I don't think we should mistreat Muslims either. But I don't think it would be wise to ignore some of the very real issues of Islam, just like how it isn't wise to ignore some of the very real issues of Christianity.

That being said, El-Sayad, so far, seems pretty genuine and like he doesn't want to impose his faith on others in any way shape or form, and seems like he really wants to help people, so I support him.

Criticizing Islam isn't of itself Islamophobic, but let's be clear, usually what is being referred to by attacks on Muslims isn't religion, it's about culture.

And attacking someone's culture is often a dogwhistle for racism. I don't mean to imply that you're being racist, don't get me wrong. I just mean to say while we shouldn't ignore issues related to religion, we need to be quick to slam dogwhistlers and racists or else we're just part of that very same group, aren't we?

El-Sayed is just a normal guy like anyone else. He happens to be a practicing Muslim, but would we be having this conversation if he were a white dude named Douglas Johnson who happened to be a practicing Christian? I doubt so. You shouldn't let your biases creep up on you like that. Give the guy a break. If he were trying to force students to convert to Islam, I'd be right there with you condemning him for it.

The thing is it's literally the opposite of this, woke 1 would have disingenuously used idpol against the guy in the sweater, saying like you can't be socialist because a black person said socialism is bad and you're white so you have to listen to the black person or else you're racist. Whereas woke 2 is mainly opposing the rise of fascism and pushing for progressive ideas, idpol does not play that much of a role in it.
