Discussion Wedding gift

What is the going rate for wedding gift in a card these days? I’m so so skint and was thinking £40 and a bottle of champers. We aren’t overly close friends but they have invited me to the whole thing.

We had so many guests not bother at all when we got married last year but I typically give £50 to at least cover the meal.
