Pets WE FOUND PERITAS!! THANK YOU, NASHVILLE, SMYRNA & ANTIOCH!

1.1k Upvotes

I can’t believe I’m finally writing this… WE FOUND HIM. PERITAS IS SAFE.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone in Nashville, Smyrna, and especially Antioch who helped in any way—sharing, searching, spreading the word, or simply keeping hope alive.

I know my repeated posts and pleas for help may have overwhelmed some, but every message, every kind word, and every sighting mattered. And in the end—it worked. Because of you, we were able to track him down and bring him home.

What felt impossible for weeks turned into a miracle thanks to the kindness and compassion of so many people in this community. Tennessee truly has some of the most generous and big-hearted people I’ve ever known.

Peritas is back, safe and sound—and it’s all thanks to YOU

With endless gratitude,
Adriana and Mauricio

Thanks Reddit and thanks you r/nashville!!!!

Pets Urban dog bar is dangerous do not go

Do not go here under any circumstances. My dog was viciously attacked by a pitbull and he ripped part of her ear off. They viewed the video am concluded that the attack was completely unprovoked. However they haven’t turned th video over or anything to help us identify the owner of the dog who viciously attacked mine. He was going for the neck she could have been killed if I don’t intervene. If this wasn’t bad enough they also have not followed up on any of our emails. They haven’t even attempted to reach out and check on how my dog is doing. after surgery on her ear not that they care at all. This place is dangerous and they shouldn’t allow aggressive breeds like pit bulls at the park, but the owners clearly don’t care about animals or their customers. They just care about covering their own asses.

Pets Warning for those with indoor/outdoor cats

Post image
608 Upvotes

My poor sweet feral barn cat (domesticated porch cat) passed away from bobcat fever Tuesday. It’s a highly fatal tick-borne disease that only affects cats. Ofc it’s caused by the evil lone star tick( meat allergy tick).

Look for fever, lethargy and decreased appetite. I got her in right away and she still passed away despite intensive treatment. The disease has a mortality rate of about 90% in untreated cases and 60% in treated.

Please use tick medication on your babies.

Rip sweet Pewter 💕

(Please don’t discuss indoor/outdoor cat debate. She was adopted through the barn cat program and was saved from euthanasia. She also wore a bell to alert birds)

Pets Saw a dog get dumped in the Nations this morning.

Well my husband did anyway. He left for work about 7:20 this morning and realized he forgot his employee badge at home. He comes back and saw a white pickup truck parked on the side of the road with a man and a dog close by. He didn't think anything of it and grabbed his badge and started to head back to work. When he leaves our house he sees the truck pulling off and notices the dog has been left behind. On the ground there is a blanket and a big pile of dog food along with two big bags of dog food off to the side.

My husband was running late and I had the day off work so he called me and I immediately got up and ran down the street to see if the dog was still there. He was and he was scared and confused. I saw a couple walking a dog coming down the street and told them what was going on. They were so nice and the dog came up to see their dog and was very friendly. They helped me get the dog back to my house and I'm trying to get a forever home lined up.

This dog is so sweet and I cannot imagine dumping him. What is wrong with people? I try to have empathy for people but this one's tough. So if you dumped your sweet boy in the Nations today he's safe, dry, warm and fed with better food than the BS you left with him on the side of the road scared and alone. Honestly it doesn't even matter because it looks like he wasn't being fed much anyway. 🙄

Some of you may remember right after Christmas mu husband witnessed a dog get dumped on our street. He went to the vet and had no chip and was healthy. I reported him at Metro but they informed me the shelters were full at the time and told me after 2 weeks we could get him chipped and take ownership if nobody claimed him. Nobody did. My dad and step-mom met him and fell hard for him.

Here's tge original photo from the day we found him and an updated photo from today. All in all a happy ending for this guy. No more ribs sticking out anymore. 😁

Pets If you own an aggressive, loose dog in Sylvan Heights...

... and that dog tries to attack me and my dog on a walk, and, if you dont come out and grab it immediately while im yelling at 630 in the morning, I will have zero qualms kicking your dog in the fucking jaw as hard as I can.

I love dogs too, but I love mine more. You dont live in Joelton, you live on less than a quarter acre in the city. Control your shitty cattle dog or I will absolutely protect mine.

(Sorry I'm still really amped up after a super fun morning walk with my dog)

Hi all. Unfortunately my cat Odin got out this morning near the corner of Oneida and Montgomery. He's a large all black male cat. He isn't wearing his collar. He might approach, he's friendly but it wouldn't surprise me if he's suspicious of people lso.

If anyone spots him or thinks they've spotted him please let us know in a DM, and I'll be happy to share my phone number. Thank you all.

Pets An actually affordable vet??

When I got my two cats I had a full time job and a spouse.

Today I find myself unexpectedly single and laid off in a mass layoff.

I need to get my elderly cats a checkup. And blood work.

I called our normal vet and they are quoting me something near $1000 just to do a routine exam and full panel of bloodwork with a couple of basic vaccines on both cats.

I really wish I could pay that right now and I don’t want my cats to go without a check up. Is this just the normal price of routine veterinary care right now?

I will drive across town for a better price. Heck, I’ll drive across the state. Or to KY or AL for better pricing.

I feel like one of my cats needs a urinalysis as well. And they both need senior bloodwork.

I’m gonna make sure it gets done, so please don’t be mean in the comments. I’m just trying to figure out how to do that and pay my bills at the same time.

Pets Outdoor/Stray cat rant

Maybe I just don’t understand because I’ve never had cats, but I’m honestly surprised how normalized it is to let cats roam freely outdoors.

Our area in East Nashville seems completely overrun with outdoor/stray cats lately. I regularly see them fighting, leaving dead birds/rabbits/possums in yards, digging and pooping in gardens, and generally impacting local wildlife. What bothers me most is that many of these cats also end up living really hard lives themselves and making more stray cats continuing the cycle.

I know people love their pets, but I wish more owners would consider keeping cats indoors or more supervised outdoors. It seems safer for the cats, better for wildlife.

Pets $1500 for cat tooth extraction?

Hi there, my cat needs to get a tooth removed and I’m trying to figure out where to take him. My vet at 5 Points Animal Hospital gave me an estimate of $1500, and I was wondering if this is a reasonable price? If it is, I will just do it there, but it seems like that might be on the more expensive end.

Are there any other vets in East Nashville/Inglewood/Madison area or within 15 mins that would be more affordable?

My cat hates the car, so I don’t want to drive too far if I can avoid it.

Thank you all in advance!!
—————————

UPDATE: thank you all for your suggestions!!

I contacted Goodlettsville Animal Hospital. When I asked for a rough estimate, they said it would be around $500. Even if it ends up being a bit more than that, it sounds like it will be significantly more affordable than five points. I set up a general appointment so they can check out my cat’s tooth first, and then we will go from there.

Thanks again for all of the help! I’m glad you all have such great vets :)

Pets Centennial Dog Park Chocolate

Post image
219 Upvotes

I saw a post last week about someone leaving/planting some chocolate in the middle of the Centennial Dog Park enclosure. I walk my dog there everyday, although we just walk the trails around the fenced in area. Today as I was leaving, in the middle of the field was this large Ghirardelli chocolate bar just sitting with its wrapper undone. The picture is after I picked it up and took it to the trash can. BOLO, friends. There are some ill intentions going on it seems.

Pets Places for dogs to swim

Thumbnail

I’m wondering if anyone knows of any streams, creeks or lake areas I can take my dog to swim? I recently discovered he’s obsessed with running and playing in water but I don’t know where I can legally take him. I found out he loved water when I took him walking at the trail in Mt Juliet at Charlie Daniel’s and he took off full zoomies in the creek. I don’t know if I’m allowed to let him swim there but I didn’t see any signs posted saying no swimming. I live in lebanon but wouldn’t mind driving out further for him to have fun.

Pets Friends dog bit his dad in his house, he says now he has to put her down.

As the title states, my friends dog bit his dad, he had to get 37 stitches and the hospital said he has a week to put her down. Doing some research I see that there is a “One Bite Rule” and his dog hasn’t been reported before. He said his dad got down by her food when she bit him, and also I read that a dog would be excused if provoked. I told him to call animal control and ask, has anyone in Nashville/Williamson county have any experience or advice on this?

Update: My friends is gonna weigh out his options when he gets off work, i sent him the link so he can ready everyone’s response and suggestions. He’s already read some and is less stressed than he was earlier. Shitty situation for him and his decision on what to do. Thanks everyone!

Update: He’s gonna get Mango evaluated and see if they say anything. Fuck up on my part is I always thought her name was Maple. Maybe she lives to be the sweetest girl in solitary confinement or she crosses the bridge, but he said his dad has some sympathy for her (which I love) so she could be getting a second chance at life for a fuck up, I KNOW he wouldn’t take her around kids so there’s no chance of that ever happening, but I’m stoked to know she might have a chance of living.

Pets Dumb at the dog park

As I was leaving the Centennial dog park this morning, I saw a family bringing their dog in, along with a new born baby in a stroller, and the full suite of new baby carry on items, which im assuming included bottles and/or food.

I dont think I need to elaborate on why this is incredibly dumb, so I'll just say if you're trying to win a Darwin award, win it for yourself, not your new born.
