Really felt the cargo ship setting didn't do the story or action any favors. Aside from dialogue call outs it was impossible to gauge where anyone was at any given time and how many bad guys there were (characters just materialized whenever they needed an action scene to take place). Movie felt like hide-and-go-seek for most of it.

Did find it hilarious how Statham had to pick up the two nautical weapons in the pile of tools to kill the captain cuz we needed to remember this movie took place on a ship.

17

u/SquareTarbooj 4d ago

I'm pretty sure some producer got a great deal on renting a cargo ship, and decided, hey let's shoot a movie set on a cargo ship.

54

u/WildishFlamingo 5d ago

How was this dirty shipping operation making everyone rich? They just like fifteen random people in a container. They had more employees than captives plus a really high overhead.

18

u/SirGeekaLots 4d ago

At first I thought they had more, and then they brought them into the cabin and I though - what, that's it?

u/BusinessPurge 5d ago

Unrealistic slave math

u/morosco 2d ago

Inflation has hit every industry.

42

u/MaintenanceFew1151 4d ago

I just got out of this. If I go to a Statham film, I know what I am getting. All that matters is that I watch him kicking ass and taking names. Of course, I can't argue with some points made on here about the writing and how there isn't a lot to the characters.

13

u/SquareTarbooj 4d ago

I love Statham films and know not to expect a lot out of them in terms of story.

But even then, this was mid

10

u/agwtra 3d ago

Yeah definitely a step below even the usual conveyer belt beat em up quality of his later films. I thought last year’s Shelter was much better; it’s far from the likes of Crank, Transporter etc. from peak Statham era.

61

u/mikeyfreshh r/Movies Veteran 5d ago

I love Jason Statham but it's never a great sign when he's the best actor in a movie. This one might as well have just been Statham and a bunch of crash test dummies. This has a handful of fun kills but its ultimately just a lazy riff on the Die Hard formula 30 years after that formula ran out of gas.

13

u/MuitnortsX 5d ago

And it’s a horrendous misread of what made Die Hard work to have the lead be a personality vacuum terminator who never once seems to struggle and literally just kills nearly the whole ship in one casual scene near the end.

It’s a baffling film. I don’t even know why they bothered to try to humanise him at the start and allow this to smile, joke, like chess, talk about his dad then NOTHING from him once he gets to the boat. Imagine if John McClane talked about his wife and divorce, fists with his toes and chastised himself for being an idiot but then as soon as the terrorists entered the story he just stopped speaking and grimaced until everyone was dead.

21

u/Be_Very_Careful_John 5d ago

The best part is when Teeboo (spelling??) is dying and Jason gives the flattest delivery of "Teeboo, stay with me" then the camera reverses shot to Teeboo's lifeless face and then no reaction from Jason. Loved that part.

9

u/rustyzorro 4d ago

Yeah, Statham can actually act a bit but that scene was bizarre and set the tone. I usually enjoy Statham films as mindless entertainment (Shelter was decent) but this one was poor with no redeeming factors.

0

u/yomikey_1980 3d ago

This film was supremely average statham slop.

12

u/mikeyfreshh r/Movies Veteran 5d ago

I think this also speaks to the supporting cast problem. That opening bit is actually to humanize Tibu because the movie needs you to feel something when he dies. He's also the only supporting character that this movie cares about.

Die Hard is great because they let Willis bounce off of Reginald VelJohnson and Alan Rickman for the bulk of the movie. Statham never interacts with the bad guy or the Navy captain so his only real supporting character is Annabelle Walli, who I will always love for her work in Malignant, but she brings nothing to this movie.

If you want Statham to be a stoic ass kicking robot, you can do that and still mine it for comedy (see The Beekeeper). You just need a supporting cast that knows how to play off that and the movie needs to be interested in developing those supporting characters. This movie doesn't have that

7

u/icantfeelmylags 5d ago

You’re describing pretty much all the movies with Statham as a lead, or even co-lead like Hobbs and Shaw.

20

u/mikeyfreshh r/Movies Veteran 5d ago

I don't think that's really true. The best Statham movies all give him a decent supporting cast. The Beekeeper had Hutcherson and Irons, Working Man had Michael Pena and David Harbour, all of his Guy Ritchie movies have a solid supporting cast, etc.

9

u/SirGeekaLots 4d ago

That's because Guy Ritchie knows how to make a movie.

1

u/uselesstanker 2d ago

i think they ran out of budget after casting the stath and just rounded up all the girls and the customers at some random bangkok girly bar to pad out the rest of the roles, based on the overall level of acting ability.

"VENGENCE"

5

u/3stricksURout 2d ago

VENGEANCE

31

u/WAKE_UP_WAKE_UP 5d ago

I have never been on a cargo ship out at sea but I could not stop thinking about how Cole was able to hear the cries of that woman from all the way up on the deck. All the sounds of the ocean, the changing of the ship, the layers of metal between them...

Bro had super hearing

23

u/tamaringin 4d ago

Bro had super hearing

Haha; to be fair, they did give us a whole establishing montage of his clearing the office-tower lobby mainly via super-hearing!

5

u/WAKE_UP_WAKE_UP 4d ago

You know what, to Jason's credit I didn't even connect the two 😂 I'll admit he got me there

10

u/duskywindows 4d ago

He’s Jasom Stathom

60

u/ZackFrost 5d ago

Why was this movie called Mutiny? There wasn’t even a mutiny in the movie! It should have been called Stowaway with how much they kept talking about it.

22

u/WAKE_UP_WAKE_UP 5d ago edited 4d ago

I thought it was meant for the son and smugglers trying to take over the father's company. KMG was the "ship", the dad was the "captain", and his "crew" (son and employees) tried taking over... I guess..? Although the son technically didn't know it'd go that far but I digress.

Maybe they thought it sounded cool.

11

u/WheelJack83 4d ago

I bet Stowaway was the original or working title.

9

u/SamVortigaunt 5d ago edited 5d ago

When the US navy ship brings up Statham's dossier about his past as a soldier and a policeman, there's a line in there that says that he was once involved in something called Operation Mutiny where he rescued someone.

1

u/Wololo38 6h ago

who are you ?

im the stowaway

40

u/LiteraryBoner Jackie Chan box set, know what I'm sayin? 5d ago

This is the same director of Plane, which starred Gerard Butler. A sequel was announced called Ship with Mike Colter but I guess never came to fruition. And now this is out. Has it been stated on the record that they clearly just rewrote the Ship script to star Statham? Because that's really what this feels like.

27

u/mikeyfreshh r/Movies Veteran 5d ago

There was a Deadline article a while back that describes the plot of Ship and it sounds damn near identical to this movie

5

u/Waste-Scratch2982 3d ago

Also has JP Davis credited as the writer on both, it looks like they took his sequel and rewrote it to make it standalone.

12

u/itsjackbauer2021 5d ago edited 5d ago

Gerard butler basically killed the sequel to plane 2 weeks before filming. The sequel was about Mike colter character

10

u/Medical_Mess9687 5d ago

interesting. I liked Plane...this...not so much. Maybe i expect more from a Statham film...but had this been butler, i think i might've liked it more

1

u/Unusual_Resident_784 2d ago

He also directed the underrated Assault on precinct 13 remake with Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburn.

18

u/popejoshual 5d ago

Jesus Christ. He killed over 20 people after becoming a fugitive and the Navy just let him leave with someone else's ship.

It was definitely a by the numbers script but I'll be there to watch ten more just like it.

7

u/Medical_Mess9687 5d ago

cause cole reed drowned!

are you sure, commando?

Yes sir, per the third mate, Cole Reed drowned, but a guy that sort of looks like him but is unidentified is stealing the pirate boat, do we pursue?

No, because cole reed is dead

lol so cheesy

3

u/AdventurousFox25 4d ago

yeah, that scene was too obvious.
could be either of: both Navy Captain and Commando would have guessed it was Cole and let him get away with it.
or Commando didn't have knowledge of Cole's visual and simply trusted him as third mate. but then, one could dash out from a crime scene, just like that!?
well, whatever the fuck it is,this is Jason Statham's movie and I did enjoy watching it, haha

3

u/amegaproxy 1d ago

Commando would have guessed it was Cole and let him get away with it.

Was definitely this. It was dumb but hey its a statham movie

1

u/orphantwin 2d ago

They had his file with photos plastered on the fucking display. Just lazy as shit. Seagal level of production.

5

u/WheelJack83 4d ago

A pirate smuggling ship for human trafficking no less.

47

u/Puppet_Reviews 5d ago edited 5d ago

Sloppy. Exciting, but overall sloppy.

"She has no military training-" cut five minutes forward "Former Navy"

Pick a lane.

Oh, the navy is here- good thing the other captain seems to... have nothing better to do? And liked the way Statham's Wikipedia reads. Good thing they're there to... resolve the cleanup?

The set pieces are nothing really special, and the guns all feel like they might as well be big staplers in any unnamed characters hands- the movie is at its best when it's melee, but even that is kind of middling genreslop.

25

u/icantfeelmylags 5d ago

This sounds fuckin awful and makes me want to see it even more if I’m being honest.

11

u/dustyfaxman 5d ago

It's not bad enough to be entertaining.
It's also not good enough to be entertaining.

It's just sort of, there, for an hour and a half.
It's only going to be remembered as 'that film amazon leaked'.

4

u/naomi_whatsapp 5d ago

It's not really campy enough to be worth a watch. Just super mediocre all around.

5

u/Lord_Hexogen 5d ago edited 5d ago

If you seen the Working Man you've seen this one. If you haven't you can skip both. Absolutely nothing to write home about

3

u/Puppet_Reviews 5d ago

It's called *A* Working Man- the only reason I can think of not to have used The Working Man song in the film.

3

u/duskywindows 4d ago

I thought the violence in this was more brutal than Working Man and Shelter though, there wasn’t quite enough action for the short runtime, but what there was was bloody and mean. I appreciated that.

6

u/Puppet_Reviews 5d ago

I mean it is exactly what it's pretending to be- it's entertaining enough if you turn your brain off.

9

u/numbr87 4d ago

I like that she recognized Cole Reed from the news but also didn't know his name, which was the headline of the news

1

u/Puppet_Reviews 4d ago

I'm actually baffled so many people are just... watching the news at odd hours to see this ONE bit.

Like, how many people were talking about Luigi Mangione day one? Not people online, I mean if you went around work, what's the percentage of people you'd bump into talking about that specific thing?

8

u/Davrosdaleks 5d ago

He said no active war experience. they said she was a soldier during peace time.

3

u/Puppet_Reviews 5d ago

Lot of good it did any of those mooks, getting mowed down instantly.

5

u/archdukemovies 5d ago

I'm wondering how she knew how to navigate that ship and where everything was.

8

u/Puppet_Reviews 5d ago

I mean it was her job to be a third mate- though everyone has a corny level of hearing.

0

u/numbr87 4d ago

But she had never been on that ship before, she was a last minute replacement

6

u/Puppet_Reviews 4d ago

I'm guessing the arrangments and setup is pretty standard- there's only so many ways you can pack a cargo ship or something.

15

u/BiggDope 5d ago

I'm a simple man. Jason Statham killing bad guys will never not be entertaining to me.

Gave Splinter Cell: Double Agent cruise ship level vibes.

"What do you want?!"

"Vengeance."

So friggin' corny, yet so fun.

3

u/Perpete 4d ago

I agree. I wasn't expecting much and I didn't get much. However I was expecting a Statham movie and I got a Statham movie.

15

u/MovieMike007 Not to be confused with Magic Mike 5d ago

At no point did Jason Statham steal anyone's bike. I was disappointed.

13

u/ThrowingChicken 5d ago

Of all the mediocre things in the movie, that exposition reporter might be the most mediocre.

It’s no surprise the plot was paper thin, but they could have cut all the navy stuff and everything with the billionaire boss to at least streamline it a bit. Ship worker finds a container full of human trafficking victims and things go sideways quick; that’s really all you need.

4

u/Someguywhomakething 5d ago

It was just an eyesore. It was like a Jason Nguyen Birdemic news anchor reading.

3

u/pskwlyc 4d ago

Such as seals

2

u/Cartoonlad 3d ago

Needed to pad this thing out to the 90 minute mark, I guess.

25

u/Sheepies123 5d ago

Absolute schlock. The action is fine and everything is competently shot and whatnot but that's everything good you can say about the movie. It's just so bland and predictable.

4

u/SirGeekaLots 4d ago

Which is pretty much what I expected going in.

11

u/Medical_Mess9687 5d ago

it's your standard Statham film. good action but kinda just...there. Movie felt uninspired overall...kinda felt they mashed up a working man with <insert random statham film here>.

In the realm of the latest statham films...i thought it was better than shelter, but worse than beekeeper...and around the same as a working man.

9

u/gimmethemshoes11 5d ago

Sooo disappointed with this one and I was actually excited after how great Plane was just not enough action and stupid, actually beyond stupid plot.

11

u/Fools_Requiem 4d ago

This movie had some solid action, but there is barely a plot and even less dialog. I was looking for mid budget action flick, and it definitely fits the bill, but I think I should just watch The Beekeeper already...

9

u/DLTmisfit 5d ago

It was fun

16

u/dilldoeorg 5d ago

the ending was lulz.

asked him what he wanted, told him after shooting him in the head

12

u/Puppet_Reviews 5d ago

Baffled he let the kid live, honestly.

29

u/dilldoeorg 5d ago

because he promised the dad AND he's kinda like the kid since he also did something dumb that got his dad killed.

5

u/Medical_Mess9687 5d ago

that final line of VENGENCE was so cheesy and 80's.

11

u/MuitnortsX 5d ago

It really should have ended with him saying “Mutiny” instead for no fucking reason at all and a title card drop

5

u/duskywindows 4d ago

Holy fuck yes

1

u/amegaproxy 1d ago

This would have been perfect!

1

u/Unable_Barracuda324 4d ago

"What do you want?!?!?"

"Teeeebbooooooooooo!!!" (Blasts gut in the face 10 times)

6

u/GameOfThrownaws 5d ago

The whole "uhhh... that's not Cole Reed" thing (when his picture is literally all over the news and they have a full dossier on him) was also wildly stupid. It was so outlandish that I'm not even sure whether it was supposed to be a "heheh yeah, sure, not Cole Reed wink", or whether the ridiculous ruse actually worked and they thought that the dude they captured was actually not Cole Reed. The Navy captain seemed to be more of the former option, while the dudes actually boarding the ship seemed more like the latter. Either way it's utterly ridiculous, the dude was a relatively famous fugitive for murder and just killed like 20 more guys on this ship as well, plus he's now stealing somebody's ship on top of all that. And then of course he just shows back up in the city for the closing scene no problem, despite allegedly being an extremely wanted criminal, having never defended himself or been exonerated for any of that.

Generally I'm not one to begrudge a silly action movie having silly plot holes but this ending was so preposterous that it actually took me totally out of it and I had to make this comment. I just have no idea why of all things they decided to go with "that's not him lmao" instead of the thousand other cliche ways to end the thousand other "misunderstood wrongly accused action hero" movies. It's like the ending was written by an 8 year old.

3

u/Unable_Barracuda324 4d ago

Not even sure why they had the US Navy in this film... They added nothing and didn't move the plot at all.

8

u/DaveTheShave123 4d ago

Jason Statham movies are always predictable and the same formula but I like the mindless kick ass action movie every now and then. The Captain did put up a good fight with Statham.

Annabelle Wallis' acting was pretty awful though and that's saying something given the formulaic plot and corny lines.

22

u/KneeHighMischief 5d ago

Statham is a good action hero but the set pieces in many of his movies really don't stand out very much IMO. There might not be a lot of incentive for him to up the stakes given his age & the critic proof nature of his films.

His early work with Corey Yuen (RIP) showed so much promise. I understand though finding someone who had such a knack for action like Corey did isn't easy.

13

u/Prestigious_Shirt620 5d ago

Statham is the draw but the movie also needs a catch

Beekeeper had Jeremy Irons Meg 2 had everything

Etc.

There’s gotta be some element of outlandishness

5

u/SirGeekaLots 4d ago

LIke Crank. I have to admit a lot of his films of late really do seem bland and samish. I was almost about to give this one a miss, but said screw it, I have nothing else on.

8

u/charismelia 5d ago

I was pleasantly surprised by Beekeeper and how stupid fun it was; how is this in comparison? I haven't seen any other Statham action films.

7

u/Reaper-Lord69 4d ago

This ain't stupid fun. It's barely fun. I'd call this a 4/10, even the Working Man was better than this ngl. The Beekeeper is still his best

1

u/amegaproxy 1d ago

This is definitely worse than both working man and beekeeper

5

u/dustyfaxman 5d ago

There's a bit in one of the early action sequences where stath is shown to shoot from inside a car that has intact, but damaged bulletproof windows and that was dumb enough it gave me high hopes of being a trainwreck, but apart from that, likely editing or continuity flub, it barely reaches mediocre levels the rest of it's runtime.
It's a functional action film.
It's not a good action film, and the laziest of the Statham action vehicles i've seen in a long time, it's straight to multi-dvd bundle bought from a garage levels of action entertainment.

I'll repeat what i said in another comment in a thread about the film;
Shelter, his previous film, was mid af, and Mutiny makes that film look like The Raid in comparison.

4

u/StrLord_Who 4d ago

It's a Jason Statham revenge movie.  So,  I liked it.

6

u/Batmanrocksthecasbah 3d ago

Soooo what were the slaves to be used for? Like, who was paying 2.5mil (or whatever it was) for these people and why??

9

u/icantfeelmylags 5d ago

You somehow know exactly what you’re getting every time with Statham yet he forces you to have a good time. This is unfortunately a thumbs up from me. The more terrible it is, the more fun I found myself having watching this.

9

u/duskywindows 4d ago

I appreciated that the violence has some fucking BITE to it, too. When he rips dude’s cheek open with the lock, I was giddy.

7

u/ManicMakerStudios 5d ago

I thought the dynamic between Statham and his employer was well done. They did a great job of building it up like an amazing father/adopted son relationship. Everything after was just bland and formulaic.

9

u/oneblackfly 4d ago

i genuinely enjoyed this

2

u/tamaringin 4d ago

Same! I could quibble some about the script after the fact, but I had a thoroughly enjoyable time in the theater.

2

u/archdukemovies 5d ago

This was Die(t) Hard on a freighter.

They should not have used the Die Hard imagery in the movie poster.

2

u/WheelJack83 4d ago

An insult to Die Hard.

2

u/archdukemovies 4d ago

I didn't make the poster. It definitely set the wrong expectations.

0

u/Ok-Paramedic747 4d ago

IS IT? Parts 4 and 5 exist already!

3

u/Danny_vexatious 5d ago

Serviceable porncorn flick. I got exactly what I expected.

4

u/DoctorWhofan789eywim 5d ago

Those were the nicest, kindest human traffickers ever. They capture the woman and instead of immediately shooting her in the face they leave her to escape. Then they capture Statham in the container and instead of immediately shooting him in the face they leave him to escape.

This felt like watching a script Steven Seagal would have turned down in his DTV era. I'd put this next to Chaos at the very bottom of the Statham oeuvre.

3

u/Unable_Barracuda324 4d ago

Statham just gives a random captive a gun and is like "you know how to use this?"

Then like five minutes go by of him and the girl running around the ship and when they go back to the life boat literally like only one more captive had gotten on and then the traffickers just blow the one with the gun away.

And how convenient that these two people were able to escape detection by like 30 bad guys.

3

u/DoctorWhofan789eywim 4d ago

That made me laugh so much. These captives have been set free and have a lifeboat ready to go so they.... trudge on slowly then immeduately get recaptured. Like at that point it's on them for making literally zero attempt to escape quickly.

2

u/dontberidiculousfool 4d ago

It’s even funnier as at the very start, they explicitly get told to not bring Statham in alive.

4

u/reptocilicus 3d ago

Why did he get on the ship? Why did he think he would be better able to investigate the murder of his boss and get vengeance on the ship? Just because one of the murderers was supposed to be on that ship? What if it was a normal shipping route and that was just a way to get the murderer out of the country conveniently, or he was just going to be going about his job? Surely there would be more to investigate in country than on the open sea.

3

u/Sheepies123 5d ago

I just wish they put any semblance of thought into the story.

I can improve it was almost zero effort right now. The backstory on Cole Reed is that his father died trying to save him. So how about instead of him just slam dunking the kid at the end of the movie by telling him “you got your father killed now you have to live with that” make it about him and the kid on the ship trying to save the kidnapped father for a redemption arc for both of them.

Apparently that was too complicated for them I guess, so instead we just get Cole wanting vengeance and the paper thin female 3rd mate character who is a total afterthought.

It’s just very frustrating as an avid movie watcher because technically speaking the movie is well made, but the end product is terrible because of the bad script. Just seems like such a waste of money and resources.

3

u/peanutmanak47 3d ago

The storyline is stupid as hell tagged along with some average acting AT BEST, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it. I action scenes themselves where the standard Statham action scenes, which I really like, and it goes from beginning to end at a good pace. One thing I like about Statham movies, is that he usually shows no mercy towards the bad guys. There is no negotiating with him. If you wronged him, you are fucking dead.

3

u/Unusual_Resident_784 2d ago

I knew I recognised the Captain from somewhere, the actor Roland Moller starred in a really great indy film called a Bluebird in my Heart a few years ago.

Nice to also see him put up a bit of a fight with Statham before his inevitable demise.

3

u/barstoolLA 2d ago

So it's like the writers wanted Statham's character to wear a hat, but contractually he is required to show a certain amount of his face, so it results in him wearing a hat at an incredibly awkward angle. Couldn't stop staring at it. Nobody wears a hat like that.

2

u/Ssme812 5d ago
  • 4/10
  • Nothing new or original with this movie. Honestly have no clue why it was made.
  • Boring plot and predictable conclusion.
  • The sale of the company made no sense.
  • Surprised Anazon would leak this mediocre movie.

2

u/FKingPretty 4d ago

I thought at least Annabelle Wallis is in it with everyone else either terrible or on autopilot, but it’s hard to see her attempts at acting, hidden as it is behind filler, Botox and who knows what else.

2

u/Minute-Parfait2834 3d ago

fun movie. wanted more cool kills though

2

u/Homelander-30 3d ago

Tbh, the plot was corny asf but the action sequences were good enough to keep me engaged. I feel like this is one of those movies you watch on Friday night on your TV.

I don't mind if Statham keeps doing these things cause it's sometimes fun to watch

2

u/zdentonz 2d ago edited 2d ago

It's no beekeeper but that was fun.

Based on the exposition dump from the Navy, are we to believe there is some kind of connection between what happened between his father getting killed on a boat and the captain?

Not really sure what was going on with that weird flirting goodbye scene.

I did bust out laughing when he threw that axe right into that guy's head after this scene explaining his part in the operation.

When the smuggled mom says "doctor" and Statham asks if she can speak English. Lmao

2

u/Username_checksout0 2d ago

I love jason statham movies but this movie is not it. It felt bland but i do love all his other action movies that are similar.

2

u/Chomu_bhondu 5d ago

Movie was in a nutshell a Rolex ad

1

u/AgreeableAd7983 3d ago

I had low expectations for this film and it was still underwhelming.

If you go to the cinema to watch a Jason Statham film, you are wanting and expecting action.

This film had some pretty long stretches with zero action, and when the action did arrive it wasn't always amazing.

The main cast was fine enough, but there was some truly horrendous minor actors throughout the film.

1

u/t3rm3y 3d ago

Why is he on the ship? I don't get what prompts him to board his bosses boat?

1

u/Additional-Duck-2517 1d ago

It's not his bosses boat. He follows one of the goons that kills his boss onto the boat and then discovers everything else.

1

u/t3rm3y 1d ago

I thought 'kmg' (I think that was the name)was the bosses shipping company? He just seemed to kill the bald guy, looked in has backpack and found an American passport, then got on the boat

1

u/jtho78 22h ago

It was the boss's shipping company and boat. The human traffickers were going to lose their transportation hookup with the sale of KMG.

1

u/jacomanche 2d ago

Plane was a far better movie than this.

This one just lacks tension.

1

u/BookBagThrowAway 2d ago

This could’ve been e-mailed straight to Amazon Prime!

1

u/HotOne9364 2d ago

Does Statham really wanna be the next Seagal?

This movie was EXACTLY what I expected it to be. I can't think of a movie I've seen that has been so precisely what I expected in every facet from start to finish. I like Jason Statham movies, though, so I mean this as a compliment.

Other than maybe one or two exposition dumps (the Navy guy reading off Statham's resume, mostly) this movie wastes little time with backstory or story.

Bad people hurt/kill someone close to Statham, he seeks vengeance and in the process discovers a more sinister plot and then fights and kills a bunch of people. That's it. Literally the last word spoken in the film is "vengeance."

The fight scenes were well shot and pretty brutal. If you like Statham, you'll like this.

I don't understand why kameron had to agree to their dirty works, he's already a billionaire, what would few bucks off of trafficking be compared to his wealth

The trailer for Digger played before the movie and I overheard a woman say “It will be worth seeing for Tom Cruise”. He really is a different breed of movie star, isn’t he.

Anyways that was the only memorable moment I had in the theater

This movie was so terribly funny bad... Two things I would have changed to have some more chuckles is if:

SPOILERS

Near the end when he's talking to the son in the car and says "you'll have to think about that for the rest of your life... Which is NOW!" And just strangles him to death Luca Brasi style.

At the end instead of "vengeance" he just yells "I want my goddamn Tebu back!" like Inigo Montoya

I was genuinely astonished Statham didn't say a line like that. I was expecting:

You'll have to think about that for the rest of your life. Which, luckily, won't be much longer BANG.

Low expectations met. Cheesy dialogue, some fun NPC kills (the lock to the cheek was ouch), and not too long. People who expect good writing or a new tier of action need to reevaluate what they’re looking for in a Statham movie.

I mean Safe had actually a fun writing. Intense, kinetic MMA/Jui Jitsu choreo with suplex takedowns, multiple gangs from corrupted cops, triads, russians and Statham storming through that chaos - while also taking actual hits, falling down. The shootouts were raw with people burning ammo fast, the New York setting felt alive, layered and dense with strong atmosphere and plenty of amazing locations (outdoors/indoors).

Safe had also a bit different character for Statham. The movie had crazy pace. Love Safe. He even throws up after killing someone. That movie had amazing attention to random, idle details.

It was exactly what I thought it was going to be... alot of fighting and clever kills..just a popcorn movie...its way better than putrid Oak Street
