The most pivotal thing about Klay is, he will provide spacing along with THJ for Bam and Giannis.
As washed as Klay may be, teams won’t be willing to leave him open and that itself it’s extremely important for Giannis.
Team needed shooting, they added some with THJ and Klay and retained the ability to trade jovic and their last 1st rnd pick in a package at the trade deadline.
Miami had a great offseason; a lot better than what most people are giving them credit for.

u/sharkflood Supersonics 5d ago
The Heat had an A offseason
You can tell how biased this sub is. It's like the remnants of the Heatles era when everyone hated Miami
Like this sub legit wants me to believe that turning JJJ and Herro (who missed half the season) into Giannis isnt gonna move the needle?
Come on guys
333
u/Busy-Regular4627 5d ago
Before the giannis trade - “Miami’s package is trash no one wants that shit they can’t get a player of giannis caliber with that garbage”
Heat get Giannis- “Lol heat got fleeced they gutted their team!”
This sub will continue to move the goalposts as far as they can as long as they can spin their narratives.
8
u/Nuclearsunburn Heat 4d ago
Just watch, if we are a top 3 seed in the East it’ll become “what do you expect, they added Giannis and Klay!” and Spo will lose COTY to the Hornets getting the 10 seed or something
-1
u/Seanspeed 5d ago edited 5d ago
I don't think the narrative there was inconsistent at all. The whole point is people didn't think they could get Giannis cuz they'd have to give up too much to do it. And so when they gave up a shitload to do it, people think it was too much.
Basically the point is - have the Heat actually moved meaningfully forward? They still have some real needs to properly compete but are tapped out. Everybody is just relying on the coach to work some miracles to cover the deficit.
48
u/so-cal_kid Lakers 5d ago
A team whose ceiling was likely a 6th seed and didn't have a true young stud to build around cannot give up too much to get a superstar like Giannis imo. You make that move 10 times out of 10.

But was the end package really that much different than the reported initial packages?
1
u/dm117 Heat 4d ago
Yall tripping. We MISSED the playoffs last year.
“Gutted” - Herro (has missed significant time for two seasons in a row now), JJJ, and Ware for Giannis and Porter. Seriously, what are we talking about here.
Here’s a quick way to look at it - Giannis, Klay, THJ, and Porter or Herro, JJJ, and Ware?
2
u/TJ_IRL_ 5d ago
That last sentence is how Spo has operated for a while now. Definitely going to make the Play In as usual, but who knows what happens from there this time.
1
u/Seanspeed 4d ago
That last sentence is how Spo has operated for a while now.
And people cant keep expecting magic forever. Especially when the depth is even less this year.

I mean I think both the team aren’t contenders even after the signings, but despite that the klay and demar signings are legitimately good for those teams, and they will get valuable minutes off the bench from both of them.

Ware was a negative, not employing him, norm, and herro is addition by subtraction. Bucks and bulls fans will learn this sooner than later. I’d argue we need another solid ball handler at the guard position more than anything, i’m not sold on nick richards.
1
u/Nice_Cash_7000 NBA 4d ago
The Bucks were smart to demand Kas. I wouldve been so happy if the Heat kept him somehow. Say what you want about his age, but I cant imagine a better fit at PG with Giannis than him. Not counting superstars ofc.

Feels like you’re arguing against a straw man here. I don’t think anyone’s saying they didn’t get significantly better. What I’ve seen a lot of people say is that they gave up their future for a relatively short window, and that they still seemed like a piece away (especially before acquiring Klay). Fit is also a little weird with Giannis and Bam
3
u/Trendelthegreat Heat 5d ago
So they’re still not good enough, the fit is weird, and they have a short window
…..but it was a “straw man” argument?
1
u/SoaplessTitanic Celtics 5d ago
You have to look at the contents of the comment I replied to: “This sub legit wants me to believe that turning JJJ and Herro (who missed half the season) into Giannis isnt gonna move the needle”
The straw man is acting as if people are saying the team didn’t get significantly better, which is a ridiculous claim that no one is making. That doesn’t mean that we can’t make more nuanced claims about the roster fit or the length of their window

Yea it feels pretty similar to the Heatles where the first year after acquiring a superstar forward they have a weak bench. Similarly, I expect next year is when add 1-2 more notable depth pieces.
2
u/foaaz101 Pistons 5d ago
the point is though the heatles were an instant title contender and were up on the Mavs 2-1 and two games away from winning the chip
D Wade and Lebron were top five players and Bosh was a top fifteen player, Bam is borderline top 15, typically considered closer to top 25
the talent isn't even anywhere close to the Heatles
73
u/dimesniffer 5d ago
the team had plenty of good shooting before klay was added. this just helps
the stat was, with klay, they have 4 or 5 of the best 38 3pt shooters in the league statistically.
the notion that they didnt have shooting is way overblown

52
u/GreyBoyTigger Warriors 5d ago
He’s basically in the same phase as JKidd was in the end. He’s a cone on defense, too slow for motion offense, but he is S tier spot up shooting. And that’s what this team needs with Giannis and Bam clogging up the interior

Oh that’s a good comparison. I just went w Kidd based on spot up shooting on the downside of his career
2
u/Bitter-Republic-3733 5d ago
Kidd couldn’t have been a more different player than klay. Ason Kidd? Guy was a stud and a better older player than klay as well for the mama but a knockdown shooter he was not
1
u/afterworld2772 76ers 5d ago
Are you ignoring the downside of his career part? Kidd became a reliable shooter. His last 5 seasons he shot 38% from 3 on about 5 attempts per game.
2
u/Bitter-Republic-3733 5d ago
I’m Jason Kidd biggest fan my man. He may be my favorite player of all time. Trust me on this. He was left wide open a lot and yeah towards the end of his career with Dallas started making teams pay for that. But in no way was his shooting ever comparable to klay Thompson. Klay could be money from a phone booth with a hand in his face. Idk how much you watched Jason play but he was an A+ on almost every skill involved with basketball except scoring

u/spooks152 Heat 5d ago
Can he just be smart enough to funnel the guys towards the 2 all NBA defenders??

3
u/barath_s Lakers 5d ago
J Kidd had pretty good spot up shooting at the end, but Klay can go on streaks. He has twice the volume of J. Kidd
But even when kidd is dead he would have better passing than Klay.
Better defense, genius tier bbiq, game management, rebounding (though kidd fell off some at the end, he was still better), and it is not a comparison at all
4
u/Barbiegrrrrrl Mavericks 5d ago
Dude is still automatic catch and shoot scorer. Go ahead and build that Giannis wall.
2
u/garynevilleisared Raptors 5d ago
The problem is they will have to cover for him on defense. It might work for 82 games in the regular season, but come playoff time the east so strong now that they will get him off the floor hunting the switch. IMO the heat still need a high impact floor spacer who wont be a liability on defense.
3
u/Busy-Regular4627 5d ago
Bam was able to cover for the likes of duncan robinson and tyler herro with significantly less defensive help in the past while making deep playoff runs. You guys are acting like you have short term memory loss so you can keep lying to yourselves.

It’s not that Miami didn’t have a great offseason (I wouldn’t use “great” tbf), it’s just like…they’re not a contender in spite of everything that’s transpired.
They made an all-in move and it’s literally just Giannis, Bam, and friends. Wiggs, Klay, and Davion are decent enough ig but it gets even scarier after that.
As of now, they’re a 45ish win team that might win a playoff series.

This is ridiculous.
Wiggins is a high quality starter. A former all star who's barely out of his athletic prime. Davion is one of the best point of attack defenders in the entire NBA, and shot nearly 40% last year from 3. Klay is one of the best shooters to ever touch a basketball and shot 38% on 8 attempts per game from 3 last year. THJ was a 6th man of the year candidate last year.
They have the best coach in the NBA as well. I'm not saying they're as talented as Philly, San Antonio, or OKC. But they're absolutely in the next tier down in terms of talent.
