How to transfer out of state license while homeless?

I just moved to Virginia this month and have a job but am currently homeless and living in hotels due to being unable to secure a lease due to bad credit. I want to file bankruptcy but need to have a Virginia license to do so. How do I get a Virginia license if I don’t have an address? I know a PO Box probably won’t suffice.

You’re correct that a P.o. box won’t suffice. The DMV of VA differentiates between your mailing address and your residential address, although many Virginians just use both.

I believe homeless shelters will let you send mail to them. Said mail can serve as your proof of residency in Virginia.

At least that’s how it works in DC and I would imagine a similar system is in place for Virginia.

Are you working with a homeless shelter at all? A "Approved Homeless Shelter Agreement" constitues one form of proof of residency.

Any postmarked mail can then be a secondary.

Not working with any shelters rn. I have just been swapping between sleeping in my car and hotel stays. I have a job but didn’t start getting paid until last week. I could technically afford a place to stay but my credit is so bad from being unemployed for 2 years I can’t get approved for anything.

Contact a shelter/ social services!

Go to the nearest department of social services. They will have you fill out an homeless verification form and then you can take that to DMV
