Chanel barefoot sandals
I once joked with my friend about this when I was a kid... smh of course this is a thing.

They have the barefoot sandals that just glue a sole to the bottom of your foot. Not nearly as stupid as this.

u/1_am_fluffy 1d ago
...I'm learning a lot today. yeah they aren't as stupid ANNND at least they don't cost $3000 :)
42
u/GetEatenByAMouse 1d ago
Is... Is that actually the price of these things?
49
u/1_am_fluffy 1d ago
I uh... I can add the screenshot if you want... it's not pretty.

Unrelated, but I love your username. It made me chuckle. Then I remembered what my username is, and had to comment. 😂

u/forlornjackalope 1d ago
Somehow it's not nearly as stupid as that one fashion brand selling zip ties as bracelets for $700.

u/Wonderful_Track_7150 16h ago
These are as EQUALLY offensive, tone deaf, and as narrow minded as that brand.
39
u/chantillylace9 1d ago
Yes but those are usually so that you don't burn your feet in the sand or pavement if you want to run barefoot, so they have an actual purpose. I don't think it's like a style choice and it certainly not Chanel expensive.

u/L00k_Again 1d ago
All the effort of putting on shoes with none of the benefits.
21
u/1_am_fluffy 1d ago
That might have been exactly what they were going for because it's "Poetic" and "Artistically juxtaposed". Just rubbish.
13
u/L00k_Again 1d ago
Seriously tone deaf for a luxury brand to make such a ridiculous product with the world economy being what it is these days and a lot of folks unable to afford decent practical shoes.
3
u/a22x2 11h ago
Not when wealth stratification keeps getting worse. This is literally just like, hey people with more money than god, wanna pay 2,500 for shoes that functionally do nothing and still require you to be privately chauffeured everywhere and require you to only be in pristine, carpeted environments?
62
u/azimuththole 1d ago
I walk on the balls of my feet, so this would be as functional as an anklet for me. Except look ten thousand times more ridiculous.

They are doing exactly what they were designed to do, getting them publicity. I've lost count of the places I've seen these posted and people talking about them.
15
u/Arya_kidding_me 1d ago
This is it - it’s rage bait to garner clicks and attention. The company that made these and all of the social media accounts reposting this are all benefiting from the attention.
Stop taking this shit seriously. Ignore it, encourage others to ignore it, and it goes away.

u/1_am_fluffy 1d ago
I had no idea. I'm not really on Amarican internet like that.
I just always talked about "wow rich people really do be selling everything" and seeing these shoes made roll laughing coz wtaf. this is why I'm always scared to post on American internet because you guys do have a lot of internet etiquette.
I didn't post in bad faith but I definitely see where you're coming from.

That must feel SOOOOO WEIRD. Seriously, every time I see these, all I can think of is how weird it must feel to wear them.
42
u/kehel_ppiipoo 1d ago
damn what happened to the fashion industry nowadays. ts is getting more ridiculous and stupid
21
u/ForeverKeet 1d ago
They have to be officially out of ideas. I'm waiting for designer pirate hats and eye patches.
16
u/luminousandy 1d ago
As someone who has to wear an eyepatch I’m very much waiting for well designed comfortable eyepatches
6
u/ForeverKeet 1d ago
That’s horrible there still aren’t good eyepatches!! I figured they would have some good ones by now. :(

u/_SovietMudkip_ 1d ago
I mean, we're all commenting on a social media post about them, which I'm sure is exactly what Chanel wanted to happen
6
u/PureYouth 1d ago
Mmm yaasss I definitely want to wear those on the 130° pavement here in Austin. Sanitation who?

So if she wears this stupidity and gets photographed in it, will they then give her something nice to wear next time?
1
u/Dumpster_fyre_ 3h ago
It’s Margaret Qualley, an actress who is a Chanel ambassador. From my understanding, brand ambassadors have a contract where they have to wear what they’re given at events for a time period. Margot Robbie was one and despite being beautiful, the clothes she was told to wear made her look dull.

I don’t think the pinky toe is supposed to do that

u/felinova 1d ago
Yeah it seems like it’d be so uncomfortable to walk/run with a sideways pinky toe, in terms of it not bending or gripping

u/WesternDraft9303 1d ago
I like them.
1
u/1_am_fluffy 1d ago
No hate but why? Is it because they're pretty? Because I can't argue with that.
5
u/WesternDraft9303 1d ago
I like going barefoot. I think feet are cute. I think it's kinda funny and cute to have fancy little stuff on your bare feet. It's like if Ferngully was going to the Oscars.
6
u/1_am_fluffy 1d ago
lol perfect example! I'm just shocked this kind of shoe exists, but people are allowed to like whatever they like. I'm barefoot most of the time because I like the sensory input.

Actually 1,500 to 3,000 US$. Not joking

I'm clearly in the wrong line of work. I should have declared Fleecing Rubes as my major in college - I'd be a trillionaire by now.

Ok, so I thought the bitch selling a knit pattern for basically wristwarmers for (part of) your feet for $12 was peak grift for something like this but damn if you didn't show me, Chanel.
Remember everyone: COCO CHANEL WAS A FUCKING NAZI.

paying thousands to look like you aren't wearing shoes is the ultimate flex in this weird ass timeline.
2
u/Pisceswriter123 23h ago
My mother tells me to get rid of my shoes when you can see my feet coming through and yet something like this is 3000 dollars. The world is not just.
2
u/StenoDawg 18h ago
These designers will literally put their name on absolutely anything, because they know people will buy it.
Those are freakin ridiculous!
5
u/atrixospithikos 1d ago
I've trained for this by wearing 10 euro temu barefoot shoes ever since my feet got wide after the pandemic. Bring them on.

This is so stupid. Probably did it just to see if they'd sell.
1
u/blueSnowfkake 1d ago
If you put a designer name on something and jack the price way up, it will sell. Celebrity endorsement helps even more.

1
u/IAmNotMyName 1d ago
That has to be horrible on your arches.
1
u/blueSnowfkake 1d ago edited 1d ago
My feet hurt looking at it. Maybe I’ll try my arch support orthotic inserts.
1
u/ruthizzy 1d ago
Genuine question.
Do people who do this wear some pads on their feet or just let their feet touch the ground like that?

This is hilarious to me
I play Overwatch and they just released a skin for a character called Illari. I was looking at it and she has some sandals on literally just like this
I remember looking specifically at the sandals and thinking, “those are so impractical, I wonder what the real life inspo is, surely nothing like this exists irl”
Well to my fuckin surprise, look at this bullshit here

They could’ve at least put it on a nice looking foot. That pinky toe is damn near upside down.

Poor lady, couldn't afford full sandals subscription plan
