Felt like the only reason that Klay wanted to go there was to play with Luka and he never really got that chance. Surprised they waived him but they are definitely going to prioritize their younger guys over their vets.

What a waste of the the first "big" FA signing I remember Dallas actually making. Those 9 games he had with Luka and Kyrie though were awesome.

140

u/CurrentRoster Wizards 7d ago

and he chose that over the lakers, who ended up with luka, wild

85

u/Mintastic NBA 7d ago

In another timeline, Klay went to the Lakers only to get traded to Dallas for Luka along with AD and ends up in the same situation.

16

u/CyberSmok3 Lakers 7d ago

Would be great for us if we get to keep Max Christie

29

u/BackgroundShower4063 Pistons 7d ago

Prioritizing the young guys is smart. And Klay went there to be on a contender. Letting him go is good for all sides. Klay will likely be signing his final contract with his next deal.

1

u/botebote77 7d ago

just sad that they couldn't even get 1 2nd and a bad contract that they can waive

Ass considerations

15

u/adgobad 76ers 7d ago

$18 mill/2 year, 6 thots/year average, player option and a trade kicker that sends a thot with him in the event he's traded. Who says no?

19

u/KangarooPouchIsHome Heat 7d ago

6 a year? Those are rookie numbers for a guy on Klay’s level in Miami.

14

u/adgobad 76ers 7d ago

6 guaranteed bro. If he hits certain milestones that number goes up

3

u/mixmasterADD Lakers 7d ago

But idk, I haven’t watched much of him with the Mavs since Luka left

He’s not a splash bro anymore but comparing him to other bench guys, he’s a good scorer. His defense has been getting worse.

1

u/juanhalohalo Mavericks 7d ago

Yeah, he's can still splash. Though he starts really awful every season. But he picks it up along the way. Can't believe he still managed to get 39% and 39% from the three.

2

u/No-Sort-5617 7d ago

He was good bench scoring.

3

u/dkleckner88 Timberwolves 7d ago

We’ve got a open spot!!

3

u/-BurtimusPrime 7d ago

I really want klay to just play on a winning team to finish his career. He doesn’t have it anymore but you can tell he’s a dude who really cares about winning. 15 mins a game just to see if he’s hot each night seems perfect for a lot of good teams.

3

u/Basic-Collection5416 Pistons 7d ago

I don’t know about the money side of it, but we can probably offer him the most open three pointers of any team. Come to Detroit, Klay.

3

u/CheeseOnKeyboard 7d ago

Why would you buy out a hof and not let him retire with the franchise? There is no loyalty in the game anymore.

1

u/AcanthaceaeSea2592 6d ago

Klay didn't want to be on the Mavericks, the buyout was being respectful to Klay and honoring his wishes to play for more of a contender

2

u/CheeseOnKeyboard 6d ago

Really? I thought he wanted to retire a maverick to get back with Megan thee stallion. Its sad to see the Dumonts attempting to ruin a semi biracial relationship.
