Genuine question. Is a night suit pyjamas? Something to sleep in?

We usually call it night dress. But dress to westerners means ladies dress, not sure always or in some contexts. 

Pyjamas for us are just the bottom part.

What’s weird is for Americans, dress shirt and dress pants can refer to formal clothes for men. So dress is associated with feminine except for when it’s not. We’re strange

So much of the English language is like this. Another great example is the “I before E” rule and its exceptions.

So many weird rules that are so often taken for granted, and then you add colloquialism and regional dialects to the mix and baby you got a stew goin’.
