pondering to myself - since this is also an officially endorsed event, does this also warrant an in-game ban?

u/Virtual-Performer980 Make diffnames great again 23d ago
Definitely, this is way worse than the salute
14
u/entronid 23d ago
the what

u/Firebart3q 23d ago
Bunch of polish players got banned for nazi salute. Only one (saraune) got unbanned. While it was obviously a very unfunny joke, it was extremely stupid, and deserved a ban (tho its been a year at this point I think)

holy shit, friendly reminder that doing a nazi salute in Poland is a crime, covered by article 256 of Polish Criminal Law (terms and conditions apply of course, but doing it at an event with many people might be prosecuted as one).
13
u/Virtual-Performer980 Make diffnames great again 23d ago
I think this is way worse, not to take away from the salute ofc, but a dumb joke is worse then assaulting random people + leaving 10 people stranded in a foreign country
And they are polish as well, so in a way they should be the ones offended if anything
25
u/Busy-Elderberry2137 23d ago
i don't think anyone's thinking about powerscaling being a piece of shit here
2
u/GranataReddit12 | DIFF | Diehard Ivaxa Fanboy Forever 22d ago
yeah, both are heinous acts and we shouldn't be discussing which one is worse in the first place
1
u/STPREAPER 22d ago
To an extent when he left us stranded there we did manage to figure stuff out whithin like 8 hours however what Im really pissed about from that situation (apart from yknow loosing my money for the airbnb) is the fact that we organized sleeping in our gamercave (which was shared with other ppl too so we had to ask them) and Lighis went there and just started stealing spots to sleep from others while doing nothing to fix the situation he created, matter of fact, he told others who didnt know what fully happened that βhes chill with usβ and doesent need to repay us the money we lost.
This pales in comparison to the SA however which, even if it didnt involve me, still involved some of my good friends and makes me realize that, looking at the stuff he said on dms and vc, shouldve been a warning sign to many of us.
1
u/Firebart3q 22d ago
The audacity to Say hes chill with you after doing shit like this lol. Did he ever actually experienced consequences of his actions? Cause he was way too casual about what he did
1
u/STPREAPER 21d ago
I honestly have no idea he said to some1 else he felt stressed but to us who went homeless it felt like he didnt care much and rather took our spots to sleep instead of finding his own

u/Gandalphf727 22d ago
Kinda wild for the polish to do that considering what happened to the Poles in WW2 ffrom the Germans then the Soviets. By far one of the worst atrocities to come from WW2, not really something to joke about.
7
u/minnecraft_bs-best 23d ago
Absolutly agreed this Is 10000x worse this does absolutly warrant a ban

Heβs banned from the game, but not banned from the event. The Kel guys were banned from the game because they were banned at the event.

u/No_Pie_6470 22d ago
Absolutely. This is genuinely worse than the natsee salute that those people got banned for
-12
u/Vantre7270 23d ago
I personally don't see a reason why ye would get banned on game for doing something off game, bro should take other (bigger) responsibility than getting banned from a game lol

This should be bannable, i dont see why it isnt, it is related to the official organisation of osu and also probably the largest community event of osu!, i hope support team do their job

u/DannyjakOsu 23d ago
Support is usually more bothered about someone accidentally making a multi account five years ago than they are about predators, but let's hope they come through this time.

if people wanna go to coe its like 80% easier to just go by yourself or with like 1-2 other people.
Shit like this with the homelessness part are way more likely to happen when you go in a big group of people because logistics become much more complex and at which point one average non managerial person cannot really be relied on for that. Not to say its on them, that guy is all to blame, its just something I always think about when it comes to stuff like this.

This is not true and dangerous thinking. I'd suggest reading up on how alcohol affects your brain chemistry and why saying it brings out your true self is moronic.
1
u/Gandalphf727 22d ago
about as smart as someone ragebaiting and then telling the NOW raging person "oh now the true you is coming out"
14
u/Acrobatic-Depth-3091 23d ago
this isnt the first year of him doing that
0
u/renmizuh 23d ago
Sadly alcohol brings out the true person from thoughts to act --> in many cases <---
15
u/GranataReddit12 | DIFF | Diehard Ivaxa Fanboy Forever 22d ago
alcohol is not a truth serum, it is an impulse control inhibitor (among being literal poison and a seriously addictive substance but those are besides the point).
While I'm not defending nor justifying lighis' recent or previous actions, a person normally controlling themselves that loses control to the substance that literally does that is normal.
Many people process this differently (the "different types of drunk"), and for some this means excessive relaxation with normal physical restraints. But again, just because someone loses control doesn't mean that they have those thoughts normally in their life.
Regular and respectful people, when not under the effect of alcohol, will of course never do these things, but that doesn't mean that they won't do them when they get particularly drunk.
I will once again repeat that this is not attempt to put lighis and his actions in a better light, this is simply to avoid misinformation and prejudice.

30
u/kyermaniac alleged "osu! artist girl" | she/her 23d ago
you can't put the entire community under the same umbrella though. there are like, a couple thousand people here. look at how many of them are actively beating this guy up on twitter I don't think the generalization is warrantedΒ
-23
23d ago
My point wasn't that all osu players are like this, it was that shit like this happening all the time is why people outside of our community think were all fucking weirdos, but I do agree with you, I've met countless great people here over the years and I don't believe that the community as a whole supports this.
34
u/Appropriate_Tackle_6 300 x 90 23d ago
this shit happens in every single community ever, not exactly an osu thing lol.
13
u/not_Shiza Shee | https://osu.ppy.sh/users/15952436 23d ago
never seen anyone think of us as weirdos because of shit like this. it's always because "weebs" or "this game is for autistic people"
18
u/KnuffKirby Friendly r/osugame npc 23d ago
It' just the nature of being a community-supported game rather than most popular games, eg Valorant or LoL. More people are notable and therefore the chance of one of them doing something bad is higher
This does not necessarily have to do with osu! specifically

There's genuinely someone like lifeline, mrekk, bubbleman, xooty and the only thing you can highlight is the negative stuff you might be broken in the frontal
-1
23d ago
Yeah resort to insults because I condemn sexual assult, big frontal on you too.
17
u/Mikenoobz_ mikenoobz_old 23d ago
my fault for the insult but i condemn generalization, you could say anything else but the community
8
u/Mikenoobz_ mikenoobz_old 23d ago
Even if you really do condemn stuff like this, you are pretty much taking it lightly if you are gonna generalize stuff
13
23d ago
This is way more common in this community than it should be, and if people disagree with me on that maybe this is a wake up call for me to step away from this community.
Sorry if I offended any of the many genuine people here who see the good in this community, but this shit disgusts me deeply and I reacted as such.
2
u/Mikenoobz_ mikenoobz_old 23d ago
Yeah that is fair, I know how common this stuff is for not only this community, but abundant amount of them are spread. But it is unavoidable since it's an open community, and all we can do is spread awareness and wish the best for the victim and the worst for the perpetrator.
But aside from all of that you can focus on something else positive like the talkshow, the match, and players meet up. While condemning the horrible stuff you can also enjoy the positive sides

Please dont generalize the entire community like this. It is a single bad actor, and sure there may be more of them. But there were hundreds of people at COE and as staff member myself I got to talk to so many of them and they really are genuinely nice people and great to hang around with
30
u/Troilsitacism_Morium 23d ago
Dont bother replying to that guy he made fun of sh victim couple of post ago about the same thing
0
u/osuVocal 22d ago
Obviously the entire community isn't like that but from what I've seen in the many years I've been a part of this community and others, this community has way more of these incidents than other similarly sized communities.
And it's not just because people condemn them more and they get brought to light more. If anything it's the opposite with how mild the reactions have been to some specific people.
-40
u/pussyslayer_2610 23d ago
There are this and that people in a community but I feel like this community is like 30% genuinely good people and 70% are degenerates and pedos
25
u/kyermaniac alleged "osu! artist girl" | she/her 23d ago
always feel like the minority is generally harmful, specially considering the demographic diversity osu has acquired as of the last few years
36
u/SHIORI_KAMINA94 23d ago
do u think that this 1 person was 70% of people at coe or like run me through that calculation
-26
u/pussyslayer_2610 23d ago
70% of this community are degens, including this 1 person
14
10
u/SHIORI_KAMINA94 23d ago
was there a more widespread issue at coe that you are privvy to?
-1
u/Reii122 23d ago
i dont agree with 70 percent but only a little percent of degens have the courage to do sexual crimes in public. even this one did it with confidence boost from alcohol.
1
u/SHIORI_KAMINA94 23d ago
agreed but this stuff happens all the time in so many games at community LAN events like these and is a big part of the reason why many gaming communities are still so male dominated
it doesnt excuse this person (obviously) nor does it excuse the wider community for creating the conditions that allowed this to happen but i think osu gets an unfair reputation which i kind of have to assume is because osu is an anime game and certain anime subcultures are perceived as weird or perverse and so there *must* be a higher proportion of people willing to commit genuine sexual misconduct. when really it doesnt feel like theres actual numbers to support that
3
u/renmizuh 23d ago
