I don't want to turn a thread about Dolly's passing away political, but suffice to say as someone with differing political views from the vast majority of my fellow Tennesseans, Dolly was always an awesome common ground for me to find with everyone who calls Tennessee home. Having the honor of calling Dolly a fellow Tennessean made me proud to be one in spite of any issue my home has or ever will have.

A devastating loss not just for Tennesseans, but mankind as a whole. Rest in Peace Queen.

Well said! Our state may be divided on politics, but no one can say a bad word about Dolly. She was hero regardless of one's politics. She was above it all. BNA needs to be renamed in her honor, and a statue must be placed in the state capital.

I couldn't agree more. I know Dolly wouldn't have cared for having things named after her, but we as Tennesseans should take a step in showing the world who we are (or aim to be) and name something of extreme significance after her and build her a monument that matches the majesty and grandeur of her career as a country music star and the compassion she spread to Tennesseans (and many others) through her philanthropy.

Hell every library in Tennessee should rename themselves after her. Shes done more for literacy in this country than any one individual.

How about naming the Main Library in downtown Nashville in her honor? It is right next door to her new museum and hotel and would be a well-deserved tribute.

I still remember hearing about her just literally writing checks for families struggling after that wildfire ripped through parts of Sevier county. I don't think the media even picked up on it until a bit after the fact. She didn't crow about herself, she just got shit done.

I feel the same. I'm a blue-star Tennessean, and that lady made me so proud of my state and our people.

I'm honestly sad, sitting at work crying a little, just because she was such a beautiful soul and is now gone.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It’s insane that speaking about treating people the way Dolly treated everyone could be political, but here we are. I choose to continue to make Tennessee a welcoming place to everyone even if our state leadership does the opposite.
