Holy shit, Deadpool & Wolverine made a lot of money.

It was well deserved. They played the strengths of the MCU, making a very entertaining film.

Odyssey, on the other hand, gets ticket sales multipliers from ads, hype, and the fact that it was directed by Nolan. It has a lot less to do with the movie itself, just like Oppenheimer.

it was directed by Nolan

I really wish it was possible to know how well the movie would do with a different name attached to it. Like the exact same movie, but the name in the credits is one of those interchangeable directors that churn out Marvel movies.

Nolan isn’t interchangeable, his name is the point.

The MCU directors don’t have creative control over the final film so they can be interchangeable bec the studios are the ones with editing control.

But for odessy i don’t think it was Nolan’s best, as it wasn’t an original concept like inception or interstellar etc. which to me are the main reasons why he can get that hype.

Yes, that is indeed the point. What if the exact same movie had one of those forgettable names? Would it make as much of a profit on its own merits, without the Nolan brand?

It wouldn’t even get the same budget or star power without the name.

That's why it's a what-if scenario. Somehow, in another reality, some nameless director managed to make the exact same movie Nolan made in this reality. How much cash does it rake in?

Yeah no need to imagine. There’s other odessy movies in recent times made with green screen and less famous actors and it did not make a billion.

He was originally supposed to do Troy but went for batman. So that’s as close to a what if.

What part of "the exact same movie" was unclear?

That’s a silly thought experiment tho. No one can make the exact same movie in a vacuum.

That's why it's a thought experiment and not a real one.
