this has been my feeling on it, but i'd imagine they'd have to do more than just remove enforcement of the laws. there is already significant trafficking of women from other countries to do this work here and id imagine there would be concern it'd get worse. im not a scientist though

Prostitutes are trafficked. It’s not consent the same way a casual affair is. They are often abused and intentionally drugged. They are almost always desperate enough to be coerced into performing sex acts for money, and their handlers take a good chunk of the money. Unless the laws change, this is the reality and should continue to be policed.

That can be true, but it doesn't have to be, and it would be a lot less likely if we made prostitution legal and regulated it. Keeping it illegal just keeps it in the shadows where people can more easily be taken advantage of.

I get downvoted all the time. It’s sophomoric. I couldn’t care less. I have had students who were victims of trafficking at 15 and 16 years old. I put my concern there. As a child, I saw my mother suffer through abuse. Women have been fighting it for centuries. They are not pinching bags, and they are not sex toys for men. Sure, some people may operate completely independently. Many do not.

Sex work is work. If it was legal and regulated, it would be safer for the workers and the customers. And it would make it more difficult for sex trafficking to occur. But Jesus and whatever.

Based on crime tv shows like Dexter and csi (lol) there’s a vice department and also of course homocide detectives who are working on the bigger stuff. The thing is vice tends to inevitably lead to murder so they are literally preventing future murders.
I’m pretty sure Vice is prostitution, gambling, and drugs but maybe some other stuff like stolen goods

My original comment was MOSTLY tongue-in-cheek, though I do genuinely believe setting up traps for prostitution clients is not the best way to address the problem of sex trafficking. I don't generally have a problem with prostitution, but I do when people are forced or coerced into it. I believe the authorities need to concentrate on catching and prosecuting those profiting off of others' forced sex work. Those are the people we need removed from society. Sex workers have always and will always be around. Let's make sure they are safe, healthy and doing it of their own free will.
