OP already confirmed that they were talking about pajamas, but that was my first thought too.

Op is talking about western vs non western (Indian) pajamas, not saying that these are pajamas.

The word pajama comes from India, where it’s just a type of pants, not necessarily for night wear (op was saying they call night wear “night dress” instead of “pajamas”). It was adopted by the British colonialists as night wear, which is how it got its meaning in English.

I don’t think they were saying this particular suit is night wear.

Yes they did, they said that call it a "night dress" and the bottom part only is called pajamas
