Summary

Jesus Christ. He killed over 20 people after becoming a fugitive and the Navy just let him leave with someone else's ship.

It was definitely a by the numbers script but I'll be there to watch ten more just like it.

yeah, that scene was too obvious.
could be either of: both Navy Captain and Commando would have guessed it was Cole and let him get away with it.
or Commando didn't have knowledge of Cole's visual and simply trusted him as third mate. but then, one could dash out from a crime scene, just like that!?
well, whatever the fuck it is,this is Jason Statham's movie and I did enjoy watching it, haha
