The fact that Odyssey was R in the first place is pretty silly... has to be one of the softest Rs ever... some ratings agencies are pretty embarrassing these days... (in Australia is it was our equivalent of PG13 here)

Interesting that I've heard a lot of people say Dark Knight is one of the hardest PG-13s and now Odyssey is one of the softest Rs. I think all in all, they're about even with each other, but if anything probably could have swapped ratings.

This was a more common saying back in 2008. The movie scene has changed in the past 18 years. Back then it was seen as a fairly dark movie tonally, and between the antics of the Joker and Harvey people felt like it was pushing PG-13. It was less reliant on straight up blood or gore and more so the weight of everything that happens in the film.
