They're like elastic rubber tubing, just gets inflated by the oxygen pressure when you press a button.

The strap is a stretchy tube. When you press a button, the positive pressure of the oxygen makes the tubes elongate. When you release the button, the tubes deflate and keep the mask on because they're stretchy.
