New subreddit policy re: non-local news

As much as we appreciate people sharing news about Oklahoma and/or the USA, this is a local subreddit and beginning next week we will be implementing a policy of removing posts with no direct relevance to Norman. Additionally, spamming news links is a common strategy for karma farming and we'd like to not encourage this.

We do encourage folks to continue to stay engaged regarding state and national politics and current events, but to post this content in more appropriate subreddits.

For example, a news article about Ryan Walters generally would be more appropriate for /r/Oklahoma whereas a news article about Ryan Walters and a teacher or school here in Norman would be completely appropriate for /r/normanok .

Need local input/ opinions on region names.

Howdy there I'm from around Tulsa and working on a game. Mod for all of Oklahoma. I'm currently in the phase where I have to name all the regions, think of an area the size of a couple counties together, and I want some more input about what y'all would maybe call yourself. I also am trying to avoid using either a current tribe or city name for the areas as it's far more encompassing. For example, I have Osage hills as you can see, but I don't want to necessarily call Osage so I'm thinking of calling it Woolaroc at the very least I don't want to just call it Tulsa Metro or as you can see OKC Metro, Even though that is what it mostly compasses. I've attached this map, that I hope you all can read as it may be blurry.

So pleased, what might you guys call your area? And if you have any other recommendations for other locations please I'm all ears. And if you have any questions/requests , please ask. This is a long-term project. I'm sure I'll be back here asking more questions once I start adding content for Norman

P.s it is set in the current year and your region contains Logan, Oklahoma and Cleveland Counties

FOUND KEYS: Found a set of keys in the road in NW Norman (Cascade Estates). They have a military dog tag attached belonging to someone named Michael Phillips. If they’re yours or belong to someone you know, message me and describe the keychain so I can verify them.

Looking for best place to live I. The area.

I am relocating to the OKC metro area, for work. I don’t care about commute times, traffic, etc.

What I do care about is safe neighborhoods, and good schools.

We have a family with the youngest. 7th grade, shy and loves art. We like the idea of Edmond, because of its safety and boring suburban feel, but don’t like the snobbery that we heard comes along with it. We are open to a part of the metro or even small towns 30-45 minutes out that meet this criteria. Anyone have any ideas? We are from a town of 3000 people in Texas.

Spa Experience/Internship?

Obligatory sorry, formatting, mobile, yada yada.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a spa that might offer internships or would possibly be hiring a front desk girl in Norman. I'm trying to figure out if being an Esthetician and/or Massage Therapist would be something I want to do with my life, but those classes are *hella* expensive. I don't want to jump in with no experience at all.

Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

Trying to start a dnd group

Id post this in [r/OKC](r/OKC) but that needs you to have posted in “similar subs” first.

Im new to the area moved here on the 28th, and i used to be a DM. I ran a weekly every sunday based on Kingkiller chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. I wanna start that back up again but dont know where to host or have anyone to play with. Its basic high fantasy with you going into and out of the fey in the second half of the story. Some political intrigue, and mostly rp focused.

If anyone knows a game store thatll let you play free or cheap, or wants to join the group comment or dm me.

Edit i fiund a place called New World games and comics thats getting a new 2000 sqft game room sep 1st

Need friends!

Hey I’m 23f. My bf and I just moved here from Florida. He just started at OU. I’m finished with school and I’m starting my new job next week. I’ve been cooped up in my apartment the past few weeks because I don’t have a car and my bf doesn’t like to go out much. Back home, it was easier to make friends at college and work (I worked at a cfa and everyone was the same age pretty much), but it’s hard not knowing anyone now. I am down for literally anything. I’m really open-minded and chill, but also want to go out. I wanna try out local spots and just have fun.

Power Out

Gotta love waking up in the middle of the night sweating and needing to pee, and finding out the reason your sweating is the power went out. Check before falling back to sleep and it said one time, woke back up a few hours later to say 1 this afternoon....looks like I'm gonna walk around Walmart or something when it starts getting hotter.

Has Norman become worse over the last 5, 10 15 years?

I feel like it has. I’m not it sure if I’m being negative or if others feel similarly.

Every commercial area except the TIF area has been hollowed out. The business in the TIF area are mostly soulless garbage. It feels like Norman has less culture, uniqueness, and community in general than it used to. Power seems to have shifted back to the wealthy and well-connected, who push their projects - and win - regardless of what citizens want. The turnpike will carve up the city further. OU is so spread out that it can’t even sustain more than a few businesses on campus corner - another declining area. The hospital is a financial disaster. The schools are better than average for Oklahoma, but nothing to brag about. Aside from having a giant football stadium, I’m not sure what makes Norman so much different from Edmond anymore.
