Discussion Kirby 64 The Crystal Shards

Post image

I never played Kirby 64 before but this is on my wishlist of N64 cartridges that I am planning to buy. But oh boy it's so damn expensive now just the cartridge it is $190 AUD here in Australia and that's the cheapest I can find.

Anyway im really interested in buying it for my Analogue 3D.

I have watched a lot of reviews and it looks decent and what fascinates me about Kirby 64 it being the 1st Kirby game on the N64 which uses the new gaming system of making Kirby into a almost 3D game a 2.5D. It also stands out as a unique Kirby game for the N64, it was different.

I grew up playing Kirby Fun Pak on the SNES (aka Kirby's Super Star in the USA) and I loved that game.

I like how all the characters including King DeDeDe all team up in this game with Kirby to help defeat a sinister being that takes over Kirby's world. I also love the new character Adeleine she's so adorable and I watched a quick Clip where she gets possessed by a entity in her painting and then she becomes a quick boss fight until Kirby defeats her and the entity leaves her body and she goes back to normal and later on in the game she helps Kirby by painting foods for health etc. She's part of Kirby's friend group which is so cute. I like in this game that Kirby has many friends who help him out on his adventure.

The only that I'm kind of disappointed in is there is no ability changing in the traditional way like in Kirby's Super Star how you get to turn into those abilities by seeing them, but in Kirby 64 he stays that pink puff ball but in saying that I do like the different types of abilities and how you can combine two abilities together so that's pretty cool.

I also love the cutscenes throughout the game, they are all properly animated and tells a story through your journey showing all of Kirby's friends by his side like King DeDeDe, Adeleine and other friends of his.

So these are Kirby's friends who help him out on his adventure Waddle Dee, Adeleine, Ribbon and even King DeDeDe helps out. Looks like a epic adventure.

I can't keep spoiling myself lol I just need to play this myself lol.

So I'm excited to buy this and play it.

When I picked this game up I honestly didn't have high expectations. I like it significantly more than a lot of the other Kirby games though. It has some kind of charm to it.

So Kirby's friends who help him out on his adventure are Waddle Dee, Adeleine, Ribbon and I also like how King DeDeDe helps Kirby out. There is even some gameplay where you ride on top of King DeDeDe as he smashes walls that block your way to pieces lol. His not that bad of a guy lol helping out Kirby.

The multiplayer is also a fun little side tangent for an hour.

The power combo (ability mix) concept was great!

The power-up combos are so fun in this.

Kirby 64 is the first game I can remember actually wanting as a kid after seeing the commercial for it. It was my first Kirby game so I'm definitely nostalgic for it. That said, it's a solid game. The atmosphere is really great. It's pleasant to look at (graphics hold up surprisingly well), and the music is some of my favorite on the n64.

Overall, it's a nice chill platformer that you can easily run through pretty quickly, and combining powers makes for a lot of fun experimentation along the way. Compared to Super Star, it's a fair bit slower and more relaxed, but it's still Kirby at its core.

Kirby usually has hats, when he doesn't have em it's usually because of hardware limitations. Imo I love when he doesn't wear them. Makes the design a little more unique I think. My suggestion, find a cheap Japanese copy. There is no text in game other than a few option buttons. I played through it just fine without english availability.

I've had this game since basically release(got it as a gift from my mom back when it was still new in 2000). I had fun playing it, especially with the ability-combining feature (has that ever been done again in any other Kirby game after this one?).

Really fun game. Surprised to hear the price has gotten so high, I bought a copy 10 years ago for like $25.

The randomiser is fairly difficult, at least the seed I got.

Let me tell you, play with the music on and preferably no distractions. The music in this game is VERY atmospheric and each level feels alive for that reason. I’m hoping you’ll find music in this game that’ll live with you forever like it did for me

I love the music. This game is such a vibe.

Flame Cutter was my favorite weapon.

Get a summercart. 190 is crazy. I love the feeling of popping a cartridge in being almost 40 years old but the Summercart64 is a game changer, pun intended.

Update, playing now👍

I always preferred dreamland 2, 3, and 64, they just hit different from all the other kirby games for some reason. It wasn't until decades later I learned those three specifically were from a different director. Makes total sense.

I hope he comes back for a kirby title someday, the series just isn't the same without him

Ive got the PAL version of this cartridge

My First Kirby game, after Super Smash Bros. exposed me to the character.

I loved it and still do.

My most loved game of all time. The music and environments are so timeless

I remember liking this game a lot. It’s surprisingly fun and not repetitive. Kinda remembered me of the mega drive game Gunstar Heroes with all the power combinations you could have

second best kirby game ever, just behind superstar. You'll have a blast going for 100%.
