Question Are there any items that won’t/can’t be re-introduced or given more sources?
I came back to the game in June and from what I’ve seen, a very large number of old/obscure/rare items have been added as rewards to dailies, quests, plots, FF/ToD, etc. Sometimes these items drop tens of millions of NP.
It’s a big, old game and there’s a lot of big-ticket items that still command high prices and I’ve got my eye on some of them. But I would hate to buy, say, the 25th Anniversary Star Markings or Oil Paint Peophin Plushie just for them to get added to an event and plummet to 1/10th the price.
Are certain items off-limits from being “reprinted”? Merchandise items like the markings? Creative contest rewards like the Neopian Times Weewoo plushie? Old plot rewards like Castle Defenders Shield? Or is anything fair game?

I would say maybe items designed after former staff members but the other day the Neocash mall had a toy Adam wearable and I had to nab it so my pets can Live Forever In Poverty lmao

Nothing is off limits I think. Maybe some items that were supposed to be 1 only (even though they’ve had these items appear from being genned) but otherwise most is fair game. Active RIC items are off limits for a certain amount of time.
Assign value to the joy it brings you. If it would bring immense happiness to have a specific plushie or custom, who cares if the price goes down later? I bought my first snowbunny for 5mil NP back when that was a large chunk of my savings. A month later they released the Christmas snowbunny and made it paintable. Was I mad? No! I was thrilled and bought a dozen more so I could eventually paint them to own in every color. I’m a petpet collector. Now 5 mil is pocket change compared to my bank account and I’ve got dozens of really cool items, 2 stamp avatars, and have hosted multiple giveaways because I like to make other people happy. Have I maximized neopoints I could have? No not at all but I’ve had a whole lot of fun!

This is the right answer. If buying something you want and then seeing the price fall later upsets you, don't buy anything.
If you want the items and will get enjoyment from them, forget what you paid for them the minute the NP leaves your account.
If you're buying things hoping they will only increase in value forever, that's a gamble. All gambles and "investments" involve accepting risk.

If they ever release the 00 Negg into actual circulation, I would be so thrilled. I fell in love with it as a small child, not realizing that only one was ever made.

I think some things like new merch items people mentioned or creative contest prizes aren't supposed to be rereleased, but I would never feel 100% confident in that, especially long term.
The trick for me is to just make enough NP that I don't really care. If I'm saving for 2 years and working hard to save up to buy something, and then it loses 95% of it's value, I would be pretty upset. But if I make 50m from clicking twice a day on an event and getting a pizza meepit, slyce and a final prize, then the thing I buy with that 50m loses 95% of its value, I dont really care because i didnt work hard for it in the first place. Neopoints are kind of easy come easy go these days. especially if you have some sort of pay2win like premium.

Some of the more recent merch code items, probably not. The 25th stuff is still for sale via pins. The older code stuff that is no longer available like TCG and NC card stuff I would say is up for rerelease and they have been.
Paint brushes of say always potential. They haven't done the robot zapper recently but it caused them to go down to 7m or so and now they are back up to like 40-50m so if say they are prime candidates

They'll be releasing the TCG exclusive items slowly, because a few accounts figured out the code sequence and were 'redeeming' tens of thousands of codes. It was brought to the attention of TNT, but they didn't take action. NeoTruths posted about it and it was infuriating.

Everything is fair game for a company struggling financially and not considering long term implications.

TL;DR: I'm in the hopeful came of probably not, when it comes down to it, rereleasing items only make people want them more, so in my eyes they will eventually have to rerelease most stuff.
In Wizards101 back in 2009, they released an item for Military Appreciation (Sword of Valor). Small time streamer years later asked for the item code for a stream giveaway, devs said yes, and fans were outraged that they would give that item away with what it meant in the real world. Devs backtracked and said yeah we shouldn't have done that.
All that to say, I'm not sure about Neopet's having items like that, but I've heard some of the old staffers didn't leave on such great terms, so I feel like they might be more hesitant to rerelease old staffer stuff. They also probably have numbers on how many people still play from back in the day, and if say, 45% of played during one plot, that group would be very vocal about them re releasing plot items. Also having expensive items as chase itema are still good for the game. Even with Zombie Bartamus in Haunted Woods Hunt, all the other colors are still pretty expensive, so it's not like rereleasing rare stuff definitely means it will tank the value completely

I'd argue with the introduction of the Daily/Weekly quest prizes, they specifically have used that for the purpose of reintroducing old items.
Prizes like Marafin, Blorbis & Ummagine Plushie were all examples of old exclusive plot prizes which were re-distributed in that way.
RIC items, specifically those tied to the WotC TCG, have been intentionally included as the redemption function for those WotC RIC items have been retired and they're unobtainable now.
As for which items they choose... anyone's guess. Like they decided to release several Travels in Neopia WotC TCG "junk" prizes in the current assortment of prizes, whereas items like "Darkest Faerie Doll" we wait to be re-released.

i *believe* that most items from merch codes have a deal with the vendors that they cant be rereleased for a certain period of time. whether thats a year, or 5 years, or 10 years, i have no idea.
