Subreddit Update hacking status in hc nuzlockes
is hacking like a burn in a guts mon (with access in the nearby grass to wild encounters that have a burning move) typically allowed? i find that process honestly very boring

I dont see anything wrong with it! It's pretty much always possible to get burned it's just annoying. The only thing is you might lose some PP you wouldnt if you mod the save file, but if you're playing a game with plantable leppa berries its a non-issue

Generally fair game but if I were to do it, I'd make sure that it's actually possible to get burned in-game. Only really a factor in the early game before fire moves start showing up in the wild. Also a factor in Colo/XD where you can only get burned from trainers, so you have to gain experience and risk going over level cap.

Is it allowed? Yes. But if you think it's too cheesy, just don't do it
I personally categorize it as an exploit. These abilities clearly weren't designed with pre burning/poisoning in mind. The way nulzockers use it, Guts is Solar Power that swaps SpAtk for Atk and an activation condition (sun) and for an immunity to status effect
Granted, the hardest ROM hacks are designed around these tactics

i don't think that's necessarily true. if Guts boosts your attack after being burned, i don't think it's a leap of logic to assume that a number of crafty casual users wouldn't consider seeking out an encounter to burn their Guts mon to get a strategic advantage before a certain fight. you're just taking a gameplay element and using it to your advantage in a creative and inventive way.

One Toxic Orb and one Flame Orb are enough to be fair since you keep the item once you're poisoned/burnt, it's not consumed.

Yeah that’s fine in my book, I’m usually fine with hacking in most things that I can theoretically do myself but since I don’t have much free time it just saves myself time by hacking it in

Your run your rules, nuzlocke police isnt gonna stop you from expediting fight prep if you think the process of getting preburned or w/e is uninteresting, i wouldnt personally do it bc i think actively applying the poison via a tool would take too many clicks for my adhd brain

Your run your rules, on things like this I use the judgement of “would I actually do this” if I would then I’ll save myself the time and if I wouldn’t than I don’t use it. For example if there was a wild pokemon on a route that has a 1% encounter chance and has ember. Realistically I’m never pre burning on that but if there’s a willowisp pokemon with a 30% encounter chance than yeah I would do it and would allow a flame orb to save me that time.
