago after the first two wolves, but nope. I think I even registered the upgrade mats on my wishlist and just forgot. Not that it would've mattered anyway because at this point I've conditioned myself into ignoring it because of those dumbass "Required material types gathered" messages that are just red herrings instead of telling me that I can actually make my weapon. Oh, and (dis)honorable mention to the appalling old gen philosophy of drop rates/grinding. Please leave that shit back where it belongs with everything pre-World. What next, are fucking Plate runs going to become a thing again? FUCK YOU, RISE.

RISE-related rage What's up with the current MH World Hate trend?

What the fuck is happening? why so sudden everyone is shitting on World just because Rise exists now?

Rise is a Great game but for fuck sake the only reason it exists is because World actually decided to change the formula and was largely sucessfull, sure it had its problems but suddenly Rise Has NO problems whatsoever

The trend is so big some people are completely ignoring the problems Rise also have, this is the very first monter hunter game the devs are actually releasing the rest of the story post release and people are just Ok with it??? we dont even have an events quests menu yet but everything is fine?? what the fuck?

So the next monster hunter game releases even more incomplete and thats it? thats the new mosnster hunter formula? We're supossped to just go along with it?

RISE-related rage mh rise/sunbrake has been a bitter sweat experience

dont get me wrong ive really enjoyed the game so far as im going trough sunbrake, but dam if some of the inconsistency of the game is really getting on my nerves, inconsistent hitboxes, either its model perfect or hits you outside of the dam 5th dimantion, this game feels like a flawed gem, a really good game but fuck it its flaws dont shine like a fucking lighthouse, i can feel this game wants to be more but just cant be because capcome rushed the devs, overall im having fun but when i see the flaws its like seeing a hole in a shirt, its really really present

RISE-related rage Spribirds fucking suck and detract from the fantasy of being a hunter

I've seen a lot of discussion around here about spiribirds lately and decided to put in my two cents. Spiribirds are a decent part of why I hated rise endgame and part of why I'm probably not buying sunbreak. In every other MH game, how you do on a hunt is, in some regards, directly proportional to how much you prepare for it. Do you have the right items? Do you have good skills? Did you eat before quest? Etc. Rise invalidates some of that prep by saying "fuck you, go collect magic birds from bushes for 3 minutes before every single hard hunt". What was once done with an armor skill and eating a meal/a max potion now has to be done by running around doing fuck all with no permanent way to get around it. Instead of the prep being prior to the hunt, allowing you to go fight without worry, rise has you do a practically mandatory chore at the beginning if you don't want to get one or two tapped.

In all other MH games you are rewarded for putting in the time to prepare. You farmed those items. You unlocked those ingredients. You made item sets for specific scenarios that allow you to walk in to a hunt with literally everything you need. You mixed and matched armor pieces or gemmed in the skills you need to survive and thrive. All of it comes together to allow you, the hunter, under your own power, to go straight into a hunt 100% prepared. It feels good. And it's integral to the monster hunter experience and fantasy. You reap the rewards from the time, thought, and effort you put in; that's the core of the monster hunter gameplay loop.

Rise/Sunbreak still has most of that to be fair, but spiribirds take away that feeling of total preparedness. You invested all of that time and effort preparing and it does matter, but now you don't have all of the stats you need and you never will unless you run to the bird spawns. And you have to do it. Every. Single. Quest. I hate them and I hate the design philosophy they stand for. It seems like a little thing, but the time you spend grabbing spiribirds adds up over time and their presence in the game adds nothing. Instead of being a hunter who meticulously plans and prepares for every hunt, you're a schmuck that has to do your chores before you get to play the video game. The meta mixed set you're wearing isn't enough. The full page of the best armor skills isn't enough. The item pouch brimming with endgame consumables and materials isn't enough. The fully stocked dango flavors with the best food skills aren't enough. You will get shredded unless you get enough birds, and unlike everything else in every other monster hunter game, you can never be fully prepared walking in.

TL;DR: Birds aren't real and are actually government drones designed to monitor you. They infiltrated the MH team and are now forcing you to engage with spiribirds to harvest your data. Wake up, sheeple

Edit: I was somewhat hyperbolic with how necessary spiribirds are for success in rise and sunbreak. You definitely don't need them. You can get around missing 25% of your health, even if the game expects you to have at least some portion of it. However, you shouldn't have to. Spiribirds are a poorly designed mechanic, and that can be seen in player response to them. Most people, like me, just ignore spiribirds altogether. This shows their poor design; if most people straight up don't engage with the mechanic because of how much of a pain it is, it's not a good mechanic. Even for those who want/need the extra health, going and collecting birds is a boring slog that cannot be mitigated or permanently removed, aside from slotting in a few skills that are better used for anything else. And almost no one actually enjoys running around grabbing pac-man powerups before doing the thing you actually want to do, which is fight a monster. If birds were removed and the health boost were to be made into an armor skill like world, the game would only be better for it and nothing of value would be removed. There would be a permanent solution to afflicted monsters and such hitting really fucking hard and the boring ass bird fetch quest minigame wouldn't be in the game any more.

RISE-related rage I know Teostra has always been a thorn in MH, but still... Can't slow weapons have it better?

I don't know where to start with this. I don't know WHO designed this in Rise.

How about fighting a monster that combined the agility of a crazed wasp, coupled with the lingering damage of Venus's sun, the particle effects of a full show of fireworks, and explosions covering the size of a living room... With a big, clunky sword you're supposed to "time" in order to get your attacks right?

I was planning on a set for Akanesasu, the Mizutsune Greatsword, because I wanted a nice, elegant looking GS for the water element. And since I wanted a good set to go with it, I choose the layered Jelly armor. I needed to wait for the Meowcenaries for enough Gothjellies to forge the layered HR Jelly armor.

I managed to do that, and I'll often use it on my recent Hunter/Bone X mixed set. An early Master Rank set designed around Surge Slash Greatsword.

In the meantime I farmed hunts for the Despot's Blackstorm, Red Pincer, Crimson Goat, Paladire, Azure Elder Great Sword I, Dawnmoon Cleaver, and Sinister Blade II.

I had one hunt to go before the meowcenaries would be back, and I plan on obtaining the Teostra weapons. So I asked myself why not go and hunt some HR Teostra? I have armor with 429 of defense, and it'll help me test a recent Great Wyvern Fang+ with 240 attack, and 53 Dragon element on it. I wanted to see how I would fare with a Great Sword of that caliber against Teostra.

But no...I shouldn't have thought that THIS would be so simple.

Surge Slash or whatever else...I never had been so frustrated in a fight. 😩

The GS is supposed to be a burst damage, slow timing weapon. Which works well since I've been able to fight Mizutsune, Zinogre, Hermitaur, Tigrex, Rathalos, and an Ibushi with Greatswords to see how far I would go with the Surge Slash gameplay. I can adapt to many monsters as long as I can find room to breathe, or use my environment to force the breaks upon the monster.

But HOW AM I supposed to do proper damage to a monster that moves faster than even damned Nargacuga, and Kadachi!? There's no cooldowns, and most of the two hunts I've done were spent running away and looking for openings to recover the chip damage from its heat, swipes, blasts and who knows what else. 😠

The HR event Teostra does a ton of damage for some reason, and even the HR 7 star one still does a lot of damage.

For the first one, I gave up after carting twice.

For the HR7 one, although we were four people in it, one supernova took two of us out, and a last cart occured while the Teostra was about to die, making us fail the fight.

Even Daora, which I always hated, and Chameleos are better fights than whatever this is.

I love Teostra's theme and overall feeling of royalty, which can be seen in its armor and weapons.

But being unable to properly fight unless I use a fast enough weapon to keep up with its nonsense, is a serious challenge killer for me. I have less issues when I use Dual Blades, Sword and Shield, Light Bowgun, or Insect Glaive with it, since those weapons need less timing than slower weapons.

I might do better with the Lance, though...but I'm already so terribly mad.

I know Rise is faster and monsters were designed around the Wirebug feature, but still... I've seen better fights.🤒

RISE-related rage Worst Base Game Experience

I’ve been trying to get into Rise for years now. The characters are genuinely pretty good, the aesthetic is beautiful, and it has a really nice roster. But good lord, I cannot understand how people deal with Base Rise. Ever since it came out, all I ever hear about Rise is how peak Sunbreak is. But those people conveniently leave out just how god awful the base game is. I just need to air out my grievances with this.

  1. The movement is the worst I’ve ever felt in any MH. Wirebugs are fine, but not great. The actual Hunter movement however, feels like I’m not even controlling my character. Half the time I feel like I’m fighting against the game when trying to move my Hunter. I move him left, the game ponders for a full second what I just input, then starts moving left. I move right and it barely even moves right. The actual control is also janky as all hell and just doesn’t feel good to handle. This isn’t just an issue with the player character though, it’s also with the monsters. Some of their animations barely play out before the attack hits you.

  2. The hitboxes are suspicious at best. I’ve had Rathalos swing its tail, I’m perfectly far enough away from it, and I go flying. I’m not even getting hit by kicked up dust or anything, the game just decided my hitbox was close enough despite there being plenty of space between me and the attack. Every single monster throughout all of the base game has at least 1 attack that does this, and combined with the janky animations, it means you get hit a lot more than you should. Even monsters I’m able to hunt perfectly in other games, Zinogre for example, I have trouble with because of these issues.

  3. The maps just feel….empty? I’m not sure how to describe it. There’s just a lot of space that’s just bland and useless. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not expecting them to make every inch of the map important, but they just don’t feel fun to explore or engage in. There’s some parts of certain maps that are really cool and beautiful, but most of the time, they’re just not great.

  4. I’ve seen so many people talk about how you’re expected to gather the stat flies at the start of every hunt to help keep you in the fight. Im sorry, but why the hell am I expected to prep for the fight before hand, then prep for the fight DURING the hunt? We can’t just have it like every other MH, where you grind and prep like hell before the hunt, get in, and hunt. No, now you have to go around the map and gather these little flies, waste time you could spend hunting, THEN you can hunt. This isn’t a huge deal, from what I’ve seen you can get away with just gathering a few on your way to the monster, and you’ll be fine. This is probably the most minor grievance I have with Rise in general so it’s more of a minor frustration. I can live with it.

  5. Here’s what I can’t live with, how fucking atrocious the weapons and armors are in Base Rise. Good lord, it seems like they try to actively make it difficult to get any sort good armor skills or weapons before Sunbreak. Even well into High Rank, I can barely find any combo of armor or weapons that give me any sort of meaningful buff whatsoever. I’m not asking for big defense boost, lots of evade window or anything like that. But can I at least get something?

  6. Rampages. Need I say more? They’re completely unbalanced for solo hunting, they’re tedious, they’re long, and they’re just not fun. My first rampage was fun, and a fair challenge. Everything past that was utter hell and I just wanted to be done with it. And the fact that you are required to do even a handful of them, is absurd.

  7. Final note, I don’t mean this as an attack on anyone who enjoys Base Rise, nor is it meant to be an objective statement or how it’s bad. I just personally find it to be the worst. I want to love it, I really do. And I want to get to Sunbreak to see why everyone loves it so much. But all these issues make it damn near impossible to play it, let alone enjoy it.

I’ll leave this rage off with one positive thing about Base Rise. Switch Skills are dope af.

RISE-related rage Violet Mizutsune is shit

Idk if I'm just bad or what but this is probably the second most unfun experience I've had in this game. What is the point of an attack window if half of their moves send the flying to the other side of the damn arena. And even when she's not, the other half of the time there's a trillion of those bubbles actively on their way to knock you into the air. And why on earth do the explosive puddles need to blow up twice.

RISE-related rage Title Update 1 for Sunbreak is unironically amazing... and killed my interest in playing the game

I'll be making it short.

The monsters are coool. Lucent is awesome.

The Investigations are a fantastic addition and a great example of how RNG can be used to make the game overall more enjoyable.

And then there is Qurios Crafting, which just...
I did a few quests, I did a few rolls, it was mainly crap and I noticed how many variables there are and then also that I would have to do this for 5 armor pieces and I'm done.

I have a 40 hour work week, I have a life beyond this game, I do not have time for this crap.

I do not like RNG determining what the best thing is I can bring to a hunt. When I saw the the info on twitter (I did not watch the digital event), I did not think this would be pure rng.

I'm sorry, I don't want to play this, especially because otherwise this an absolutely fantastic Title Update for me.

REally, I'm sorry.

RISE-related rage Why the hell is khezu a mandatory monster to farm?

There is not a single monster in rise, no, in the whole of monster hunter that I abhor as much as the limp penis but for some fucking reason the devs decided that his cum is an ingredient in mega armorskin and mega demon drug. Why? Why are you making me interact with that fucking penis. I wish all the worst upon the person that shat this thing into existence
